kkwok··on Vatler (YC S14) wants to be your on-demand valet
Would be interested in the math you did around this. That said, there are a few interesting things that could be added on to the service to make it more profitable--so it's not necessarily just the economics of parking.
kkwok··on Discovering private APIs with Charles.app
MITMproxy is much more flexible--but steeper learning curve. Very command line-y versus Charlesproxy. I'd use charlesproxy for casually look at apps, and MITM if you needed more advanced stuff.
kkwok··on Couple Live Map
This is a fantastic visualization. Would love to see as much as you're comfortable sharing with us!
kkwok··on Pinterest Raises $200M
They better watch out for Alibaba getting its Alibaba money ready
kkwok··on Square Finally Gives Up on Square Wallet and Bets on New Order-Ahead App
Not sure if this is why Square required you to sign, but rates for covering fraud are affected by whether you have customers sign or not for credit cards.
kkwok··on Why Chinese Is So Damn Hard (1992)
Would love any further chinese resources worth checking out!
kkwok··on Dear Github, can I go home now?
This is his point though. People use the github activity chart to inaccurately infer activity, which is dangerous as Github rises in importance.
kkwok··on Alleged Bitcoin Creator Satoshi Nakamoto Denies Bitcoin Involvement
It's very possible it is him.

That said, I don't think the cognitive dissonance is because of some crazy fantasy however. The creator of bitcoin clearly went to some great lengths to avoid people knowing his actual identity. Given this, it seems very odd for them to have used their real name in all communication.

kkwok··on What happens when placeholder text doesn’t get replaced
Having seen the software used by many newspapers I'm not surprised they don't. But this sounds like a great idea to me.
kkwok··on How Microryza Acquired the Domain Experiment.com
These are all good points I hadn't thought of. It's clear you have a lot of experience in this--what have you found to be the best structure?
kkwok··on Gmail data visualization with D3.js
This is great! Any chance, you'll be sharing the code for this? Would love to use it on my inbox.
kkwok··on “Facebook turned me down” (2009)
To be fair, we don't know what position he was interviewing for at Facebook.
kkwok··on “Facebook turned me down” (2009)
Doubt that was the reason for him. He was already very established engineering leader at yahoo.
kkwok··on How Microryza Acquired the Domain Experiment.com
Good system I've seen for domain buying is this: You set price you'll pay. Broker decides to take job. They negotiate a price that equal to or lower than your cap. They get fixed fee plus X% of difference between price paid and max price you'd be willing to pay.
kkwok··on The Kitchener Snack Bar
This sounds interesting! Excuse my lack of knowledge in case this is a silly question, but from my understanding most of the profit in being a chef comes from high margin alcohol and beverage sales. Would this make more sense for the aspiring chef than using a platform like Kitchensurfing or something else?
kkwok··on Show HN: Product Hunt – Hacker News for Products
Guessing that's in response to this thread instead?

kkwok··on Drilling surprise opens door to volcano-powered electricity
Why would converting deliquefication terminals make sense? By the time we convert them, wouldn't you expect technology transfer of fracking to have spread internationally (AND be much cheaper), making exporting less economically feasible?
kkwok··on The Next Phase of Node.js
This is pretty common, and there's certainly a wave of open source software based companies currently. Definitely a tricky thing to navigate, of course.

Typically I find it works best when the company is very clear about which areas they feel should be open source and which areas they will be monetizing. Its the ambiguity and loss of trust that creates tension.

kkwok··on Jelly's First Week: An Outside-Looking-In Data Analysis
Mitmproxy is also good. Though a hassle to set up, due to some outdated dependencies. Prime target to be packaged up in a docker file.
kkwok··on Docker: The good parts
This is likely very naive. But can you elaborate on how you use it for this?

Am just starting to explore Docker.

kkwok··on Tortured by the Japanese in WW2, a former POW met his tormentor 50 years later
Big problem during wars. Much of my grandfather's Chinese army group in WWII died outside of fighting from this.
kkwok··on Foursquare constantly tracking users' locations
Have you seen noticeable battery life improvements?
kkwok··on iBeacon Pioneers Estimote (YC S13) Raise $3.1M Seed Round
Would love to see the visualizations!
kkwok··on Django 1.6 released
As someone with no experience with this, any resources you'd recommend on how to set this up?
kkwok··on Few successful entrepreneurs blog
minor edit. Tobi is the founder of Shopify, not Spotify.
kkwok··on Top Reviewers On Amazon Get Tons Of Free Stuff
They do say if someone got it through vine.
kkwok··on A personal statistics dashboard and API
Is there a demo of it that's up for people to see?
kkwok··on A Low-Tech Mosquito Deterrent
I only know this from reading Hatchet (which is about Canada, but Alaska is basically the same)
kkwok··on I Wasn’t Prepared to Work
That's skipping the substantial part where Terman establishes Stanford's engineering department, brings in massive government funding, and encourages students to commercialize the research.
kkwok··on Mark Zuckerberg’s political group funds ads promoting Keystone and ANWR drilling
This reminds me of the South-Western pact decades ago to support western projects in exchange for their votes on civil rights. Happens all the time, but impressive that people actually caught on and linked these two.
