kdmtctl··on Forgejo: A self-hosted lightweight software forge
I've missed that part. AFAIK both are forked from nektos/act and can't be dramatically different. All this story is an unnecessary dichotomy for me. Still hosting production code on a Gitea instance and will happily pay a dime but didn't get why yet.
kdmtctl··on Forgejo: A self-hosted lightweight software forge
Gitea also has actions.

kdmtctl··on PostgreSQL is the Database Management System of the Year 2024
Citus can do this. Postgres is good but extensibility makes it best.
kdmtctl··on Sonos CEO steps down after app update debacle
This probably costs a fortune. Certainly there is a market.
kdmtctl··on I've acquired a new superpower
> When your belt buckle hangs a little loosely on the front of your pants. You can hook the buckle's prong onto the front button of your pants and it'll stay put. So many people are excited to learn this.

Yep. And there is a special vertical prong keeper tab on some trousers for exactly this purpose.

kdmtctl··on Magic/tragic email links: don't make them the only option
You have already described prerequisites. It is unwise to use biometrics if you are a person of interest in a "not so democratic country". And to get a riffle to your face they should demolish a door which is commonly steel in a "not so democratic country". This is loud and gives plenty of time.

Nothing happens out of the blue. People don't get searched randomly except some rare places where an iPhone is the source of danger itself being a valuable possession.

If someone feels that such events could happen it is mandatory to do OPSEC. If not, bad for this someone. Anyway, a proper torture will reveal the password in a "not so democratic country". Which also happens in the real life.

kdmtctl··on Magic/tragic email links: don't make them the only option
The event itself is often expected. Nothing happens out of the blue. The exact time of the event is unknown. So, extra precautions like disabling biometrics before leaving home is a normal risk mitigation practice.
kdmtctl··on Web page annoyances that I don't inflict on you
It's fine on a simple site. But lack of SSL/TLS also effectively disables http2 which is a performance hit, not just a security concern.
kdmtctl··on App Should Have Been a Website (and Probably Your Game Too)
> I'm a solo dev for a startup and this is something I always hammer home to my non-technical co-founder.

He is just trying to piggyback an another distribution channel to get more visibility and another place to be found. It has nothing to do with UX.

kdmtctl··on From Pegasus to Predator – The evolution of commercial spyware on iOS [video]
One shouldn't use a locked down device to auto share pictures and approve children app install requests. If there is no need for a separate device for sensitive data then one possibly is not a person of interest and doesn't need a lockdown mode. It is not possible to have comfort and security at the same time.

And a sensitive device should not be easily discoverable to gatekeep who can actually send anything to it. This is also renders it unusable for day to day family tasks.

kdmtctl··on Solaar is a Linux manager for many Logitech keyboards, mice, and other devices
Sorry. Can't comment for the Windows version. At least it doesn't require input logging permission on Mac. I'm OK with upgrade checks but don't want a keylogger. Which is allegedly not.
kdmtctl··on More than 140 Kenya Facebook moderators sue after diagnoses of PTSD
Exactly. Everything I mentioned is decreasing the price.
kdmtctl··on More than 140 Kenya Facebook moderators sue after diagnoses of PTSD
Isn't this a reason for Meta to outsource to countries where people somewhat immune to the first world problems? Aside of corruption and work force neglect?
kdmtctl··on Google starts tracking all your devices in 8 weeks
I struggle with this often, but http://www.google.com/ncr does the trick and allow to choose the language later if necessary.
kdmtctl··on More than 140 Kenya Facebook moderators sue after diagnoses of PTSD
Just scrolled a lot to find this. And I do believe that moderators in a not so safe country seen a lot in their lives. But this also should make them less vulnerable for this kind of exposures and looks like it is not.
kdmtctl··on Introducing S2
Quite dangerous. Will look almost like the Schutzstaffel runic insignia. I'd better avoid this resemblance.
kdmtctl··on Torpedo juice: Legendary, illegal WWII liquor drunk in Alaska and the world
One can't drink glue. You need to make a mixer head (drill and wire is OK) and collect the solid dissolved mass on it. The rest you can drink.
kdmtctl··on Apple Watch with Android
Could be true. But I have no use for more precise and deeper info. I need it only to fight possible anxiety spikes and attribute them to a bad sleep.
kdmtctl··on Solaar is a Linux manager for many Logitech keyboards, mice, and other devices
Beach ball, yes. I've started to call it rainbow cursor 30 years ago on air gapped Macs, and still reluctant to absorb any other names.
kdmtctl··on Apple Watch with Android
Data aside, neither are ideal. I can’t sleep with the Apple Watch because it needs to be charged while I sleep to get through the day, and the Fenix is too heavy for my wrist at night. I use an old Mi Band, which tracks approximate data that suits me.
kdmtctl··on ISO 8583: The language of credit cards
Some smaller banks upload available balances to processors and perform clearing later in a back office only. They just don't have a hook to link a notification and send it only after the actual settlement.
kdmtctl··on Solaar is a Linux manager for many Logitech keyboards, mice, and other devices
I didn’t even check what it could be. I just got the rainbow cursor suddenly on boot, and the process name was enough to instantly uninstall the driver and search for a replacement.
kdmtctl··on Solaar is a Linux manager for many Logitech keyboards, mice, and other devices
I'd love to see this ported to Mac.

Just discovered the bloody AI prompt builder enabled by default in my mouse driver today. After patiently declining input recording permission for months.

Managed to get rid of the most of bloatware using their corporate "Offline" version which supposedly doesn't phone home and doesn't ask for extra permissions. YMMV.

kdmtctl··on How We Centralized and Structured Error Handling in Golang
Anecdotally the color codes make life much easier when debugging a new API. You instantly see that's something is wrong. If everything is green you don't realize that something is wrong until you carefully read a uniquely structured custom response. Saves a lot of effort.
kdmtctl··on How We Centralized and Structured Error Handling in Golang
Need an AI playground to paste error responses and fix the code.
kdmtctl··on Where Is HTTP/3? (2021)
It will be better with a reverse proxy. Decoupling the app and the ingress is always a good practice when you can afford an extra layer. The app itself is sufficient with HTTP/1.1 if the internal network is secure and performant (which it almost always is a container network nowadays).
kdmtctl··on Wishing for a more orderly disruption may misunderstand government reform
He had inherited an empire held together by brute force. When this force weakened, intentionally or due to economics, it fell apart. It is hard to maintain an empire and be humane at the same time. And he wasn’t always, but even that wasn’t enough to keep everyone aligned. In 1991 former fellows tried to correct him but they failed, and he lost both the throne and the country. Yeltsin later betrayed democracy twice plausibly to save it from the restoration. So did other fellow leaders. There was hardly any other possible outcome after that.

This. _Didn't see it therefore it doesn't exist_.
kdmtctl··on The world of tomorrow
Resonates me a lot, I am a decade older though. From my POV it looks like we were overgrown kids but now just getting old.
