kinakomochidayo··on SEC asked Coinbase to halt trading in everything except bitcoin, CEO says
This is all moot now of course, after the XRP ruling, that secondary sales of assets don’t make them securities.

The underlying assets are also not securities.

kinakomochidayo··on SEC asked Coinbase to halt trading in everything except bitcoin, CEO says
This right here. Bitcoin Core development is centralized, and anything contrary to what the High Priests of Bitcoin want, is said to be an “attack on Bitcoin”
kinakomochidayo··on Why did it take psychedelics so long to become popular?
Addicts usually have underlying childhood and/or adult traumas to numb their pain so it isn’t surprising.

But surprisingly, if used in the right context, intentions and dose, psychedelics can help with the underlying traumas and addictions. Especially Ayahuasca, MDMA and psilocybin.

kinakomochidayo··on What do I think about biometric proof of personhood?
> how far the crypto people have fallen

People are free to build whatever they want on permissionless blockchains like Ethereum, which is way more open to experimentation and new things (like zero-proof knowledge) than Bitcoin ecosystem, which has more cypherpunk roots.

kinakomochidayo··on What do I think about biometric proof of personhood?
Yup. One thing that I find respectable about Ethereum, contrary to what many Bitcoiners say, is that it’s always trying to find the minimum viable issuance, with less and less issuance, that makes the chain work effectively.

Bitcoin on the other hand, was a one time deal with the 21 million, but the original economics thought up by Satoshi was forever changed after the blocksize was constrained in 2017, and now, there’s a high risk that there won’t be enough transaction fees in the future to support Bitcoin, even with Lightning Network.

kinakomochidayo··on New talking therapy for depression could be more effective and cheaper than CBT
Personally, I’m glad I jumped right into going to a Ayahuasca retreat to kickstart the emotional and spiritual side of things with my own healing journey. Cannabis is no longer appealing, and it actually feels a little numbing, and would prefer occasional mushroom trips to delve in deep.

It helps that the purging and perhaps the MAOI in Ayahuasca seem to have immediate effects after.

I don’t understand who is the one being “scammed” when a person runs a consensus and execution layer clients along with their 32 ETH? They attest and propose blocks so that users’ transactions get included in the blocks.

If you’re talking about the gas fees, that’s the pricing market at work, similar to toll fees for cars for highways. Layer 2s would be the train or megabuses on those highways - amortized gas costs by the number of people on them.

PoS ensures marginal rewards to everyone equally with the same percentage unlike Bitcoin. You either bought ETH at $8 a pop back in 2017, or you’re now buying it at $1850, but everyone will get ~3.3% rewards for staking. Not that much different from people buying stocks when it was lower and getting dividends.

LN UI is crap unless you use custodial services. People can just use zk privacy to anonymize, and run their own nodes to connect their web3 wallets to.
kinakomochidayo··on Show HN: An Ethereum-authenticated community on Web3, science and technology
It’s actually one of the biggest points of Proof of STAKE. People put ETH on the line, a substantial risk, to act accordingly to the rules set by nodes. Early adopters and the most passionate reap the rewards by buying earlier, and securing the network. Higher price also means higher security as it makes it harder and harder for bad actors to buy ETH and attack the network.
kinakomochidayo··on Show HN: An Ethereum-authenticated community on Web3, science and technology
Only for now, because the minimum is 32 ETH to solo stake. Even then, people can run Rocket Pool minipools with 8 ETH and eventually, it’ll go down even more. And if you still don’t have enough, you can just buy rETH so you get block rewards and MEV.

You can’t even mine with Bitcoin PoW and break even, unless you buy ASICs, and even then, the % ROI is way less than what you’d get with Ethereum PoS (~3.3% for everyone, regardless of how much they stake) In that sense, Ethereum is way more equitable than Bitcoin.

There are also layer 2s which make transactions less than 10 cents, and will be even less with the client updates around September this year.

Electricity use was reduced by 99.98% with the transition to PoS
kinakomochidayo··on Most Bitcoin Inscriptions belong to a single person
LN isn’t even scalable. And even then, the data wouldn’t be saved on-chain which is the main driving point when compared to NFTs on Ethereum which are just links.

On-chain will always have more value compared to inferior ways on L2, similar to how Ethereum L1 NFTs are more valuable than ones created on L2s.

kinakomochidayo··on Most Bitcoin Inscriptions belong to a single person
Yeah naw. Bitcoin worked just fine without this Bank 2.0 LN crap that can’t even scale.

Ordinals wouldn’t even exist without Segwit.

0-conf worked just fine for immediate transactions.

Well, except Lightning UX is horrible.
kinakomochidayo··on Nostr (“Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays”) – An Introduction
Yup. Plus, I don’t want to use Lightning, and prefer web3 wallets instead, and the core Nostr protocol is made up of bitcoiners sooo..
kinakomochidayo··on Nostr (“Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays”) – An Introduction
Other than the tech, one big thing that’s kept me away from Nostr is the people on it. I’d rather not have my feed spammed and have Bitcoin maxis endlessly talking about how stacking Bitcoin is great.

What makes social network work is the diverse range of people and it currently doesn’t have that at all.

kinakomochidayo··on Post, the latest Twitter alternative, is betting big on micropayments for news
Would touch if it’s blockchain agnostic, much prefer Ethereum rollups over LN
kinakomochidayo··on FTX was registered with and licensed by the CFTC, which failed to regulate FTX
Vitalik’s roadmap is an overall view of all the work happening in parallel and some nice to haves; it’s not an official roadmap for Ethereum.

At the end of the day, the specs are defined by the community and implemented by the 10 independent client teams, compared to 1 with Bitcoin.

Besides, node operators still have the choice to update or not update their nodes, similar to Bitcoin.

Ethereum is not a security

kinakomochidayo··on FTX to file for U.S. bankruptcy, CEO resigns
Because they don’t know about hardware wallets or they think it’d be safe to leave their crypto to the exchanges.

Most of the newbies getting into crypto don’t know what it means to hold your keys

kinakomochidayo··on Binance to acquire FTX
Should’ve just increased the blocksize, instead of implementing some crap L2 solution.
kinakomochidayo··on Psychedelics: A Personal Take (2021)
Huh interesting. If I was in the same position, I would’ve started talking to a therapist and start processing the past just so I won’t have to deal with it later in the future.
kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
Ooh very interesting, thanks for explaining!

From reading others replies too, it does looks like client-only mechanism on its own is weak compared to having checks on both the client and server..

kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
Developers can still make the executables available on other centralized servers, decentralized solutions like BitTorrent, etc.

The NFT wallet check could happen internally within the game, perhaps some kind of WebView allowing access to browser wallet extensions.

kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
Because developers will want to make the game content only accessible to buyers who have the receipt
kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
You can patch the check with binaries? Wouldn’t you need to modify the source and build?

I’m not familiar enough with tampering, cracking software like that so I can’t really say.

kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
Sure I guess, if you want to share private keys with friends.
kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
It wouldn’t work for a native streaming service like Stadia, but I could definitely see it working for Single Player games where all the content is stored in the executable, where there isn’t reliance on centralized servers for content. Maybe download the game from IPFS or Arweave, or as another have said, developers making it available on torrents

For multiplayer games, you’d need servers for match making and such, so it’s probably not possible right now.

kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
Have an interface that interacts with MetaMask or WalletConnect within the game.
kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
The idea would work for single player games, where all the content is in the executable, but yeah, multiplayer is another story.
kinakomochidayo··on Google is shutting down Stadia
NFTs would replace DRM, so it would, in order to actually play the game.
