jyxent··on Musk’s Tesla Fun Does Not Amuse SEC
Isn't the chairman position just part of the board of directors? I think he would have still been CEO with the agreement. If the SEC wins now, he won't be able to serve as CEO.

CIRA has had DNSSEC support since 2014. https://cira.ca/dnssec-faqs

I use Google Domains and it supports DNSSEC on my .ca domains.

jyxent··on Building a 32-Thread Xeon Monster PC for Cheaper Than a Haswell-E Core I7
Ended up getting a used Supermicro X9DAi from eBay.

Edit: Should mention that Supermicro has proprietary ATX/E-ATX motherboards. I went for them because I thought it would just work with an E-ATX case, but I ended up drilling 5 or 6 holes in my case for the standoffs.

My motherboard, RAM, and processors were all used. I wasn't concerned too much about the RAM or processors, but I've seen a lot of posts about people getting bent CPU pins on used motherboards. Luckily, everything was working for me when I got it.

I was initially considering a new Xeon E3 system, because I wanted to have ECC memory, but the price on these used components had a significantly better price/performance ratio. Whenever I decide to update to a new system, I'll be looking at something like this again before I consider something new.

I built a workstation using 2 E5-2670s about a month ago. I'm pretty happy with it so far. I did need to repin to get the second EPS connector on my power supply, but my power supply wattage was overkill otherwise.

One nice thing is that DDR3 ECC RAM is extremely cheap. I bought 32GB of RAM for $60, and have since seen 64GB for $85.

Also, it will boost to 3GHz on all cores at once, as long as it stays cool enough.

jyxent··on Samsung unveils 2.5-inch 16TB SSD
I found a paper from 2013 that compares storage densities up to 2012:

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/articleDetails.jsp?arnumber=6...

In 2012 they list the density of magnetic disks as 750 Gb/in^2 and nand flash as 550 Gb/in^2. I'm not sure how the numbers have changed with 2d nand, but 3d nand probably pushes the density way over magnetic.

jyxent··on Rust vs. C++ Benchmark Game
As pointed out in the reddit thread, this may be more a measure of the llvm backend used by rust to the gcc backend. A more accurate comparison would be against clang.
jyxent··on Reddit CEO Calls Out Former Reddit Employee on Reddit
I live in Alberta, Canada. The Personal Information Protection Act governs the use of personal information by the private sector. Companies are allowed to give references when asked, but I believe public posts such as these would be illegal under the act.

Even giving references can be an issue. The law states that the company must make an effort to make sure the information is accurate and complete. For subjective measurements, there may be argument over what is accurate. When my father was working, their lawyers recommended they not give any information other than confirming employment dates and duties for references.

Is this legal? Where I live, I'm pretty sure this kind of public disclosure isn't allowed due to privacy laws.
jyxent··on The New Motorola Moto X (2nd Gen) Review
While the battery may be good enough for one day, they are falling behind other brands in terms of battery life. Last year, they released the Droid Maxx on Verizon, which is functionally equivalent to the Moto X, but with a much larger 3500mah battery. I don't know why they don't do the same thing with the Moto X and release two versions of it.
