... but the numbers suggest otherwise. The last few years there is no increase in production by OPEC countries: http://www.eia.gov/cfapps/ipdbproject/iedindex3.cfm?tid=5&pi...
Of course I'm not pointing fingers or blaming any side, it's just strange to see history is repeating itself all over again. The news about the NASA budget increase was no surprise for me anyway...

I'm a webdeveloper, mainly doing php, and I found a use case for php-fpm and systemd thanks to a blogpost of a friend. Its php-fpm pools ondemand, if you're interested I've written a blogpost about it here: http://thanatos.be/2014/04/12/php-fpm-ondemand.html
I guess It all depends on what your goal is or what you like achieving with your code, but imho systemd has some nice features for developers (and doing fun stuff in general). Also have a look at Joey Hess his blogpost about his systemd alarmclock: http://joeyh.name/blog/entry/a_programmable_alarm_clock_usin...
To be honest I won't use dropbox again, even if Rice quits, since btsync is vastly superior for my use cases.
Imho this is the semi-religious 'vim vs emacs' debate all over again, except this time it's not between equally good pieces of software but a 'systemd is garbage' group against the rest...
I've even had a few people who accidentally signed up for a G+ account ask me how to delete it because they kept receiving 'Top X posts on G+' mails without knowing what it is. I don't think a lot of good things come with this kind of tactic.
A good example of the lack of common sense (imho) is the addon bar. Why do I want an extra bar with 2 or 3 icons? Most people will probably remember the status bar in browsers and they ditched that because it was not needed and you lost valuable screen estate. What was the best solution mozilla could come up with to handle the extension icons? An extra bar in the bottom of your browser. Just implement an omnibar already and put those things there...
If anyone from mozilla is reading this: you've done a great (GREAT!) job at making firefox faster and use less memory, and if you're ever in the neighbourhood I'll buy you a beer. Now please also start thinking about those little things that just don't make any sense.
I have arch linux running now and while arch is not known for it's stability, I have far fewer applications crashing nowadays.
This is one of the best things of php: it's easy enough for new developers and you can grow into the OO aspects of it. While I must admit I would also like a big cleanup to make the function names and arguments more uniform, I don't hope they change anything that makes it harder to begin with php or limit the possibilities to grow.
It's quite shocking how little you _have_ to give employees, but in the end people will not be very happy if you only care about the number of hours spend at the office and not about the person spending them there. Also; things like this are a great way to encourage your employees to think differently and get their creative juices flowing.
As noted in the article: if you wanted a computer in the old days, you put it together yourself. That changed and putting together a new computer yourself is unimaginable (I'm not speaking about assembly of components, but soldering the whole thing). Recently cheap(er) 3D printing, Arduino and the Raspberry Pi put hardware on the table again and I think very interesting times are coming. Think about it, even 2 or 3 years ago 'innovation' on the internet was synonym with software, now it's changing again to hard- and software.
+ nice website
+ app in the screenshot looks nice
? does it show up in the menubar or...? (maybe add a couple of screenshots)
- I can't try before I buy (yes, I've read the 30days/money back but it's still a barrier for most people)
The only problem I see is signup with facebook, to be perfectly honest that's the reason you don't have a user extra (mine). While I do understand the choice, I think you should provide an alternative signup option.
It's also a bit unclear how much I get to keep when a user pays 25cents and how/when the money will reach me, if I would be implementing minno as a payment option I'd like to know...
This is seen as a feature, it's basically a top right growl style notification bubble, but they added an 100px top offset so it wouldn't interfere with other applications. Why? Because the user can not click the notifications away, they have a delay and waiting is the only way to remove those bubbles. This has to be one of the worst decisions ever. Look at growl/OSX, it works. In this case it's fine to copy a feature and not try to be different.
Another thing I absolutely don't understand is all the media/audio frameworks there have been since 4.10 (not really an Ubuntu only problem), why not stick with one that just works? IMHO, Ubuntu should experiment all they want with unity, notify-osd, placing window buttons to the left, ... but please, just provide a basic install option that just works without all the fancy new stuff (that is probably thrown out soon anyway because something else comes up).
Just make it work. Steve Jobs seems to be able to impose decisions on a large group of people, but he also seems to have thought about most things really really well. Lately Ubuntu seems to adopt everything as long as it doesn't look like something everybody else has.
Sorry if I'm ranting, but as an Ubuntu lover the last few years have been a serious disappointment.
It's quite a mess, from my point of view... As a webdeveloper the browser is my toolbox and while I do find firebug superior to the chrome development tools, the other things that caught my attention where not so positive... It feels sluggisch, was using 1.3gig of memory with 6tabs open and crashes frequently. But I do admit it feels like coming home a bit so I'm sticking with it and hoping things will be better in the future. I just hope this will end well for firefox.
If not they can always start developing another lean and fast new browser that will rock our worlds and gain populairy fast and change names a few times... (anyone remember phoenix and firebird?)
I'm a new customer of their service and very happy with the price/quality, but you do have to have a technical background.
I hope you see the point.
Everybody's problem is 'critical', but you just have to accept it doesn't work that way. Everything depends on context, but please think a moment about this: resources are limited, time is precious and getting 'fed up with things' rarely helps. Want to change things? Feel free to look at other issues and see if you find a solution, if you do, fix it and be part of the people who change stuff for the better.
Basically I install dropbox on a linux box, and use apache's mod_vhost_alias to automatically map incoming requests to the correct folder. Most of the time I use sqlite as DB storage so the file stays in the dropbox folder.
When I want to put changes online I just copy/paste the files. Of course this is no way of working when you have bigger sites or sites that have a lot of db changes, but when you get there you better find more suitable hosting then the one I have anyway.
I like this way because the dropbox folder is synced with my netbook and macbook as well, so my setup is quite portable!
It's nice to see Google is trying to do something about it and making it easier to implement an RTE with projects like this, but it would be nicer if they would push other browser builders to standardise.
Some people may like to push a product without giving proper tought to the name/branding but I'm sure it will decrease their chances of success, maybe not a lot, but still. As I see it, today everything is getting more and more connected, a product without a twitter account or facebook page is possible, but imho you're missing out on a great chance to market your product.
After you're done with development, it's getting users/attention that counts, and as it's already pretty hard to do that it's best you take every chance you get, even if it's not much.
