knowitnone··on Nvidia CEO criticizes Anthropic boss over his statements on AI
so if they are more productive, does that not mean companies will need fewer staff? Why would they give you more pay when they can so easily replace you. Remember, you're not doing much of the work anymore so expect lower pay.

It's funny how you want minimalism yet another commenter commented about an experimental OS needing to have a modern UI to be relevant. Just can't win.

knowitnone··on NASA Is Worth Saving
that a very vague vision; a bunch of words with no actual goals.

It used to be "land on the moon" - they've done that. A space telescope - they've done that many times. What is their goal now because I don't know and most Americans don't know but NASA certainly want us to pay millions for their toys. Set a goal, ask for funding. At this point, NASA shouldn't even be ran but the government. Run a patreon and have citizens pony up the money. Those who support NASA can fund NASA.

knowitnone··on NASA Is Worth Saving
No.

What else is there for NASA to accomplish scientifically speaking? land on the next planet but for what purpose?

They've got the James Webb out there but what has that revealed for us except better quality images. Do you care if you find out certain planet has O2, C, H20? I certainly don't.

You can argue that NASA has developed some tech that is used in our everyday live but I argue we could have developed that same tech without going to space.

this is very impressive. I really like that you have a browser which is almost mandatory for a desktop OS now. You should write down your TODO list and I hope you keep working on this. I think there is room for many OSes especially ones written in Rust.
knowitnone··on Show HN: Munal OS: a graphical experimental OS with WASM sandboxing
you already provided 3 reasons: "Very cool and impressive, you probably learned a lot". Why does everything you do have to serve humanity? what have you done to serve humanity and why are your other projects not serving humanity? And who are you to push your views and dictate what others do?
knowitnone··on How Compiler Explorer Works in 2025
Why do you say that? I've bookmarked the site but I've never used it. If my code compiles, I'm good. Not many people dig into the assembly to find that extra 1% performance boost. I'm not saying this tool is not useful because it is but how often do you use it?
knowitnone··on Tesla seeks to block city of Austin from releasing records on robotaxi trial
because autonomous vehicles include the driver and the vehicle while human operated vehicles only include the vehicle where the operator is the buyer. If you caused a car crash, that's mostly a you issue (unless it's a car defect), not a vehicle issue. If the autonomous vehicle is in a crash, it's a vehicle issue as well. Simple right?
knowitnone··on Air Lab – A portable and open air quality measuring device
IMHO, since laptops and smartphones are so ubiquitous, it would have been better and cheaper to build just the sensor with bluetooth connectivity. I guess your market is different. I know my local library has something similar mounted on their walls.
knowitnone··on Precious Plastic is in trouble
your comment is highly aggressive.

"The machines are all FAR too small" They've given you the design, you can easily scale it larger.

"expensive" then move on.

"they never really even tried" they tried more than you. They built it, and release the plans. Mission accomplished. If you even bothered reading their post where they say once the project is complete, they walk away for a while.

"hipster commune" and what is wrong with that?

"deleted the original forums" perhaps there was a reason?

"it's time for them to be recycled" it's time for you to be recycled

"they'll con" thems are fighting words and you should expect a lawsuit

"That's the way of the non-profit world" I doubt you've even given but I'm sure you've taken. take your money to your grave

Medically speaking, "Geographic atrophy" is very poorly named. It is not descriptive at all.
knowitnone··on Chimps strike stones against trees as communication, study suggests
We pay people to study this? Two videos, the first shows the chimp dropping a rock and hitting the tree with feet. Second video shows chimp throwing a rock against a tree and screaming hysterically. Based on this, they claim it is communications? Sure, if doing anything is communication but that thud on the tree certainly isn't heard very far away. Their screeches were much louder and travel further. This is not science, this is a joke!

"Feels like" means it's my opinion and not a fact which I am allowed to have.

There is no logical flaw, these are factual.

You didn't add anything to the discussion either except critize me for calling the author out on their errors. What they wrote was far from correct and if I can't call it out then let's never call out fake info ever again. Why bother having a justice system?

As for who he is, I don't care. You're basically saying, if the POTUS says something completely false, you'd be OK with it because they are the president.

if it's anonymized, is it your mistake and can anyone point single you out? I've not seen anyone point out 14 year old posts but I suppose it occurs. But at what arbitrary age can we start to hold them accountable for their posts? 70? What about people who flip flop on views whenever it suits their needs?

knowitnone··on Remarks on AI from NZ
We certainly do know how bats see with their ears. It's called echo-location - very similar to sonar/radar - which we do all the time. "Sheepdogs can herd sheep better than any human." Running faster the humans allows them to do that. If humans ran that fast, I'm sure we could do it too. "intelligent considering how physically small their brains" there's no correllation between brain size and intelligence. "Dragonflies have been around for hundreds of millions of years and are exquisitely highly evolved to carry out their primary function of eating other bugs." That's basic evolution, what's the point? Feels like this was writeen written by AI. Should have just gotten to the point without all this exposition.
