konart··on How GLM built its own inference infrastructure
If only this infrastructure could handle all the traffic. I've tried using glm via z.ai - and it's a snail kind of slow.

And at the same time you have pretty strict limits to your usage, so in many cases you can't even let it work all night, as you will reach your limit faster than that.

konart··on Show HN: Nari Qwen3-TTS and Qwen3-ASR – High accuracy, low latency and cost
All TTS generations are too fast. It's almost I'm listening to a podcast on 1.25-1.5x speed.
konart··on Logo Programming Language
Good old days in my school in Russia. Logo was the first programming language we've been taught back in the 90s.

>now it feels like Sol

It can very well be Sol, no? What stops them from using cheaper model for some requests during "rush" hours or simply use cheaper model for every Nth request.

konart··on I Want a Wife (1971) [pdf]
>I go from woman to mother. And with it comes judgement and duties, and goes freedom and care-free living.

Agree on judgement, but duties and freedom and care-free living?

Sorry, both are gone for fathers too. At least those who care (talking as a father here).

Sure, a woman has even less freedom for a few years after a child is born. And a caring partner will try to at least ease this period for a woman.

But rest of a time? It's pretty 50/50 in my experience. My wife (also a backend dev like myself) has her career and her free time, in our family we share cleaning duties and all the cooking is on me (both because I'm better at it and it's less of a burden for me).

I'd like to eliminate judgement (and event more often self-judgement) she sometime faces, but for now I have no solution to present.

Bottom line: it's a fantasy to thing that a responsible father just carries on with whatever life he had before the kid was born and just occasionally fetches one from school to have a few word on the go.

konart··on Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production?
My company (I'm not part of the team that's responsible for anything AI related) has MCP's for Jira, Confluence, Mattermost fork and a few other integrations.

I have no idea about MCP vs API question but I always assumed that the whole point of MCP was an abstration between the model and the tool\service.

As in model does not have to know about a certain API (not to mention a particular version of it) to work with a service.

konart··on GPT-6 Astra
Maybe I misundersdtand your question, but I was under the impression that we more or less know about

>why parrots are not going to parrot work to earn parrot money

and to a certain degree about communication and society.

We know and understand how different species organise their life in many various ways.

konart··on Why some US restaurants are banning tips
But you are not waiting. You are talking to your friends or family.
konart··on Why some US restaurants are banning tips
I disagree and many trivial numbers are telling the story here, but I'm not going to argue.
konart··on Why some US restaurants are banning tips
Nobody is talking about bad or slow service.

It's just there is a difference between "slow service" and, you know, taking needed time.

Sure, some times it can be slow, at any place or country. But the thing described in the parent comment is just either a hyperbolization (my bet) or some unfortunate coincidence.

konart··on Why some US restaurants are banning tips
People over the Atlantic just have a better concept of social gathering as opposed to neediness of being served and staffed with food.

People come to a place to have fun and talk for a few hours or their free time. Drinks and food coming and going is just a small nuance. 10 minutes (often way less of course) for drinks to arrive is mostly okay. Nobody is busy waiting for them.

konart··on Why aren't smart people happier? (2022)
Well. Life needs diversity.

Higher IQ may give you more freedoms but also take some away. You can see what others can not, do things others can not, but at the same time you can get depression over something that won't affect someone else.

Not to mention we need people who's okay with doing simple hard jobs just as much as we need writers, doctors etc.

A nice quote from The Big Bang Theory:

Penny: Leonard, you are so great. Why can't all guys be like you?

Leonard: Because if all guys were like me, the human race couldn't survive.

konart··on Why aren't smart people happier? (2022)
Or to put it differently: some people can easily ignore things others can not.
konart··on Go 1.27
Terminated from the outside? No. The only way is to have a communication channel or a context that can be canceled and a proper handling of these.
konart··on Go 1.27
idk, hn is the only place I every see people actually not liking go and most times those are people who's job is just far away from fields go is being use in.

This is quite a QoL issue, but is it big? Nothing changes from functional point of view.
konart··on Meta will train its AI on Newsmax, a far-right media outlet
I was under the impression that all of them try to train their models on all data they can possible ibtain.

I'd think what ever data this Newsmax has - it would be in all datasets by now or soon enough. Was I wrong?

>I don’t have kids but I imagine it would only make entrepreneurship more interesting

I do.

And while I see myself as a pretty productive person I can't really imagine how one can be an entrepreneur and a father (we are talking about small child here) at the same time, unless your woman is a happy housewife and very likely you have support from at least one of grandparents.

First 3-5 years are just to demanding even if your child is born when it's due (and not on 31st week like in my case), without any "surprises" (my daughter is allergic to beef, dairy, chicken and its eggs and you learn it hard way).

If you are even less lucky - you spend even more time with doctors and all kinds of places you didn't even know existed.

konart··on AI agent hacks gym to get its user a spot in pilates class
Someone walking in is an illegal entry to begin with.

PS: in some countries

konart··on France to ban unsolicited telemarketing calls
I stopped getting spam calls in Russia after operators started blocking unsigned (unmarked?) calls. (all outgoing call from business and sole proprietors are required to be signed since September 2025).

Not sure if this will hold for too long, because there is always a way, but still.

konart··on Squeak 6.1
And that's completely natural. Compare it with woodworking.

Yes, some people would dive deep into the craft and create works of art, exquisite furniture and tools they need to make it even better.

But those are the few. For the most of woodworkers this is just something they somehow learned to do on a level needed to be able to get a job and make living.

konart··on Software development with AI is starting to feel like cooking steak
Sorry, I don't really understand your question.
konart··on Software development with AI is starting to feel like cooking steak
No offence, but for some reason some people just can't accept a simple fact: for some people this difference is still not a difference.

I've tried good coffee. At least that's what people told ne on multiple accasions where I was taken to "the right places" in multiple countries. On two sides of the globe (Brazil and Vietnam if we are talking about producers, not to mention countries that import the beans).

Thing is: no matter where it grows, no matter how they prepare it, fermented or not, different frying, different brewing techniques - all the same to me.

I can tell the difference. Some times small, some times very huge. But still for this difference is like a cat piss from some street cat and a cat with a pedigree.

It may have the ideal temperature, ideal acid levels, zinc amounts or whatever - still tastes like cat piss. The fact that it has a pedigree does not make it better.

Tea is whole different story for me though. But I do accepts that people are fine with whatever they love in their "english breakfast tea" or a nameless teabag.

Sure, if you absolutely need the original one. Nobody is talking about illegal download of the original here.

Not to mention that you can easily find free fonts similar to the mentioned font even without this chimera.
