kevinguay··on Google Profile Icon Maker
A simple web app that generates colored Google profile icons using the same font and colors as the default random-colored Google icons.
kevinguay··on Show HN: Curated List of Online Learning
Pluralsight has excellent software dev and other IT/CS-related courses. https://www.pluralsight.com
kevinguay··on Bartender 4 Beta (macOS Big Sur) Released
This is quite the update - very sleek. My favorite new feature is the "show on hover". Just put your mouse where the icons should be and the appear like magic!

It really cleans up an already improved menu bar in macOS Big Sur.

kevinguay··on Wiki Bankruptcy
We use HelpDocs.io (love it) and they have a "set article to go stale" option. I haven't used it, but it seems like a nice reminder to re-evaluate or delete the page.
kevinguay··on Dolphins at popular spot miss tourists and keep leaving 'gifts' on shore
Seems to be all backwards. The dolphins can't imagine what happened to us:

"So long and thanks for all the gifts"

kevinguay··on Next dream job can be in an HTTP header
The New York Times has a job link in the console (including a nice ASCII logo that doesn't render well in HN):

NYTimes.com: All the code that's fit to printf()

kevinguay··on Potential for Iranian Cyber Response to U.S. Military Strike in Baghdad
I received a similar alert/report from CrowdStrike today.
kevinguay··on Perfectly Cropped
I have heard complaints about this too in the form of "Whatever you do, don't upgrade to iOS 13." (Me: "I've been running 13 since July..")
kevinguay··on The IT Guy vs. the Con Artist
This was a great story.. thanks to Planet Money for re-broadcast it.
kevinguay··on Five Hundred and Seven Mechanical Movements (1908)
What a great project. I have a very similar book (1800 Mechanical Movements, Devices, and Appliances) and have a blast flipping through it. It is great to see the illustrations come alive. Great great job!
kevinguay··on B&H PayBoo
Back in the 1920s/30s when sales tax was introduced, companies had to decide whether to include the tax in the item's price, eat the cost, or pass it along to the customers. As we are all painfully aware, it was passed along to the consumers. This is a really creative way of combining credit/store card rewards with sales tax in consumer's minds. Of course money is fungible, so it doesn't matter if the reward is covering sales tax or just a fixed percent (although the later could be higher than most fixed percents depending on state). Regardless, an interesting experiment.
kevinguay··on Julian Assange arrested in London
I'm surprised it took them this long to kick him out of the Embassy. Talk about overstaying your welcome.
