You are fine. One of my co worker's kids was licked in kindergarden by another kid. Nobody made a big deal out of it.

kelukelugames··on California updates laws around salary and criminal histories of job applicants
Posturing? Pettiness? Punishment for daring to negotiate? Companies invent policies to the disadvantage of employees.

Then again, I wouldn't want to work for someone who doesn't understand basic negotiations.

kelukelugames··on California updates laws around salary and criminal histories of job applicants
Hi folks, I don't think you should downvote syshum. Of course there are multiple possibilities. And getting an offer rescinded happens to men too. Heck, it happened to me. It's impossible to know if any individual case is due to sexism. But when there is a pattern established at CGH Healthcare then something is wrong.
kelukelugames··on California updates laws around salary and criminal histories of job applicants
Story time!

A friend of a friend got an offer from CHG healthcare. She checked Glassdoor and found her pay to be at the lower end of the position. She countered with a number near the higher end. Instead of negotiating, CHG Healthcare rescinded her offer. And that's how you perpetuate the wage gap!

kelukelugames··on California updates laws around salary and criminal histories of job applicants
Yeah, I think both laws are right steps in the right directions. But I don't know if they are big steps.

The hope is by the time a company has invested enough to make a conditional offer that they are more willing to forgive a conviction history.

kelukelugames··on California updates laws around salary and criminal histories of job applicants
The ban is not on asking about criminal history. It's a ban on asking about criminal history before a conditional offer is made. Quote from article:

Under this law, employers will no longer be allowed to ask applicants about their criminal conviction histories until after a conditional offer of employment has been made.

Have your read the book Pedigree? It's about how people get these type of jobs written by a Kellog Professor. A lot of gatekeeping. Our society is not merit based.

My friend went to GSB and works in PE. I hung out with his co workers once and they talk about things I can never afford and I'm in the 1%!

Found this from google search.

Can't remember the article I original read. I went to MIT and of the handful of black students I knew well, half were foreign.

kelukelugames··on Stanford University data glitch exposes truth about scholarships
I'm sure people have done studies. Who donates more money? The poor kids who struggled through life and attended Stanfurd that finallyed opened the doors for him to become rich? Or the blue blood with the silver spoon who would have made it through daddy's connections regardless of which school he went to?

I feel the former has stronger gratitude for his school.

Thanks for telling me the comment is unclear. I'm working on writing better. It's a complaint against liars and hypocrites. That's what I'm trying to say.

Name dropping Ellen Pao never helps on HN or reddit. People here really don't like her, whereas she's a hero in other spheres. Nevertheless, I don't agree with everything she did but she offers insight people miss.

kelukelugames··on Stanford University data glitch exposes truth about scholarships
Sure, I think we are saying the same thing? It's easier to lie about diversity and inclusion now that it has become popular. Maybe even mandatory because many people want to attend a school or work at a company that values diversity. I remember during orientation they showed a Pride video. I thought it was unrelated but my co-workers teared up. Previously, companies wouldn't have bothered or knew how to.
kelukelugames··on Stanford University data glitch exposes truth about scholarships
I somewhat agree with the first part. That's why most of Harvard's black students are first or second generation African immigrants. I have Nigerian friends who joke about being Nigerian princes because, well, they kind of are.

The second part assumes class is the only disadvantage. Perhaps preference for poorer student is the only type of affirmative action accepted by both major US political parties. And I agree money solves a lot of problems, but it doesn't fix every race and gender issues. The best example is all of the famout actresses bringing awareness to sexual assault.

kelukelugames··on Stanford University data glitch exposes truth about scholarships
Stanfurd can favor students born on a blue moon with an extra nipple for all I care. But claiming all scholarships are need based, giving them to rich students, and then telling students to not discuss their aid is disgusting. In my book this is on par with the wage fixing between Apple and the other tech giants.

This is the downside of diversity and inclusion. Companies and schools have gotten so good at paying lip service to it, we can't tell what kind of bullshit happens on the inside.

kelukelugames··on Judge Tells Uber Lawyer: ‘It Looks Like You Covered This Up’
Maybe the number of bad rides is low but the severity of a single one can be career ending. Didn't some politician recently get fired because she berated a driver and said, "Who are they going to believe? You or me?"

Policy is to address the combined impact of frequency and magnitude.

Also, I took pictures of baby peeing on himself to show to his future dates. Can't wait!

kelukelugames··on Parents now spend twice as much time with their children as 50 years ago
I'm making a joke. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I made the list more outrageous so it's more obvious.

A lot of male comedians transition to family jokes after having children. This could be the catalyst for my stand up career!

kelukelugames··on Parents now spend twice as much time with their children as 50 years ago
http://www.prb.org/pdf10/single-motherfamilies.pdf

This paper says it's 24%. Do you have a source for 41? That's too high.

kelukelugames··on Parents now spend twice as much time with their children as 50 years ago
>One analysis of 11 rich countries estimates that the average mother spent 54 minutes a day caring for children in 1965 but 104 minutes in 2012. Men do less than women, but far more than men in the past: their child-caring time has jumped from 16 minutes a day to 59.

I spend 100+ minutes every day changing diapers. Actually that's not true, most of my time is spent trying to put the stupid newborn to go to sleep. I thought paternity leave was going to be chill and maybe I can learn a new hobby, master javascript, or travel to Europe. Nope, more stress than day job.

I think fatherhood is evolving too. My father's generation almost did nothing and that was acceptable. That is changing. One of the women in a dual income family says "Mom handles input, Dad handles output."

kelukelugames··on Ask HN: How to become the first result of a Google search for a name?
Sort of related. In college when facebook first started, we had a page called "The Michael Lees of Berkeley" with dozens of members. One of the Michael Lees is on the no fly list which has been a hassle for the others.

Please use a more informative title and name the hobby. The current title "My unusual hobby" is click bait.
kelukelugames··on John Lasseter taking a leave of absence amid reports of inappropriate behavior
I disagree. I think guest lecturer still are a position of authority, but there are degrees. HP CEO was fired for dating a contractor or something like that. Where is the line?

Also Bill Gates.

Anyway, my personal wish is coworkers should never, ever date. There are so many options, why take one that has the potential to blow up? Yet, it's one of the common ways people meet. I even knew one who married a woman he interviewed and hired. If only we could all be more logical about relationships. :/

kelukelugames··on John Lasseter taking a leave of absence amid reports of inappropriate behavior
Yes! Why do we keeping on calling assault "misconduct" or "inappropriate behavior"?
