kinai··on Finding an ATM Skimmer: It pays to be paranoid
Shouldn't be necessary, usually those skimmers collect, they don't have a live feed.
kinai··on Why Young Americans Are Giving Up on Capitalism
The Global poverty might be lower, but at the same time there are more people in poverty since the middle class is dying out on every continent. Pretty sure the average American/European has more debt and is worse off than 30-40y ago.

Capitalism is based on debt/interest, which by definition is broken and only follows a downward spiral.

kinai··on We shut down our startup
Yea but they were not building Teslas, they were doing some app/site for restaurants... I wonder what they spend 100k a month on.
kinai··on We shut down our startup
"We had raised a total of $2.8M (2 rounds)" "we were burning $100K/m and making $9K/m in revenue"

That is how startups in America work: a) take any idea b) find enough believers c) throw money at the problem until it either works out or fails.

I mean are those people for real? It's like watching 5y olds playing monopoly

How about: If you need millions investment for your idea then your idea is just BAD (except you are building Teslas maybe)

kinai··on Why Young Americans Are Giving Up on Capitalism
Maybe because except for the 1% most of the population feels the negative effects of it? Doesn't take a genius to see how broken the system is
kinai··on Over-scheduling children during the summer is unnecessary
In our 6 week summer holidays we did the following: 1 week visit grandparents, 1-2 weeks other vacation, rest time spending time outside, building treehouses, playing in the mud, doing stupid things, chilling at the lake, going swimming, bike tours, camping with friends. <-- my summer in a box. America really has an issue with stressing out their children with education and extra curriculums
kinai··on Mathematicians are chronically lost and confused (2014)
I don't find calculus and lin alg very interesting, school ruined those for me forever I guess. I am mostly interested Logic and Information Theory but I guess the latter doesn't go with a good calculus base.

Thanks for the links, I will read the book of proof and try the exercises, though mostly studied those topics already.

kinai··on Mathematicians are chronically lost and confused (2014)
But some areas require knowledge base of others
kinai··on Mathematicians are chronically lost and confused (2014)
Does anybody know a good guide on where to begin? Resources are not the issue here, but usually the overwhelming amount of information regarding all those topics and areas of mathematics. I was always very interested but got discouraged rather quickly, even after a semester at university. So far my favorite access to math was through philosophy.
kinai··on Bullet journal: A simple productivity system that just uses pen and paper
Not sure about the rest of humanity but I got a memory for that...never understood why people waste their time on productivity apps and other nonsense
kinai··on Ask HN: What's the biggest risk you took in your career that paid off?
Cloud Engineer fancy modern title
kinai··on Ask HN: What's the biggest risk you took in your career that paid off?
I learned to be grateful and enjoy the small things in life, to worry less, to calm my mind (which is still a challenge) and to not overthink everything.

It sounds very generic, but putting in words how your character changed is not so easy, I figure I'd have to ask family/old friends.

kinai··on Ask HN: What's the biggest risk you took in your career that paid off?
Very similar story yes, nearly identical actually, I also had issues with anxiety and depression before I left, it was one of the reasons.
kinai··on Ask HN: What's the biggest risk you took in your career that paid off?
I am still traveling (usually switch country every 1-3 months) and freelancing/RemoteWork earning 3 times what I made before and enjoying being my own boss :) And no, I am not a coder/programmer, but IT field, which makes this remote work thing obviously much more easy.
kinai··on Ask HN: What's the biggest risk you took in your career that paid off?
Quit my "dream job", sold/gave away everything I owned, just hopped on a plane to a new continent (Wednesday last day at work, Thursday morning flight went) and see how it goes. First week I sat mostly alone around at some beach, contemplating about what I had done and whether it was the stupidest thing ever. It was a personal challenge. Best decision of my life. That was nearly 3 years ago now.

One can only grow if faced with challenges. I learned a lot about myself and life.

kinai··on India set to start massive project to divert Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers
"Hey lets divert 2 huge natural rivers, I bet there won't be any unforeseen consequences if you really really just put enough thought into it"
kinai··on Achieving a Perfect SSL Labs Score with Go
to extrapolate: if you disable webserver nobody can access it and hence no security risk at all wohooo

obviously refering to the point that all this tight security will result in lot of issues for most users

kinai··on Visual Group Theory
because not millions of 13 year olds will read them
kinai··on Fast.com: Netflix internet connection speed test
40 Euro. 100mbit 9,90, 600mbit 19,90. Eastern Europe for the win ;)
kinai··on Fast.com: Netflix internet connection speed test
Gigabit becomes quite common in Europe. I get 910
kinai··on In-Ear Device That Translates Foreign Languages in Real Time
For business yes, for private? No thank you, you'll lose a lot of knowledge, understanding, mental skills by not trying to learn/understand a new language.
kinai··on “My wife has complained that OpenOffice will never print on Tuesdays” (2009)
I once had the case with a desktop system that when you sat down and started typing it often hardware reseted. Turned out Dell left some metal piece in the case which was hanging between the case and the motherboard (in those few millimeter) and with some stronger desk vibration caused a shortcut.
kinai··on GCHQ's Boiling Frogs paper on software development
when I just opened the pdf my xorg died (OOM) - I kid you not, first time that ever happend. funny coincidence..or is it? I figure now I got a reason to setup that new distro I was playing with burn all them compromised stuff
kinai··on How I found a data leak of a company during a college lecture
So true, no good deed goes unpunished.
kinai··on Your Personal Archiving Project: Where Do You Start?
I agree too, getting rid of mostly everything I owned, regularly cleaning my hard drive and bookmarks is the best way. The less stuff that clings onto you the better.
kinai··on Ask HN: Do I have to go through recruiters nowadays, how do you find new jobs?
Just write to the companies you find interesting. I once got a job offer just because I mailed a in depth review/my thoughts to some CTO (I was not even looking for a job). Rare but happens + you stick out
kinai··on Show HN: We Work Contract – London Web contract jobs with day rates
looking at the rates...I am doing life wrong

kinai··on Bank Underground, the blog written by Bank of England staff
Seems 2008 didn't happen in your reality. The small people have to suffer because if what the banking industry did. Always been that way. How brainwashed you must be to defend this whole industry which has more blood on its hand than any other. Greed seems to get even the smartest people...

Not to mention how banks now push European Countries to get rid of cash so they can earn more by bank accounts/transfer fees.

kinai··on Bank Underground, the blog written by Bank of England staff
"Our goal is to bring more of our thinking into the public domain..."

Like any other bank: Rob the small people, give to the rich, make the government your bitch
