Edit: excerpt from the Devine Lu Linvega's intro:
-----
Devine Lu Linvega and his partner Rekka live on a sailboat. He makes art, music, software, and other cultural artifacts. When Photoshop’s DRM required that he maintain a connection to the internet, he wrote his own creative suite. When his MacBook died in the middle of the ocean, he switched to Linux with hardware he could service. His electricity comes from solar panels, and every joule counts — so that’s out with Chrome and Electron and in with Scheme, C, assembly, and maybe someday Forth. -----The article suggests the true benefits of DOP aren't all that great unless you understand the target architecture.
I feel like the pendulum is at its new zenith.
All part of the zeitgeist I guess.
News is fake. Science is fake. Schools are barriers. Everything is subjective, objective reality is nonexistent.

Like if I wanted to build my own tiny radio streaming client, where would I look for the streams?
I tried snooping the network tab in dev tools on Radio Garden, but couldn't see many requests that weren't either grabbing map tiles, or connecting to Radio Garden itself.
We are what we think China is.

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday strongly rebuked Facebook, saying the company’s refusal to take down altered videos of her demonstrated how the social network contributed to misinformation"
Maybe that would have some influence about how seriously they take takedown requests.

Making them breakfast, seeing them off on the bus, picking them up from school, shuttling them off to activities, helping with homework, making dinner, cleaning up, helping them when they have nightmares ... &etc.
It's healthy to think of raising children as a creative, meaningful project on its own merits.
This might be the first time I have heard a critique from that angle.
Many of my capital-skeptic friends were against the bank and insurance bailouts without meaningful consequences.
They are still pretty irked TBH.
I think of these people as 'liberal' in the 'leftist' sense of the word. Maybe you mean 'neo-liberal', as in the economic sense?
Or maybe you just have a different demographic group in mind that I am unaware of.
Regardless, I would like to learn more.
In the long run, not funding infrastructure has the same effect as killing it.
Once a sizeable populist group decides that taxes are theft, it will frame every policy decision we make, until we destroy our once-great institutions.
There was a time when the USA dreamed big, believed in itself and invested in itself. We had a growth mindset.
We have all been told to "look out for number one." They say that our government is corrupt and incompetent. They say we should drown it in a bathtub like an unwanted kitten.
Some A+ fear mongering out there in the austerity universe.
That is definitely not the norm. Most people won't be able to simply switch to the least nasty provider.
A possibly delusional Minister misleads a wife and child into moving across Canada repeatedly because "the mafia is trying to poison them".
How Very "You won't believe what happens next".
WHY is it here on Hacker News? 20 Points???
It drives engineers batty, because it's often irrational.
Just because something is irrational doesn't mean it doesn't have a huge impact on something like adoption.
If we didn't care how things looked, we might all be wearing google glass.
