Yes in a few years you would be able to generate a complete avatar of someone, but it isn't them, and i think it will mess with you mentally.
What is microsoft doing?
Look at midjourney 5's absolute perfection as an example.
I think one of that most interesting things that can come of bots like GPT-X is that it can make new connections, unravel "stuff", do extremely intricate deductive reasoning.
Be the data driven arbiter of the the truth for everyone, not just the tiny established classes or cultural hegemonies.
The ideological and cultural noise increasingly smokescreen any realpolitical, material or resource-oriented analysis of actual economic power structures in the world in the last years, AI could be a godsend (or the opposite unfortunately).
I remember reading a sci-fi years ago about the stuff an AI concluded when asked philosophical questions that were so bizarre and frightening that people shut it down, and i'm sure we're in the same territory with political and scientific analysis.
It's either dangerous to the orders of the world, or not that interesting and borg like on a philosophical level.
You might as well browse dribble if you want newer content-less splash-pages.
Because if feel this is pretty much already out of date. 4 does this _a lot_ less!
And 5, 6 or whatever will probably be better, so i don't even really get the point here.
Also i definitely don't believe in any benevolence of the elite, UBI or other romantic ideas that seems to ignore the rising Gini Coefficients and the toil 95+% of the world engages in daily. Tech workers were lucky mercenaries to the elite for a short amount of time blinded by ideologies manufactured to keep them from asking questions.
The startup i'm involved in, and my side projects are all pretty easily done by AI's in few years, and i seriously doubt most people here are doing anything that won't be easily replaced sooner than we think.
It seems my friends doing carpenting, nursing, therapy or hell even theater are all going to be better off soon - it's a total inversion of the worth of labour.
Is it random assignment?
Add cutting edge voice synthesis and maybe a realistic video stream in a few years and we're there.
Japan already has problems with the concept of "2d Waifus" and lack of intimacy between the younger generation.
Maybe the downfall will not just be climate catastrophe but hyper isolated people living alone with their ultra realistic bot friends and family without any desire to experience the ups and downs of actual social experience.
Extrapolate a bit and you wont know what's real outside of direct experience. Things are getting crazy!
That + a small bit of optimisation and everyone with a newer Mac / iPhone will be able to run something akin to chatGPT locally!
Isn't this a pretty crazy development - just weeks ago people said this would be impossible.
From this thread the 13b model runs just as fast as chatGPT on a M2 Macbook Air, and it's not even using the Neural Engine yet so will become significantly faster once that is utilised - wow!
Way to much whitespace, the bg texture all over the place only ads non sensical visual noise, the green base colour is off compared to the old more dull blue reflecting a "serious" business.
This new retro 2001'ish texturing aesthetic is way too special for a money transferring service, including the "music poster font". And i like that dot-com aesthetic, but it can't just be pasted on-top of a modern layout. It needs to be compact and subdued by a tight grid.
The old app looked clean and worked great, and was honestly one of the reasons i choose this service for several business.
This design makes me want to leave and lots of people i know would think 'what??' if i recommended a page looking this for anything serious.
Isn't this a very important part of the context? And shouldn't we be sceptical when it comes sources directly from the state or industrial complexes?
We live in a realpolitical but PR narrated world.
Realpolitics or material analysis - "follow the money" is the only way to understand the networks of power but that's not allowed because a tiny class of people want to stay in the shadows for good reason.
Culture wars are very convenient, and yes very annoying.
A newer very interesting book on the subject going back even further: [The Power of Ritual in Prehistory Secret Societies and Origins of Social Complexity](https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/power-of-ritual-in-preh...)
I find it weird that - especially americans - still don't think in terms of groups, but see the individual as the driver of history - a historiographical school that has been outdated for 70 years now.
Just because absolutely idiotic theories have conveniently been highlighted like Q or Flat Earth we shouldn't equate it to the last sad remnants of what would have been standard research journalism just 20 years ago.
People are turning to cartoonish conspiracies because "Journalism" has either died or been bought. It's a dystopian media landscape we live in and the power brokers benefit from both the vacuum and the circus that has come in its place.
Seems incredibly simple no?
I sometimes think about the untapped potentials of interface design or code editors in a zoomable mode like this where files, text, folders or whatever is laid out on a huge map.
This seems to mirror the way we naturally understand and traverse space. Ah "this text file is this big", "this file is to the right of this file", this project has this tree structure, has these relations to other files, this is the lifecycle of this application, this variable jumps from this to this file etc.
I feel like visualisation in 2d and 3d space in general is has not been explored enough.
Most smaller players are getting eaten or drowned, with the way Google Ads has implemented their changes. It was not like this 3 or or even 10 years ago, especially in the tech sphere.
So yes the state of Google could be a black mirror to the rising Gini Coefficients, HFT, armies of lawyers and private wealth management that create systems so complex that no - even upper middleclass person - will be able to enter or stay in the market.
AI is probably going to make this exponential. The ones with the money will be able to hire the tech and wealth expertise to grow while the barrier to entry just keeps rising.
Or is there a less dark outlook for the smaller or just midsized entrepreneurial endeavours?
Google is a mainly running a scam these days with completely blackboxed systems that absolutely fleece the little guy when not doing outright criminal auction price manipulation.
I don't know why this hasn't gotten more media attention. Probably because of stockholm syndrome in the publishing sphere.
Yes they pioneered amazing things but where they earn their money now, is through a labyrinth of dark designs and obfuscated systems in the borderlands of legality.
And when that happens a version 5 or 6 will probably pretty much wipe 80%+ of the white collar workforce including your job. If V4 is just a medium leap, a V5 or 6 will easily take your job.
It's time to be a cook, a carpenter or a nurse.
Personally i have multiple startup projects i'm worried about AI will be able to do easily in 2-5 years, and i can't really think of any projects anymore where that isn't the case?
There's almost something bizarre about the bell curve where IT has been so highly paid and progressed so much that developments are now making the sector potentially eat itself in the long run.
Is this crazy thinking? I hope it is!
Cost cutting? Higher US wages? Too little technical know how?
7 pharma companies got "reprimanded" by the EU after the last 2010 flu pandemic because of astroturfing and "using a crisis to profit from vaccines" that the EU didn't need.
Personally, though double vaxxed, i'm still not convinced the vaccines were a net positive - especially for the sub 60 cohort when looking at the actual stats - the risks are higher from the myocarditis than from actual Covid, at least in the younger pop.
Then they wash themselves with philanthropy and everyone praises them. The masses are easy to steer and have no interest in the esoteric power structures or foreign worldviews of the absolute elite.
Confusing to european no matter what - here we get the image that "many working class people work multiple jobs to even pay rent so we better give them something extra because there is no safety net and no unions looking out for them".
How is the percentage ratio fair as a system, doesn't it make the product price define what the servers are getting?
First day i bought two lobster rolls from a street food vendor that was pretty expensive ($80, yup it was NY) and put 20% on top as a tip not really thinking - that's a whole lot of money for 2 seconds of service, pretty bizarre to me coming from Scandinavia.
Later that day i bought a complete meal that was very cheap from another vendor, he used a lot of time to talk to me and make the food but it was only $10, so tipping 20% gave him a pretty small amount.
If anything tipping should be relative to "time spent" for the server no?
That said better wages - besides just compensating workers fairly - would also save everyone from constant awkwardness / social posturing and general inconvencies that made service experiences a constant tiring negotiation no?
Is Midjourney heavily funded? Because if they can battle SD why aren't we seeing lots of people doing the same, even in the Open Source space?
I remember AI NPC behaviour being a discussed and promoted all the way back to the late 90's, but it's like there's been a standstill and characters still run around i zig zaggy pathway patterns, switch between pre-made states and get stuck and never really surprise you with anything really "outside the box".
So much that it's not even really a topic anymore as far as i am concerned? Maybe because of multiplayer.
I thought everything besides dall-e was sd under the hood.
