See sentence 2.

> The change is motivated by science demonstrating that the majority of SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs early in the course of illness, generally in the 1-2 days prior to onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after.

kevinavery··on Freeman Dyson takes on the climate establishment (2009)
> e360: Are there people who are knowledgeable about this topic who could do the job of pointing out what you see as the flaws?

> Dyson: I am sure there are. But I don’t know who they are.

> I have a lot of friends who think the same way I do. But I am sorry to say that most of them are old, and most of them are not experts. My views are very widely shared.

One plausible explanation is that as people become knowledgeable, they no longer share his view.

kevinavery··on How I Run a Company with ADHD
> it's not lost on me that I admitted to previously consuming 3/4 of a gallon of Monster a day two comments ago and now I'm posting about shitting blood

May be pure coincidence, but in my case the former was causing the latter. Through trial and error I discovered that zero caffeine intake completely eliminates my symptoms.

kevinavery··on Python’s For - Else
Unintuitive features that "could be useful" sounds like the antithesis of good design.
kevinavery··on Face ID is replacing Touch ID on the new iPhone X
Exactly. Someone mining Facebook could build a directory of doppelgängers near each person. A little social engineering could get a bystander to unlock the target's phone without them even realizing they are facilitating a crime.
kevinavery··on Face ID is replacing Touch ID on the new iPhone X
They say that Face ID falsely recognizes 1 in 1,000,000 people (1 in 50,000 for Touch ID), but it's a lot easier to find the people who look like a given target to unlock their phone. Could be an issue if a mutual friend knows someone who looks enough like you to unlock your phone.

Well he only follows 45 people on Twitter. Roughly a third are Trump entities, another third work in the white house, and the rest work at Fox News.

kevinavery··on A Healthy Hatred of OOP, or the principles of my message-driven framework
I view that more as a risk of using mutable state, not OOP. Regardless, I'd rather have the mutable state contained in as limited a scope as possible.
kevinavery··on A Healthy Hatred of OOP, or the principles of my message-driven framework
Also referred to in this context as encapsulation. OOP provides a method of information hiding that allows implementation details to be changed later without changing the public API.
kevinavery··on Thread pools: How do I use them?
Yep, it's a really cool library. I'm pretty new to it myself, but I made a little gist of how one might approach this problem: https://gist.github.com/kevinavery/941e7d67c4f8b104f610

I was kinda surprised by how tricky it was to make a Flow that turned ByteStrings into separate String lines, but it seems like the custom GraphStage approach generalizes really well to more complicated stages.

kevinavery··on Magic Leap raises $827M in Series C
The first iteration of a good AR system could simply sidestep the latency issue by embracing layers.

Magic Leap should skip the fancy stuff (mixing virtual scenes with real), at least at first, and focus the many other useful features of a great head-mounted display system - think mobile notifications, video calls, web browser, etc.

It could easily replace smart watches and later cell phones and computer monitors without solving the latency issue.
