kahrkunne··on India Is Winning Its War on Human Waste
A few thousand loonies on the Internet believing something weird but harmless doesn't weigh up to millions of Indians pooping on the street
kahrkunne··on Backdoor in the firmware of Antminer Bitcoin mining hardware
It's interesting who made /r/btc and why.

It's interest who made this comment and why.

kahrkunne··on The Lowly Folding Chair, Reimagined with Algorithms
Looks really heavy. Also, no back rest. And no pillow, so hard on your butt.

Not a great design if you ask me.

kahrkunne··on The FCC Wants to Eliminate Net Neutrality Protections. We Can't Let That Happen
Yes, are you sure you understand what the legal situation for the Internet is under the current US system? I'm all for net neutrality, but NOT the way it'd being done now.
kahrkunne··on Fusion reactors: Not what they’re cracked up to be
More power to desert people! What a great idea!
kahrkunne··on The FCC Wants to Eliminate Net Neutrality Protections. We Can't Let That Happen
The US net neutrality system is a fast track to government regulation of the Internet. If you want to keep the Internet free, oppose it.
kahrkunne··on The fading American dream: Trends in absolute income mobility since 1940
Ah yes, the good old "let's steal from others", because that has worked so well in the past (but it's okay because it wasn't real communism so you try again and your retarded system fails but it's okay because it wasn't real communism so...)
kahrkunne··on Japanese Education: Amae, Stress, and Perseverence
The stoics said similar things
kahrkunne··on Ask HN: What project can I start in my free time to make some side-cash?
'The average salary for a Software Engineer is €41,227 per year.'

Not everybody is American, you know

kahrkunne··on LSD microdoses make people feel sharper, and scientists want to know how
I don't know about other countries but at least here in the Netherlands, yes you can.
kahrkunne··on LSD microdoses make people feel sharper, and scientists want to know how
>Every stimulator drug always backfires

I'm gonna need you to back up that claim, because as far as I can see the positive contribution of coffee to society is pretty well-understood

kahrkunne··on Ask HN: How has volunteering helped you grow?
I think people tend not to think of editing Wikipedia as a long term time investment. YouTube videos don't feel like volunteering to me because more often than not it's a job. And open source development probably just wouldn't occur to most people because most people aren't developers.
kahrkunne··on Websites people say have changed their lives
I'd say 4chan probably changed my life the most. Not only did it have a big influence on my tastes to this day, it also (indirectly) introduced me to some of my best friends and taught me a lot of social skills
kahrkunne··on South Korea’s deployment of THAAD upsets China, seen as espionage tool
Good, let them fight each other instead of us and our allies.
kahrkunne··on The first woman to finish the Boston Marathon in 1967 has run it again at age 70
I disagree with most of these, but I'll pick on one in particular: the death penalty.

I think, or at least hope, the usage of the death penalty will increase. Some people definitely can't be rehabilitated, and life imprisonment is an inhumane and cruel punishment.

kahrkunne··on Minecraft Set to Launch Its Own Currency
A friend of mine used to develop for minecraft servers essentially professionally. Getting paid $100 for an hour's worth of work was not too uncommon. Back then they typically paid on a project basis, though.
kahrkunne··on Microdosing: People taking LSD with breakfast
I'm pretty sure that a nomadic lifestyle, massive technological disadvantage and vulnerability to pathogens played a bigger role in that than psychedelics, but feel free to prove me wrong if you have a credible source on what you are implying.
kahrkunne··on Ask HN: What are the 3 websites you visit every single day?
4chan.org

reddit.com

youtube.com

Not the most interesting reply, I know

kahrkunne··on Microdosing: People taking LSD with breakfast
I'm gonna need a source on your claim that psychedelics attract foreign invaders with smallpox
kahrkunne··on A world without retirement?
It's the opposite, rather. People retiring to those countries go there with lots of cash, spend it, then die. It's like tourism for the rest of your life.
kahrkunne··on FBI arrests author of NanoCore after it was pirated and abused by hackers
If the printed money is identical? No, you'd be treated the same for both.

If you're talking about different bills then your analogy obviously doesn't apply.

kahrkunne··on How to write Common Lisp in 2017 – an initiation manual
It might be annoying but it probably wouldn't be an "obstacle", especially considering things like evil-mode exist.

That's how it went for me, anyways. From vim user to trying Emacs because it has some feature that I need to becoming a full-time Emacs users with evil-mode

kahrkunne··on Twitch to start selling video games this week
Just FYI, I've had both out of order delivery and duplicate messages happen semi-recently. Duplicates are far more rare than they were, though.
kahrkunne··on How to write Common Lisp in 2017 – an initiation manual
But it has many other problems.
kahrkunne··on How to write Common Lisp in 2017 – an initiation manual
Honestly I don't think Emacs is an obstacle to people who use Vim. It's an obstacle to people who use IDEs
kahrkunne··on Thousands of underground gas bubbles poised to 'explode' in Arctic
Is there way to harvest these? We could burn the gas for a lot of energy, and the CO2 released would be a lot less bad than the methane.
kahrkunne··on The ‘Terminator’ of startups says he’s seeing two to four wind-downs a week
No, it doesn't. $0.78 per person per hour is a lot of money; 10% of minimum wage. Ofc you're not paying people minimum wage but it's still a nontrivial amount
kahrkunne··on Should Parents of Children with Severe Disabilities Be Allowed to Stop Growth?
Fucking hell no. This is one of the most atrocious things I've read in a long time. It's deeply unethical, immoral, and a massive violation of bodily integrity.

It's horrible and shocking that this is allowed.

kahrkunne··on Is Facebook a Structural Threat to Free Society?
I mean, somebody has to consume all that entertainment (which you call "mindless")

We can't all be creators

kahrkunne··on Venezuela Is Falling Apart. Scenes from daily life in the failing state
But it's OK because real(tm) socialism has never been tried

And the cycle continues...
