> Is Claude Code like this too? I wonder if Pi is any better.

I'm very happy with Pi myself (running it on a small VPS so that I don't need to do sandboxing shenanigans).

knocte··on MapRoulette: the micro-tasking tool for OpenStreetMap
I agree, I looked around my area and found a task on top of a parking lot that says: "These elements have rare (<20 uses) parking=* values." What does this mean? Does it mean that the parking log is marked to have a "<20" value when the value should be a number instead of a string? Obviously I'm not going to go inside the car park and count all the park slots, there could be hundreds!
knocte··on Opengist: Open-source alternative to GitHub Gists
Very nice. Nit to author: maybe redirect opengist.io to github project or to demo.opengist.io? Right now it shows the ngnix default page.
knocte··on Suspects can refuse to provide phone passcodes to police, court rules
How are you lying to the police by unlocking a different profile of your phone? So long as the police doesn't say "oh, unlock this $specific profile of your phone please", you could have different profiles for different purposes (e.g. different set of apps installed, like one profile for work and another for personal settings).

knocte··on GTK: Introducing Graphics Offload
I doubt they have the energy to backport bleeding edge tech.
knocte··on GTK: Introducing Graphics Offload
From the article:

> What are the limitations?

> At the moment, graphics offload will only work with Wayland on Linux. There is some hope that we may be able to implement similar things on MacOS, but for now, this is Wayland-only. It also depends on the content being in dmabufs.

knocte··on FBI warns against using public USB charging ports
It's the other way around mate. So long as you use https (and have already accessed the website in the past) you're fine using free wifi hotspots.
knocte··on Missing girl found using fingerprints on ransom note
Many countries read your fingerprints when you enter the border. I wouldn't be surprised if the likelihood of showing up in databases of foreign governments is even higher than your local one.

How do you reduce the cost of zero?

Be careful with using their CI tho, even if it's good, you hit the limit quite fast (especially storage, not minutes; and they don't report properly where the storage expenditure comes, so it's very frustrating).

knocte··on Is ORM still an anti-pattern?
You say "known issue", and add a link to it, but that's not a link to a bug, it's a bug to a comment from someone that has implemented a workaround to some sort of problem. Then it's not clear if it's really a TypeORM bug or not (if it was, there would be clear aim from the maintainers to fix it).
knocte··on Former US SEC attorney: 'Get out of crypto platforms now'
Their ETC cash, yes.
knocte··on Former US SEC attorney: 'Get out of crypto platforms now'
(And what I mean with that is that bitcoin has never hard-forked to attempt a censorship attack like it happened with the ETH community. BTC has only hard-forked in emergency situations to fix bugs.)
knocte··on Former US SEC attorney: 'Get out of crypto platforms now'
If the DAO rollback had been a successful attempt at censorship (e.g. 100% collusion of miners), then there would have not been a chain-split, but there was one, and as a result of that, both ETC and ETH exist today.

Now, if you're suggesting one-off cases like this are the counter-argument for the censorship argument, I'll bring you the bad news: this has never happened on chains that are not shitcoins, e.g. bitcoin.

knocte··on Former US SEC attorney: 'Get out of crypto platforms now'
I pay for flights&hotels in travala.com using lightning. I also refill my phone credit or buy gift cards (e.g. for Uber and whatnot) on BitRefill.com. And I buy cheap stuff in Amazon thanks to Purse.io
knocte··on Former US SEC attorney: 'Get out of crypto platforms now'
First: I guess you guys are talking about mining pools, not miners.

Second: so long as there's one single mining pool that is not colluding, then any censorship attempt is going to be moot. You would need to have, not just 51% of mining-pool collusion, you need 100%!

Third: even if you had 100% collusion, this "problem" is actually being solved with technology, it's called Stratum V2 protocol. Stay tuned.

Last but not least: I'm really surprised this level of ignorance still exists in the HN community wrt crypto. I guess we are still early.

knocte··on Former US SEC attorney: 'Get out of crypto platforms now'
Completely agree with the general idea of your comment. Although there are non-custodial (decentralized/P2P) exchanges that, because they don't hold user's funds, would not fall into the category that you have described. E.g.:

* P2P exchanges: LNP2Pbot, hodlhodl, etc.

* Decentralized exchanges: FixedFloat, Uniswap, etc.

knocte··on Japan adopts plan to make maximum use of nuclear power
> Refusing new nuclear is tantamount to eliminating nuclear.

IT IS NOT. Refusing new nuclear but understanding that current nuclear plants can't be shutdown (yet) until there's more renewable replacements for energy generation is a good compromise.

knocte··on Japan adopts plan to make maximum use of nuclear power
Building new nuclear plants is pro-nuclear. I said green movement is not anti-nuclear but I didn't say it is pro-nuclear. World is not black&white.
knocte··on Japan adopts plan to make maximum use of nuclear power
I don't think the green movement is anti-nuclear, it is nuclear reluctant but given two choices, e.g. coal vs nuclear, green would always choose the lesser of two evils.

knocte··on Bitwarden design flaw: Server side iterations
If it's not opensource, you cannot know if the claim of it being end2end encrypted is actually true or not. The thirdparty can disable the encryption with the click of a button.
knocte··on Bitwarden design flaw: Server side iterations
It is not opensource, therefore you cannot self-host it, therefore you depend on a thirdparty.
