kevinholesh··on Why Texas is doing so much better economically than the rest of the nation
Or at the federal level.
kevinholesh··on The HTML5 test – How well does your browser support HTML5?
Webkit Nightly: 133/160
kevinholesh··on Four Chrome OS Contenders that Could Take on Apple's iPad
I'll believe it when I see it.
kevinholesh··on IPhone OS 4.0 unveiled, adds multitasking, shipping this summer
If you're looking solely at market share. Look at the profits from smartphones and Apple is dominating.
kevinholesh··on The Startup Story of Carbonmade
There's few entrepreneurs I look up to as much as Spencer Fry. Well written story of Carbonmade's story.
kevinholesh··on DHH vs. Calacanis on This Week in Startups
I loved the quote from David when he said selling to Fortune 500 companies takes "strippers and steaks."

Overall, great interview.

I'd love to see Jason C take on Jason Fried and DHH.

kevinholesh··on Ask HN: Please review my new site
Go easy on the help tooltip pop-up things. It's unexpected and does more to startle me than help me.

The text is too long. Shorten the tooltips to a sentence.

Also, add a slight delay to the tooltips: http://snipplr.com/view/4163/highlight-menu-on-hover-with-de...

kevinholesh··on David Rose: Why NY Angels Charges Entrepreneurs
Wonder what Mr. Calacanis thinks of these logical reasons...

kevinholesh··on Why the iPad is not for web browsing (yet)
I agree that work needs to be done to optimize websites specifically for the iPad, but most accessible* websites I can think of now would work just fine.

* Accessible means no Flash, no unnecessary JavaScript, and clean markup practices.

kevinholesh··on You want more good jobs, spawn more Steve Jobs
Q: “What legislation, what tax incentives, do we need right now to replicate you all a million times over?”

A: Instead of taxing productivity, why not tax consumption instead? http://www.fairtax.org/

kevinholesh··on Climate Change Authority Admits Mistake
It seems like climate scientists are more occupied with manipulating the data to suit them rather than reporting the facts.

Sample from some climate emails: "Ammann/Wahl - try and change the Received date! Don't give those skeptics something to amuse themselves with." Source: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405274870477970457455...

kevinholesh··on 190% Improvement In Landing Page Conversions By Removing Content
You guys are right. I confused myself with the wording and thought too much about it.

Thank you for correcting me.

kevinholesh··on 190% Improvement In Landing Page Conversions By Removing Content
2.1% -> 6.1% is a 290% improvement, not 190%.

Don't cut yourself short ;-)

kevinholesh··on MeetInnovators interview: How Derek Sivers Sold CD Baby (as sole owner) for $22M
Wow that is annoying how you have to register to download the MP3.

Also, "Subscribe in iTunes" link is no where to be found.

kevinholesh··on You can always do less
Their products have definitely grown, but I think they've improved rather than falling victim to feature creep.

Look at what Basecamp could've become without their constant "you can always do less" mentality: http://www.microsoft.com/project/en/us/project-professional-...

kevinholesh··on RockYou.com database breached, 32 million unencrypted passwords obtained
The breach definitely sounds illegal, but why the hell were they storing unencrypted passwords in the first place?

When I first learned about databases, that is the very first thing I learned never to do.

kevinholesh··on A Form of Madness - Dive Into HTML5
They would either have to type the date input or you could have a fallback date picker using jQuery (or whatever framework) that produces the same format as the built-in date picker.
kevinholesh··on A Form of Madness - Dive Into HTML5
True, but why not make the experience better for browsers that support these standards and have a decent, albeit not identical, fallback for IE?
kevinholesh··on Picking Your Co-Founders: What's luck got to do with it?
Spencer might not agree, but why not go at it alone until you find the right person? If you're driven enough to start your own company in a space you know a lot about, you should be driven enough to do so alone, at least temporarily.
kevinholesh··on Top Internet Startup Scalability Killers
In my mind, scalability is the best problem a startup could ever have.

It means people demand your product so much that you need to concentrate on making more and more of your product. Definitely better than too little demand.

kevinholesh··on The reason why banks are suddenly repaying their bailout funds
I don't like it when they say "$90 billion in repayments to the taxpayers in a week"

That makes it seem like us taxpayers will actually see some of that money as a return, but we never will.

kevinholesh··on Public Fried Chicken (by Scott Banister)
There's no such thing as free chicken.
kevinholesh··on Someone Stole My Startup Idea – Part 2: They Raised Money With My Slides?
"Over the next two years we left them in the dust."

You're golden then. There will always be people that try to leech off your success, but you have the ability to get their first.

kevinholesh··on The 37signals Manifesto (original site from 1999)
They are just a business trying to make a buck, and sadly, that is what makes them somewhat unique. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube are "successful" and get a ton of press, but they've yet to make a profit. 37signals isn't afraid to charge for a product they know is great.

37signals is really good at making you realize how these web companies might not be the best business to get into. Could there be a bubble slowing building that will eventually burst?

kevinholesh··on How we increased ecommerce sales 100x
11) Start with a really low base revenue so the percentage looks huge and grabs your attention
kevinholesh··on Ask HN: Rate this Start Up - Venmo.com
But the person who submitted the story says otherwise:

http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=948793

kevinholesh··on Ask HN: Rate this Start Up - Venmo.com
That says a lot about startups now a days.

They could probably get away with charging 1% or 2%, but it looks like they don't take any transaction fees.

kevinholesh··on Please Review My Startup (Stage 1): Project Management Methodologies
Correct. I didn't see your post. I do say continue to stage 2.

Listen to what jacquesm said and go more off the beaten path. I check Digg, Reddit and HN occasionally so your site wouldn't be particularly useful to me, but it could be with a little improvement.

kevinholesh··on Please Review My Startup (Stage 1): Project Management Methodologies
Interesting idea but the URL is hard to communicate to someone in real life. Also it just looks like the top stories are all from Hacker News. Think about why would someone go to your site rather than the source (HN)? What makes you different?
