kingwill101··on Arch Linux disables AUR package adoption
You really only upload a manifest and probably a few scripts. Most often AUR packages are just calling out to download external binaries etc
kingwill101··on June in Servo: real world compat, media queries, SharedWorker, and more
It's just a pause until they get to their alpha deadline. Hard to do that when you can't quickly validate all the drive by llm contributions
kingwill101··on June in Servo: real world compat, media queries, SharedWorker, and more
Nah, just individual components where memory haters
kingwill101··on FCC bans foreign-produced solar inverters, grid lockout begins today
Aren't responsible for certifying?
kingwill101··on Our position on open-weights models
China this and China that. Playing right from the playbook..
kingwill101··on Show HN: MCP Defender – OSS AI Firewall for Protecting MCP in Cursor/Claude etc
This looks cool!

A fun thought experiment would be figuring how to achieve something similar using eBPF to get better control at the kernel level

kingwill101··on Don't Support the Coreboot Project
"We never received a quote for the actual porting, but they said the evaluation cost is typically 10% of the total cost, which would mean the porting would have cost around $33,000 for Dasharo-branded coreboot, and $66,000 for unbranded coreboot. Even their highly discounted Dasharo-branded porting comes out to around $250 to $330 an hour, and that’s if they started from scratch. We had 80%+ of the job already complete. We just needed to debug our code."

How can you be champion of open source if you employ such practices? Double the cost?

kingwill101··on We created a new account in Telegram and started looking for a job in Estonia
While it is definitely a legitimate issue. The recent anti Telegram rhetoric i see here on hacker news and other places seem to pretend that everything listed does not happen on all the other big tech platforms. Pretending it is any harder to achieve the same results
kingwill101··on US designates more Chinese tech companies as military collaborators
The fact that *insert American tech company * is still allowed to run amok when the *insert 3 letter agency* has their hands all over it and openly flaunts it is the greatest irony and crime here
kingwill101··on Senator Wyden Letter Confirms NSA Is Buying US Persons' Data from Data Brokers
The irony here is that it's not been done by China or Russia. Why does it seem there's much less outrage if any when it's been done my local agencies?
kingwill101··on Wheel of a Delta Boeing 757 flew off while it was preparing to take off at ATL
And how does that negate Boeing's maintenance woes?
kingwill101··on Amazon Cuts Jobs in Prime Video and MGM Studios
Interestingly prime video had technically always had ads. An ad for other prime video content always plays before the start of anything
kingwill101··on Origins of J
I had the same thought . Maybe the title should be updated to better reflect this
kingwill101··on LinuxDAW – Quality audio software for Linux
Thank you! As a musician I often complain about having to dual boot to get access to all the really good plugins. Mostly due to me not knowing where to find decent enough plugins without having to rely on hacky workarounds using wine
kingwill101··on How many legs do ten elephants have, if two of them are legless?
Still a long way to go before bard is able to truly compete with chatgpt
kingwill101··on Nushell and Uutils
Congrats to the nutshell team!
kingwill101··on Meta deletes Al Jazeera presenter’s profile after show criticising Israel
I always find it strange that Aljazeera gets so much hate. Their English coverage over the years IMO has been mostly unbiased and really stellar.
kingwill101··on Memory Safety for SerenityOS
Congrats to the serenityOs team, can't wait to see where this goes
kingwill101··on Facebook says it may quit Europe over ban on sharing data with US
This is where the fediverse comes in handy.
kingwill101··on U.S. Orders Al Jazeera to Register as a Foreign Agent
So true, most western media are tainted with bias towards propoganda of western governments. Aljazeera is the first station I've seen that has really shed a light on what happens in the middle East
kingwill101··on U.S. Orders Al Jazeera to Register as a Foreign Agent
I'm from the Caribbean and I find I learn a lot more about what's happening in the world. For years I've watched BBC and CNN international and found them way too biased to from a properly unbiased view about most stories.
kingwill101··on Show HN: Neural networks tutorial series with code
I'd love to get into machine learning but for someone who is self taught and never went to college I am yet to find a resource that gracefully introduces math topics needed
kingwill101··on Goodbye Docker: Purging Is Such Sweet Sorrow
I personally like keeping my root partition to a minimal and ever since docker came into the picture I keep running into spacing issues. So the allure for me to switch isn't technical but for peace of mind storing images in userspace
kingwill101··on Year of the Linux Desktop?
What was so significant about those years?
kingwill101··on Security Researchers Publish Ryzen Flaws, Gave AMD 24 Hours Prior Notice
something smells fishy... y 24hrs warning? whatever happened to the usual 90 days disclosure?
kingwill101··on Show HN: Moon – fast 7k Vue alternative
Oh look a new JavaScript framework
kingwill101··on Goby: A new Ruby-inspired language written in Go
Would be interesting if we could use it as a library from go
kingwill101··on A straight talk about btrfs
2 days ago I shutdown my laptop and all was working out great at that point. Now yesterday I turned back on to get some work done and couldn't pass maintenance mode because my home partition got corrupted somehow. Took me all day literally to get it working. I have since changed that partition back to ext4 leaving only / as btrfs
