kentt··on Founder to CEO: How to build a great company from the ground up
Indie hackers
kentt··on The impact of the ‘open’ workspace on human collaboration
Well we know this right, but we're still subjecting ourselves to these bizarre environments that make us less productive and less happy. On top of that, this is just one area that we're sure is obviously stupid and it's measurable. There's about 100 other things at work that are also obviously stupid but might not be as measurable or popular to critique.
kentt··on [dead]
Clickbait title that's mostly false. HN loves to hate Bitcoin though. I can't believe even newsweek can get to top with that garbage.
kentt··on Sony introduces the DPT-CP1 digital paper tablet with a $600 price tag
Why? I'm interested in picking something like this up.
kentt··on Apartment baiting with Facebook Ads
This may reduce the annoyance: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/make-medium-readab...
kentt··on System76 and LVFS
Just don't touch system76. They're just low quality rebranded Sager laptops with a crap version on Linux. You can just buy the same laptop and if you really like their horrible version of Linux, then put that on there.
kentt··on Great technology should improve life, not distract from it
I want this to not suck. I have my doubts since gmail is ridiculously buggy with automatic syncing turned off. Only notifying for 'urgent' notifications reeks of just not getting it. That's just to pick on one of many examples of how their services are meant to be disruptive and are defective otherwise.
kentt··on The Difficulty of Untraining Drug Dogs How to Smell Marijuana
I was under the impression that drug dogs we're mostly ineffective[1] anyway so this shouldn't be an issue. I guess this article would imply I'm misinformed. I'd welcome correction.

kentt··on Stripe Atlas for LLCs
I appreciate the advice you've given through your blog and podcast. Thanks for taking the time to create those things. They've been inspiring.

I'm wonder if a US LLC would be better for me? I'm a mISV in Canada. I use Stripe & PayPal and make almost enough to live on. I have a US bank account but Canadian everything else (sole proprietorship, business license, tax id, citizenship, etc.). I don't plan on ever being funded, selling the business, taking on partners or making more than a 150k/yr.

kentt··on Go's New Brand
I'm so glad I don't have to sit through design presentations anymore. Just reading the first few words of the "Brand Book" made me die inside.
kentt··on Credit card fraud warning signs
Yep I've spent a lot of money at NewEgg and the tricks I have to employ to get a legitimate order through are constantly changing. It let me use a PayPal account for a while (then said it was fraudulent), then a CC with a US address (then that was fraudulent because it was a Canadian card), then Bitcoin only. I'm guess the last one should work for a while.
kentt··on Hijack of Amazon’s domain service used to reroute web traffic for two hours
Wow myetherwallet is trusted for transaction very non-trivial amounts. What would a good mitigation strategy be for these types of attacks.
kentt··on Why I Don't Sign Non-Competes
Last time I signed one it was very weakly worded. I laughed and said "I'll only sign this because it's completely unenforceable here". It was a bit awkward.
kentt··on Frivolous, Empty, and Perfectly Delightful
Funny, for me it didn't show the loading indicator until I actually went to the tab and watched it 'load'. Very 90s/modern.
kentt··on Show HN: Macro – Keyboard Shortcuts for the web
Can anyone compare this to using vimium. I've been using that for a while and an mostly pretty happy.
kentt··on Why you can’t cash out part 1: Bitcoin’s “price” is largely fictional
edit: removing because I don't enjoy getting into internet arguments. All the best to you.

kentt··on Lightbot: Puzzles Game Using Programming Logic
My neice and nephew love this game. They're 5 & 7. My only complaint is that I think the difficulty ramps up a bit fast or their could be a bit more easier levels. Would pay for that.
kentt··on Nanobox is now free for developers
I haven't heard of this before, but it looks like it's similar to Docker compose or maybe a layer on top? And insight or comparison as to why you would use this over other tools.
kentt··on Migrating Slack's Desktop App to BrowserView
I'd be okay with Slack being sufficient but taking a gig of RAM. Instead it's really shitty and buggy and also take a gig of RAM. Any one of their problems doesn't make it a horrible product, that just the one most often pointed to as indicative of how horrible their engineering is.
kentt··on Ask HN: What is your “I wish I did it sooner” moment?
i3wm. I thought it couldn't be that much better, it just a window manager. Now it's hard to imagine using anything else.

kentt··on Google's latest iPhone rival off to a rocky start
Actually I agree that this is just like a CD drive but reach the opposite conclusion. Removing the CD drive was mostly worse for the consumer of the MBA at the time. Sure, almost no one wants a CD drive now, but that gives little credence to the idea that it should have been removed while still best for the consumer.
kentt··on Pop_OS by System76
I had a system76 so I'd definitely never try this. Fooled me once.
kentt··on The electricity for 1BTC trade could power a house for a month
The second line was factually incorrect, the first was click bait. Did it get better after that?
kentt··on Keyboard latency
I'm not sure if there's a common switch with less travel, but you could look into using spacer and/or landing pads to accomplish what you're looking for.
kentt··on Keyboard latency
Makes me wonder about the latency of bt keyboards as well as my custom made keyboard controller.

kentt··on Backblaze has ordered 100 petabytes of hard drives
I just started using Duplicacy with B2 and am very pleased. It's a bit more expensive if you have a lot of data (I do), but it's way faster, transparent and usable than their client.
kentt··on How Emotional Labor is Dragging Down Gender Equality
This sounds a lot more like the story of an unhappy marriage and poor communication, than about emotional labour. The narrative of a bumbling but hard working ox of a husband and a whip smart, but overworked wife is tired and unhelpful to both parties.
kentt··on Essential has sold just 5,000 phones since launch
I'm just so baffled by this. I've been using bluetooth happily for over a decade. With some minor hiccups, I'd say it works near flawlessly every time. However, everyone seems to hate bt, it never works for anyone, manufacturers put it in everything, people continually switch to bt devices. Nothing adds up.
kentt··on New in PostgreSQL 10
Seconded. Postgres is such a high quality project in so many ways. I'm rarely left wanting when using it, and very often pleasantly surprised.
