kkarpkkarp··on AI agents are starting to eat SaaS
honestly, if you are bootstrapping anything, you don't need saas now for the start

SaaS are swiss-army knife tools and you don't need all of this.

do you want to have a contact form on your site? Don't but the whole WP plugin for forms, ask AI for tiny, well-aligned plugin which will display form fields and process the input.

Do you need to A/B test your landing page? Just ask for another plugin which will switch page versions and track impressions.

No need for Hubspot when you have google sheets + AI-made plugin for this.

kkarpkkarp··on Vibe coding is mad depressing
I am freelancer as well and in the last month I got two new clients who asked me to fix the vibe-coded projects.

And I am now thinking to specialize in the field: they already know how f*d they are and they are going to pay a lot (or: they have no other opportunity). Something what looked like million-dollar idea created for pennies 3 months later is unbearable, already rotting pale of insanity which no junior human developer or even AI code assistant is able to extend. But they already have investors or clients who use it.

And for me, with >20 years of coding experience, this is a lot of fun cleaning it to the state when it is manageable.

kkarpkkarp··on Getting a Gemini API key is an exercise in frustration
And exactly same here. I wonder how much money they lose because of this poor process.

I am not going to use Gemini API in foreseen future as I don't want to manage those keys anymore. No matter how good their model is

kkarpkkarp··on MCP Apps: Extending servers with interactive user interfaces
> For those of you here who like this idea, what is the killer use case?

# 1

- Hey claude, recommend me next book I could read

- sure, what about '1984'? Here is a button to send it directly to your kindle, it will be $4,99.

# 2

- I am looking for the hotel for two in Viena this weekend

- here are some offers and still available (displays grid view generated by mcp ui, handled by booking.com, each item has a button to "book now" directly)

kkarpkkarp··on MCP Apps: Extending servers with interactive user interfaces
> for free like this

for free: not.

but I'm certain the race has just begun: big service providers and online retailers are currently implementing widgets enabling the purchase of their services and goods directly within the ChatGPT or Claude chat windows.

kkarpkkarp··on GitHub: Git operation failures
> If it's becoming more common, what are the reasons?

Someone answered this morning, while Cloudflare outage, it's AI vibe coding and I tend to think there is something true in this. At some point there might be some tiny grain of AI engaged which starts the avalanche ending like this.

kkarpkkarp··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
Please try this https://www.freeconvert.com/pdf-to-txt It uses the same library I use.

You will probably see only some footer/header content from your pdf.

In general, word doc has some caveats when it generates pdf. Not everything is retrieval when you try to get the pure text content.

kkarpkkarp··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
Unfrotunatelly, it happens and I am aware of this. In that case:

a) you are lucky because your CV is not scannable by AI so it's good if you want to keepyoru carieer as far as possible from AI tools ;)

b) you are unlucky: most likely the software recruiters are using to pre-screen applications (and they are using it a lot) is not seeing your CV either so you will be dropped on the first stage, :( work on this if you consider finding new job nowadays

c) if you still want to use my tool consider extracting CV's text to .txt or reformat PDF (this will help you with point b)

kkarpkkarp··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
How big of a threat is AI to your career? Upload your CV and it will be analyzed. You'll also get steps on how to reduce this risk.

https://www.isairisk.com/

Still working on this and some things will definitely change, but IMO the system prompt is already solid, so that the response isn't unnecessarily scary on one hand, but not too general on the other

I like anti-web phrase. I think it will be a next phase after all those web 2.0 and web x.0 things.

kkarpkkarp··on Ryanair may increase commission to staff identifying oversized cabin bags
For the same reason, every year there is a news Ryanair is considering standing room in their planes. This is absolutely against regulation, and they do not consider such thing, but it is good for publicity: they strive to offer the lowest prices.
kkarpkkarp··on Gemini CLI: your open-source AI agent
did you try to use the gemini api then? this what you describe is what I did, but then api returns error that I reached the limit (on the first prompt)

I dont know if the solution with connecting to payment account is valid: this is what gemini told me when I descried problem using aistudio.google.com

kkarpkkarp··on Gemini CLI: your open-source AI agent
yes, this is absolutely simple and one of the best UX I have seen /s

- suppose you already found the page where you can get the key, you copy it and at say to the Zed editor

- zed editor says on every request you reached your requests quota and it does not work (it is json directly returned from api, so this is the message from google engineers)

- after googling you are finding this message lies. it is not requests quota, you simply did not connect your account with billing account (what?)

- ok, so lets connect

- you see you have some billing account created years ago, good. lets connect

- nope, the limit of accounts connected to billing account has been reached, go away

- so maybe we can try to create a new billing account?

- you set up this, add credit card data, it says you will be redirected to new window to verify something something

- new window shows claudflare "your request has been blocked"

- despite this it looks billing account is created, you has been redirected to the billing account dashboard

-is it connected to your api account? lets check. no it is not of course

-so try to connect

-your newly created billing account is not on the list

great job, google, you will really convince me to switch from openai/claude to gemini :)

kkarpkkarp··on Buy European Made. Support European Values
Signal comes from the country where the Prism [1] is still functioning. While it has open source, NSA can request from deployers on any stage to inject surveillance functionality: request from Signal authors, from Android / Apple Store repository maintainers and probably many other actors on the deployment chain to my mobile phone.

I could install it from sources but I do not have any guarantee my message sent to my friend is not eye-picked by PRISM on his phone.

Open-source + marketing copy != final product

Just a regular reminder, guys.

kkarpkkarp··on BYD has already produced its first solid-state cells
we probably leave in different areas/countries. In mine it is normal people park anywhere even illegally (grass yards, pavements) just to park.
kkarpkkarp··on BYD has already produced its first solid-state cells
of course they will and they do. But still having your own will be luxury: no need to cruise looking for free one.

Garages are overlooked (by most of investors) real estate but rules are the same as for houses: in general prices goes up and EV-revolution will just give it a boost.

I've already bought two (they are relatively cheap), one from a guy who has over ten already in his portfolio. I am still parking on the street and renting them for passive income.

kkarpkkarp··on BYD has already produced its first solid-state cells
If you are not in US but for example Europe or other areas where most of people lives in blocks, not houses, start buying car garages. The own place to charge your car will be luxury in such areas.

kkarpkkarp··on Cognitive load is what matters
in 1955 George Miller discovered[1] human can only contain 7 bits of information at the time.

Ie. if I write 1452687 and ask you to read it only once and then close eyes and repeat it, you will be able to do this.

If I write 12573945 and ask you to do the same, you will most likely not be able to do it.

Same happens with bigger "bits" of information: you can remember 7 ideas/statements from the textbook you read, so do not trap yourself in "ah that is easy, I will continue reading without taking notes". After every 7 "things" write them down, note the page number where they are and then continue reading. Otherwise it is a waste of time.
