kitplummer··on What Is Nix?
This used to be called "quality assurance". Web and .com blew that apart. We ain't got time for that.
kitplummer··on Shirt Without Stripes
Why is this a Github repo? I can't get past the abuse of a git repository.
kitplummer··on Show HN: Clikan – a simple personal kanban board that runs in a CLI
probably me being dumb. IIRC the CLI library in play is Click, and it wasn't the most flexible things to work with - though infinitely better than parsing args manually. tis a good note though. will look into it.

They are hard-coded. I think they _could_ be made configurable, just managed as "strings" with in the code. If you're really interested please create an issue at the Github project.

That's an interesting thought. I suppose if it works from the Python REPL it'd work there. Will dig into that a bit when I can. Thanks for the feedback!

Ah. Good idea.
kitplummer··on Which companies are using Erlang, and why?
For sure, serial data is a factor. I need to dig into the support of GPIO and other serial interfaces (e.g. USB) - but that's a great point. The image distro model is really cool, and need to evaluate that further as well.
kitplummer··on Which companies are using Erlang, and why?
Yep, know Nerves. Like the toolset and the model. Really asking about the underlying Erlang/Elixir that Nerves provides. The delivery flow (think image to SD card) fits the more tradition embedded/realtime model - versus OS, and installing app.
kitplummer··on Which companies are using Erlang, and why?
Yep, modern embedded (e.g. rPi and other Intel-based devices). I suppose there would be limited connections from each device, but many devices.
kitplummer··on Which companies are using Erlang, and why?
Fairly blind question: does Erlang|Elixir and BEAM make any sense in a pseudo-embedded, edge compute or IoT environment with constrained resources (CPU and memory), or even ARM architecture? Aside from the developer-side things, if AMQP were to the centralized communications hub (e.g. RabbitMQ) does using Nerves on devices make any performance benefit - meaning BEAM and app(s) there?

The intent would be pre-process data and stream inward, or simply be a command-and-control interface -> process and provide response.

kitplummer··on The Cult of Kubernetes
Oh yeah. Well then Threads are Cult too.
kitplummer··on Do people become happier after 40?
Not really age-related. But, I definitely now believe concussions affect happiness/depression. As someone in my late 40s who has endure a few concussions, and looking back, can almost definitively state that this physical condition has a part in my mental state. So by correlation...I don't think the question is anything but plausible.
kitplummer··on Ask HN: What language-agnostic programming books should I read?
Pragmatic Practices of an Agile Developer!
kitplummer··on Making a brain for my model plane
Def interested in story.glass. Hopefully open source in its future.
kitplummer··on My Paleo Media Diet
That's an interesting point. I wonder how many people of are regular "socialites" are truly addicted, versus just think that's what you're supposed to do these days. Much like HSN, gambling, etc...I bet the percentage of the former is pretty high.
kitplummer··on My Paleo Media Diet
Well done Jim, you've made Hacker News. Now go eat a Twitterburger. ;)

Knowing that you've reduced you media restrictions somewhat, I'm curious if you're now of the believe that, with all things, a balance is appropriate and too much of anything is bad.

I still struggle with managing the overflow of data that is Twitter, at least to a point where it's not a huge distraction. I wish I could, but I can't.

kitplummer··on ActiveMQ: Not ready for prime time
Yikes. If you're smart, you'll do your diligence and not rely on one person's experience with ActiveMQ. Remember, it is an Apache project - so if something aint there, feel free to fill it in (re: documentation).

I can't believe the ActiveMQ/FuseSource guys weren't willing to work it out with David either. Perhaps there's a bit of open source/commercial software wrangling behind this story. Won't be the first/last time.
