The tech is different but the purpose is the same - to give a great application experience with software written in JS/html/css, on every platform with a single codebase. Ember is betting on the browser to be the runtime, appjs is writing their own.

I don't think this article could have made rms look better. He increased attendance to an educational event, while protesting a piece of immoral legislation. Everybody wins!

Why did you use mysql rather than postgres? It seems like most of your complaints about mysql are solved in postgres (the query planner is much stronger) and there's some features that seems would fit your team much better

Humiliation is poison in a work environment. There is no quicker way to make people resent their jobs, stop interaction, create hate and mistrust and send a signal that "you don't matter".

I'm confused what the downsides are to using phonegap - Is it a speed thing? Are there features that a native client could use that phonegap can't access? Development is harder? Coming from a web background this seems like a huge boon. Why should I invest the time into learning objective-c/java compared to using phonegap?

Because ember-data supports the rails url scheme with no extra work. It's a little overkill, but they feel that they'll catch more users up front this way.

This strikes me as less an argument for pseudonyms and more an argument for impermanence. It seems to me that the thought experiment is more like putting a mask on, and then yelling your revolutionary ideas, rather than doing it in public and just hoping to not be recognized.

Yes. It absolutely murdered skype. I work with some friends on a project that has weekly meetings, and we've been doing them via phone conference calls. We have simply been unable to find something to handle conference video chats that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Google+ is going to be a major (positive) change in our work flow.

AFAIK strobe is made up mostly of ex-apple people - furthermore, they knew about the "bugs" at least a month ago - Charles Jolley was talking about them at the most recent sproutcore nyc meetup. I don't think it's unreasonable to believe the truth of these assertions.
