jzig··on Floppy Disk Repair Co
It’s a speakeasy in Texas, although not very clear from the website.
jzig··on Features I wish PostgreSQL had as a developer
I find this interesting! Is there anything similar in the open source world? I have built projects with Supabase in the past and one of my gripes about it is that it becomes obnoxious to track what happens to the schema over time in version control with dozens of migration files. For example, you have no idea what the current state of a table or trigger is because there might be several updates that occured over four dozen migration files and you may not even be sure which files those changes are in. You have to just look at the database directly rather than the code.

Don’t .NET and Rails do all those things?

Very cool. Thank you!

Feature request: a browser extension that intercepts HTTP requests for any given website (instead of localhost) and documents their API :)

To stay DRY, naturally ;)
jzig··on Gumroad no longer allows most NSFW art, leaving its adult creators panicked
Aren’t there payment processors that allow adult content? Makes me wonder why a platform like Gumroad couldn’t just use a different processor for customers that mark themselves as NSFW.
jzig··on Ask an Algo Dev – 6 HRT quants answer common questions about their role [video]
I wonder if any developers over the age of 25 work there?
jzig··on Launch HN: Zenfetch (YC W23) – Turn notes/browser history into an AI assistant
Hi Gabe, I used to work with you when you interned at APL on BSP! I'm glad to see you are doing great things and wish you the best of luck. This is an interesting product that I think has a lot of promise as a "pensieve" a la Harry Potter. Let me know when you start hiring :)
jzig··on How to Replace Your CPAP in Only 666 Days
Buying/Selling medical devices is illegal so you won’t find any reliable website or marketplace. You can sometimes find people trying to get rid of one (for free or for sale) on /r/cpap and /r/cpap_swap

Most of the time you have go through a sleep study to get one. I got very lucky during the pandemic and my allergist ordered one (no sleep study) after explaining that I was waiting months for a sleep study and having suicidal ideation from weeks of waking up every ~15min.

jzig··on How to Replace Your CPAP in Only 666 Days
Not at all. You can figure out how to configure one yourself with a few hours reading on /r/CPAP or watching YouTube. Source: myself after trying to acquire one and get it configured for months through a similar bureaucratic nightmare as the article.
jzig··on Vanna.ai: Chat with your SQL database
Supabase already has an AI feature which queries your database for you [0]

Yeah Garmin is about the most open, and maybe even more specifically anything that uses their ANT protocol (like Polar HR monitors).
jzig··on A Node, TypeScript, TS-Node and ESM experience that works
I've been curious about using Bun. Could you point to an example of something like Node backend code that's written in TS using Bun?

jzig··on The Average New EV Costs $14,000 Less Than It Did a Year Ago: KBB
Sort of baited you. I drive a Prius. Great, I’ve gone 45 to 35 mpg :)

I will laugh my way to the bank with my ten year old Toyota that has only required oil changes!
jzig··on What SWE job hunting is like right now
St. Louis is a wasteland if you’re looking for more modern software jobs. And the employers haven’t learned their lesson. You can though, by looking for remote work.
jzig··on PostgresJs: PostgreSQL client for Node.js and Deno
I wonder if this (or Zapatos) could replace Supabase’s postgrest-js, or how it compares.
jzig··on Svelte 5: Runes
Everyone comparing to React but this looks similar to RxJS Observables as well. Don't leave out us Angular folks!
jzig··on Solar
It’s too bad they wouldn’t let you learn on the job!
jzig··on Searching for “notepad” on DuckDuckGo yields zero results
Yep they need to escape every character in the string not just the plus signs
jzig··on Searching for “notepad” on DuckDuckGo yields zero results
If you set a breakpoint there, the value it is trying to replace is "Notepad++" rather than "notepad", gotten from the Heading of "http://www.notepad-plus-plus.org" further up in the logic chain. Looks like the plus signs are incorrectly being added to the RegEx
jzig··on Things I wish I knew before moving 50K lines of code to React Server Components
And yet Angular is now the less complicated framework and easier to work with (IMO).
jzig··on Things you forgot (or never knew) because of React
I find Angular much easier to reason about than the current state of React/Next. Which is funny because the biggest criticism of Angular years ago was its learning curve. Yet React seems to have become even more convoluted.
