One case not mentioned here is families with small children. With 3 little ones, public transportation becomes a real hassle, especially when there is walking to be done on either side. It is by far my top reason for owning a car in the city.

This may be true for mass-market apps, but we have had a lot of success selling high quality, useful, niche-market apps priced $5 and up. The App Store makes it insanely easy for people to buy something that seems useful to them, whereas they would at least think twice before paying for a webapp subscription.

We sell a relatively expensive ($15) niche app. The Android app outsells the iPhone app 2 to 1. (We believe it is due to the fact that there are far fewer high quality niche apps in the Android Market.)
