keithcarolus··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
That Shopify employs 3,000 engineers is astounding.

I was rejected after a fairly basic ML interview at Shopify and when I asked for feedback I was told someday I could become a machine learning engineer.

I don’t think the interviewer read my resume or understood my responses as this was after working for several years in ML roles - staff applied ML and scientist.

So maybe that tells you something.

keithcarolus··on A walkable ASCII cyberpunk city in one HTML file [video]
From the video description:

“I wanted to build a city that feels alive, but is made entirely from ASCII characters.

This is a small custom engine built with JavaScript and Canvas — no Unity, Unreal, 3D models, textures, or shaders. The world is a grid-based city with roads, buildings, trees, cars, and pedestrians.

Every frame, the engine raycasts from the camera to work out perspective, depth, collisions, and what should be visible, then draws it all using letters, numbers, and symbols.

In other words: it’s a tiny 3D city made from blocks, viewed through a screen of ASCII characters.

Still a work in progress, but I’m going to keep pushing the atmosphere, detail, and interaction further.”

keithcarolus··on Umbrel – Personal Cloud
A format to easily wrap containerized applications in an app store or like a package manager? Sort of like a lightweight proxmox?

I’ve had the same idea. It’s the missing piece to beautiful UI wrapping around a homelab. I think this is one of the cooler pieces of what Umbrel is providing.
