khelavastr··on Sam Altman's sister amends lawsuit accusing OpenAI CEO of sexual abuse
Should people be prosecuted for serial crimes that start when they're minors before they're ever caught? Or should they be charged as minors?
khelavastr··on Colorectal Cancer Is Rising Among the Young, Even Kids and Teens
side of body cancer develops on is closely linked to side of body phone is carried
khelavastr··on Silencing AirTags enables stalkers and domestic violence
Just use a Tile instead. Tracking without BS speaker noise.
khelavastr··on Portland Real Estate Is Such a Mess That All Housing Is Affordable Housing
because Intel hollowed out and Oregon shut down so much natural resource utilization
khelavastr··on Risk factors for androgenetic alopecia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Should be titled SOME risk factors since it didn't do all of them
khelavastr··on Partnership and economic drivers of Gambia men with foreign tourists
Literally Jim Crow concerns in the flesh about competition for women by more attractive men of another race.
khelavastr··on Could Addis Ababa become a prosperous megacity without becoming car-dependent?
What kind of useful store of wealth will replace cars?
khelavastr··on The problem is not the AI code, but nobody knows anything anymore
People don't get fired for dishonesty or persistent failure like you'd expect.
khelavastr··on Show HN: Asimov's 4 Laws for AI Contexts
The gobbledygook means different dependencies on AI. Not lack of dependencies on AI.

There are definitely ways to exclude huge spaces of English reliably..that's not what this is doing

khelavastr··on The addiction of online sports gambling: "Like crack in the '80s"
It was not literally as bad as crack in the 80s. That's an insulting comparison.
khelavastr··on Napster Is Now Making AI-Powered 'Digital Twins' of Teachers
The KidNapster futurama episode lmao
khelavastr··on More than 900 killed in Gaza this year despite ceasefire
"Mass murder" is the right term. Unless they were shooting at Israelis or trying to set explosives or something.
khelavastr··on Do you think it happened? Research stolen from their Codex private chats
I'm surprised solutions weren't trained off their Office365 or Google Docs..
khelavastr··on Long-term melatonin use linked to 90% higher heart failure risk
The kynuerenine pathway makes a bunch of stuff besides niacinamide aka nicotinamide.

88% to 96% of tryptophan on average iirc, gets turned into kynurenine from average intake.

khelavastr··on When declaring an incident becomes everyone's favorite workaround
Reporting incidents as sev-2 that obviously aren't, across state lines, electronically, to secure employment is wire fraud.

Once your corporation normalizes serial felon behavior, stability goes down the drain.

khelavastr··on Nobody Has Actually Built a Software Factory
Unironically, Microsoft is the world's software factory.
khelavastr··on Federal government surveilling professional lobstermen
Lobster and fish overharvesting fraud is off the charts in parts of New England especially. It's about time.

So easy for fishers to sell prime catches to local markets and suppliers who will fill in quota species instead or skip paperwork altogether.

So easy for boats to unload their catches of protected species to markets on paper as different animals to local sellers. They save the honest paperwork to sell to national distributors.

(The only time I've seen wider public coverage about this is that TV show "hightown")

khelavastr··on Show HN: The cheapest GPU cloud – H100s at $2.04/HR, H200s at $3/HR
This company would be more trustworthy if it listed an HQ, about page, history founder info, or anything...
khelavastr··on Electric rain can eat through metal
protonated rain aka acid rain
khelavastr··on Canada Hires 48 Scholars Away from Top U.S. Universities
$500 million in a year for 48 top scholars, huh...
khelavastr··on Most cited Xkcd comics on Hacker News

khelavastr··on Anthropic's ‘watermark’ text adulteration in Claude is a perversion of writing
It's because the individuals who write those laws are literally trying to shove neo-Nazi policies into EU practice. I wonder how many people would make policies like this if they and their families were publicly identified and criticized as neo-Nazi elements in society.

You think someone will write Nazi-promoting AI policy like this when society is encouraged to look at their families as examples of neo-Nazi corruption? When their wives' and kids' friends spurn them while their families engage in obvious criminal activity to harm world productivity?

Critics need to be more precise.

khelavastr··on NP-overrated
Traveling salesman solution within 2N for optimal solution length N is trivially solvable for K^2log(K) for K places. Just make the minimal spanning tree and do a loop of it.

A lot of professors don't teach this, and it's recklessly ignorant if not worse.

khelavastr··on Neural Word Embedding as Implicit Matrix Factorization (2014)
Then the gem from Microsoft Research, "Network Embedding as Matrix Factorization: Unifying DeepWalk, LINE, PTE, and node2vec"

khelavastr··on Exercise works for depression. So why isn't it treated like real medicine?
The studies that show this are generally aggressively biased against people who do physical labor for subsistence and are worn out or exhausted to the point of depression.

If studies showed that African women who walk miles and miles collecting water somehow are less depressed than women with local water, I'll be more sold that exercise does something special..

khelavastr··on Tell HN: TIL accessing old.reddit.com now requires accounts
Not for me. They must be rolling it up gradually. It'll lead to a precipitous drop in usage diversity. I'd encourage a shareholder lawsuit over it. Reddit never advertise an account-capture strategy, and the fact they're doing this points to critical structural organizational shortcomings.
khelavastr··on OnePlus to Pull Out of American and European Markets
They had subpar software and pretty terrible screens. I think some builds had spyware too sending data to the Chinese
khelavastr··on Microsoft is laying off 4,800 employees
Easy on the misinformation.

Microsoft traditionally cuts 6% of workforce per year for performance reasons.

The fact that this 6% is involved with AI doesn't change the underlying fact that this is still classic Microsoft performance management.

khelavastr··on Supreme Court ruling blocks lawsuits against maker of Roundup
New roundup is a lot more toxic than glyphosate. It's absurd they forced glyphosate out of the market.

I seriously suspect that glyphosate's safety is so obvious at a population level compared to what's in roundup now, folks in power aligned who didn't want the market for other herbicides to get restricted.

khelavastr··on Notes from tired Egyptian whose job is explaining that humans built the pyramids
They used kite-sails with rollers, according to Caltech
