kobrad··on Intel Starts Publishing Open-Source Linux Driver Code for Discrete GPUs
Any number should be fine if we actually had proper standards. Why are graphics so special that we can't have x86 of graphics? I think all of this is a problem of this klepto capitalism. Also, you need 4 to have competition
kobrad··on The subscription-pocalypse
I get what you are saying, but if used everything I would like to use I'd spend maybe a quarter of my paycheck every month. On random subscription things. Everything is subscription based and feels like I have to pay separate subscriptions for every bus I take, you know
kobrad··on Flat Design vs. Traditional Design: Comparative Experimental Study (2015)
This is all in all a bad way of talking about things. Flat vs. traditional is in the title. I think this can't be taken seriously, and that you all should know better. No time to read this in full, but they start by comparing windows 8 and windows 7 - so the problem is not the functional redesign, no, the problem is that it's flat? What is this
kobrad··on Blender 2.8
How did you get to this? After using 3ds max I can't believe that they actually charge money for it, it's amazing. And the worst part is the interface.

I'm reading what you say again, like maybe I misread, but are you being serious?

kobrad··on Dear Developer, the Web Isn't About You
Excellent talk, and we need more of this. Look at downloading and image instead of installing something on a raspberry pi. Next thing I expect is needing docker to install a calculator.
kobrad··on Pictures from the Eastern Bloc in the 80s
sorry, 490 euros? what?
kobrad··on Zaha Hadid: Maker of the 21st Century
This is a bit strange. There are a lot of exceptional people who will not get anywhere because they are poor. So it's nice and all, but don't just say her exceptional wealth has nothing to do with anything.
kobrad··on Reasons to Fear Another ‘Great War’
I expect some incredibly stupid reason. Post-brexit UK tries to nuke somewhere in the EU, or the USA decides we need to get Jesus here faster, or actually anything on this spectrum of insanity.

Right now it seems like science fiction that anybody will try doing anything about the climate.

So, in reality we'll probably see a failing ecosystem and the strongest military killing the rest of us.

kobrad··on The Orange Juice Test (1985)
I think the smug tone is getting to you. Like most surefire recipes for knowing things in advance this makes no real sense. But hey, at least they can smile over their cups or whatever
kobrad··on Dell XPS 13 Kabylake Makes for a Great Linux Laptop
I bought a used acer from 2012 and the only bad thing is battery life of around three hours. Can't imagine paying for a new laptop
kobrad··on GDPR: US news sites unavailable to EU users over data protection rules
I forgot that websites can load this fast, this is incredible. Not on mobile though
kobrad··on Elon Musk reveals his productivity rules in a letter he sent to Tesla employees
Sorry, what? This is news for me, I'll go work there in that case
kobrad··on Time to rebuild the web?
Nice that this website doesn't respect opening in new tab. Is this some ironic take or what?
kobrad··on Goldman Sachs questions whether curing patients is a sustainable business model
This is a very narrow view. The usa is not the world
kobrad··on The End of Windows
It's not about needing 4k, it's about the prices. While it's normal in the usa to get a couple of these monitors for me the expense is impossible. And I really would use a 4k monitor. It's a big world, and most of it is not the usa
kobrad··on Dark Patterns, the Ratchet
To make things worse UI is still a largely unsolved matter. Imagine being in the time of tillers instead of steering wheels but somehow splice in privacy and personal data. The more I read about this the more everything feels like a bad scifi novel.
kobrad··on How Dutch Police Took Over Hansa, a Top Dark Web Market
Or you are looking at this from an american perspective? Just guessing here. Everybody else on the planet figured out that prohibition doesn't work
kobrad··on Crazy new Swedish bill makes sharing music and TV as bad a “crime” as manslaughter
Are we still saying piracy loses money for somebody? Even after the EU paper about it?

Why is it so hard to believe research?

kobrad··on Crazy new Swedish bill makes sharing music and TV as bad a “crime” as manslaughter
Not sure where you are going with this. Shorter times for financial crime? Why? And what does any of this have to do with file sharing?
kobrad··on Designing Windows 95’s User Interface
Search got the google bug, so that it will change the results in the xx milliseconds while you are pressing enter or clicking. This is the new boundary for all interfaces, and I know it's just being stupid - sometimes it really makes me angry. But snap works just fine, yeah
kobrad··on Walkable Streets Are More Economically Productive
It's nice to see her mentioned here. If you've had any architectural education you got to read Jacobs. It's also amazing that we need to rediscover her 60 years later.
kobrad··on Luna 1.0 Beta is out
This thing is a nightmare to install and uninstall. The installer is 170 megs and downloads god knows what, there is no uninstall, and when you try to do it manually you see it spawned three or four processes without letting you know. This is incredibly amazingly malware like if you ask me
