They would almost definitely choose working internet for themselves and nothing for the general population.

Worth mentioning that this setting is in Firefox for Android, which makes it much easier compared to rooting the phone.

He also posted it on his tumblr and medium, if you'd prefer to read it there.

killwhitey··on Google Says 5% of Visitors to Its Sites Have Ad Injectors Installed
A good illustration of how difficult it can be to download software if you're not well trained to spot ads: https://i.imgur.com/0vPdDYU.png
killwhitey··on Meerkat is dying
One thing I find curious is none of the articles about meerkat (that I've read) have mentioned that Color did the same idea in 2011 [1] as one of it's many pivots. I'm curious as to what's different between the two and why one might succeed where another failed.

killwhitey··on Data is at the heart of search, but who has access to it?
Fresh install of Chrome. https://i.imgur.com/4ZyuSNN.png Notice how little "No thanks" and "Choose what to sync are". Nice anti-pattern.

And if you simply sign in and don't choose anything, this is what you get https://i.imgur.com/XQSxwu5.png

killwhitey··on [dead]
As noted in my previous postings (first; second), it was hard to explain why the partners of Kleiner Perkins wanted to make themselves poorer by promoting an unqualified man in favor of a qualified woman. Discrimination of any kind might make sense for a manager at a government agency. [...] But almost anyone should be able to understand that for a VC partnership, indulging in discrimination will personally cost the partners.

I understand being skeptical of the idea that managers in private companies might make irrational decisions that jeopardize their long term profits, but it does happen.

killwhitey··on Google moves WebRTC code samples to GitHub
This project was previously at googlechrome.github.io/webrtc

It may have also existed at Google Code, I don't know. But this was the repo I was directed to after Google I/O last year.

killwhitey··on One Week of Harassment on Twitter
There was a woman video game reviewer who messaged the mothers of boys who sent her hateful messages on Facebook, which was entertaining.

killwhitey··on King of Clickbait
There was a Vice podcast episode with the founders of Upworthy. It's not exactly an in-depth investigation, but interesting.

But that definition would include Amazon. I don't think a company founded in 1994 and went public in 1997 can be considered a startup.
killwhitey··on Show HN: Play music by typing
Someone made a native version of this a few years back. Had a lot of fun playing with it for a week in 2009.

killwhitey··on Crafting link underlines on Medium
Ah, right. http://jsfiddle.net/41s1wqhs/19/

I should note that this means links that span multiple words wont break. That can easily be fixed with a little more effort though. My point is this is concept is very easy to do with css, especially when you have control of the exact font and size it's rendering in, like Medium does.

killwhitey··on Unprofessionalism
>For example, "Australians are upside-down". Lazy, and makes many people upset. Are they upset because it is lazy?

Are you saying there is no joke so bland, overused, and by the books that it would make people groan and say "that joke is so bad I feel offended you would think I would find that funny"

People don't dislike fart jokes because they're offended by farts. They dislike fart jokes because they're usually bad.

killwhitey··on Unprofessionalism
For me, it's not that the joke is offensive, it's that it's offensively lazy. Nickelback is a band that gets regularly shit on and putting that option in your app just says you wanted to make a joke but weren't creative enough to think of one. I'm surprised they didn't throw a mother-in-law joke in there for good measure.
