kolev··on Back to the basics – Persevy
Why you can't choose a username when signing up via Facebook/Google+ and why when you change your username, your profile URL does not update accordingly?!
kolev··on Amazon interviewed me about my Amazon fake reviews detection app
Don't repeat my mistake to reply to a massively-downvoted comment as people will downvote the reply as well to double-punish you.
kolev··on Amazon interviewed me about my Amazon fake reviews detection app
I got interviewed once by Amazon. Basically, they wanted me to do consulting with all the negative sides of it minus the major positive one - the pay. I had a friend who quit Amazon and he told me that backstabbing was actually encouraged there, which makes it a hostile and carcinogenic working environment.
kolev··on Fish shell 2.2
Awesome! Remove the built-in web server and count me in!
kolev··on Our Deadliest Problem? Not Terrorism
Posting content behind a paywall should be forbidden here on HN.
kolev··on Private pastebin
Expired SSL certificate.
kolev··on Slack adds emoji reactions
... Did the emoji reactions take Slack down? The whole site is down for me!

P.S. It seems that their whole website is served by Tumblr and the error is with Tumblr, actually.

Where in the world is Falcor? We keep hearing about it, we saw the presentation, but this is all we've got and it's nothing: https://github.com/michaelbpaulson/Falcor
kolev··on Sign up for a first look at GitHub Desktop
Electron (Atom) based?!
kolev··on Sublime Text packages are on GitHub
Sorry, I didn't see this earlier although I frequent the new links. I suggest posting stuff like this between 9AM and noon PST as popularity highly depends on the timing as well.
kolev··on Show HN: A simple password generator
I've always wondered if these services store the passwords...
kolev··on Project Fi Review: Cell Service from Google
... but you should be able to make outgoing calls from that number from time to time, too.
kolev··on Project Fi Review: Cell Service from Google
What is the price of the ring.to service? They did every effort to advertise pricing or if it's a free service (which I doubt).
kolev··on Google Play Music – free, ad-supported radio
I do use it, but it's not too challenging to have this natively supported.
kolev··on Google Play Music – free, ad-supported radio
I want to add Last.fm scrobbling - I don't understand why Apple, Amazon, and Google ignore this.
kolev··on Constructors in Ceylon
Ceylon is my favorite language and I can't wait for v1.2 to be out! I just wish it was catching up with JDK release a little faster and generally speed up the release cycle. Spread the word, it definitely needs more love!
kolev··on Race After Race, Teenager Crosses Finish Line, Then Collapses
I can't believe people think that the benefits of running outweigh the risks. First, the benefits of extreme running are questionable. Moderate exercise is fine (if done right), but extremes are never healthy. In this case, and, in general, fainting is not something that doesn't carry negative effects. When you accumulate so many incidents, I'm sure many millions of brain cells will die. Boxing does the same, but doctors still give clearance and that's why one should question the ethics of these doctors as nothing that has an accumulating harm should be okayed by them.
kolev··on We Tried Slack and Regretted It
People use JIRA and Confluence, because they are fully-featured, and complicated. It's easier to created a dumbed-down faster tool. Plus, they've been around for years. I'm sure one day they will rewrite them from scratch, but HipChat is not slow at all.
kolev··on We Tried Slack and Regretted It
I've always wondered why Slack gets so much love from engineers! It's noisy, it's expensive, and did I mention "noisy". It started as a copycat and didn't do much beyond that. The only thing I'm thankful to Slack about is that it's pushing HipChat to innovate. Finally we got multi-account support in there! Yes, I openly do like HipChat better - it's free, it's less noisy, it's coming from Atlassian, it integrates nicely into the Atlassian ecosystem, but there are alternatives like the open-source Rocket Chat [0] and Let's Chat [1], but Gitter is [2] is the best of those (like most of us) who use GitHub most of the day. Not sure why it doesn't get the love it deserves (but Gitter is expensive as well)!

kolev··on Show HN: Corbie – Your personal reading assistant
Agreed. $1-2/mo is about right, but for $10/mo month we get orders of magnitude more value from other similarly priced services.
kolev··on Ello's ad-free social network comes to the iPhone
Meh.
kolev··on Boosting Nginx Performance with Thread Pools
They deleted it for some reason, but here it is from Google Cache: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http:/...
kolev··on Why I Still have faith in LastPass
Most people I know use 1Password. From the comments made here, 1Password also looks to be the best of both worlds and the most popular alternative.
kolev··on Why I Still have faith in LastPass
Naive people are naive and this is a false dichotomy. Don't recidivate - there are better-reputation alternatives!
kolev··on LastPass Security Notice
How many times does LastPass need to screw up before you guys flee it? Pick your security vendors carefully!
kolev··on Show HN: PressRise – A blogging platform with community voting and aggregation
Nice and clean. I only wish it was available as FOSS as well.
kolev··on Sidechains and Lightning, the New New Bitcoin
Well, of course, the illicit usage, too, but after more and more pedophiles and marketplaces get busted, that usage will evaporate as well.
kolev··on Sidechains and Lightning, the New New Bitcoin
Those who are stuck with it still - they surely care. The rest - not really.
kolev··on Chrome for Mac now more resource efficient, lighter on battery consumption
Chrome is a giant resource hog - compared to Safari or Firefox. I switched back to Firefox Developer Edition after having Chrome use tens of gigabytes of virtual memory for just a few open tabs for a couple of hours. The new SHA1 SSL blocking signed its death sentence - the road to hell is paved with good intentions, right?
