jxm262··on ESP32-S31: Dual-Core RISC-V SoC with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and Advanced HMI
S3 was just for me to do an initial prototype. Longer term was going to try with the C3, though I'm open to suggestions :)
jxm262··on ESP32-S31: Dual-Core RISC-V SoC with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and Advanced HMI
Perfect timing. I just started planning to build a DIY smartwatch and was looking into the S3. Having native zigbee support could be nice.
jxm262··on Arduino published updated terms and conditions: no longer an open commons
Same :) I haven't touched electronics since college and the Uno was pretty cheap. No regrets though, just want to hack and learn on something.
jxm262··on Understanding the Origins and the Evolution of Vi and Vim
Same here. Tbh, you're comment just inspired to do a deep dive on VI. Wonder how much more productivity I can squeeze out if I spend an weekend focused on it.
jxm262··on Show HN: DeepSeek Your HN Profile
This is awesome!! Seems to know me better than myself:)
jxm262··on Japan stocks plunge as much as 7% as Asia shares extend sell-off
This matches my understanding. An article explaining this a bit.

Things are not looking good right now. Korean markets already hit the circuit breakers tonight.

jxm262··on Learning DNS in 10 Years
Thanks for the link, just did a quick skim through. Replying so I remember to circle back and read in depth.

Between this and all the posts from Tailscale, my networking knowledge (my weakest area) will hopefully expand quite a bit.

jxm262··on Coinbase cuts staff by a further 20%
I've always thought this to be the case. Coinbase and Kraken will be the dominant US players (imho).
jxm262··on Ask HN: I'm 40 and feel my mental ability declining. Programming seems harder.
I'm 38 and just wanted to comment my experience matches your comment here. I'm probably 20x or more productive now than I was when I first started. Experience does indeed help productivity (to a point).
jxm262··on What’s in a PR statement: LastPass breach explained
This is absolutely great. Thanks for sharing!
jxm262··on The Rise of the Non-Working Class
Tbh I didn't even know the source was a deeply conservative website.

That said, the article is just a discussion with an author. Not seeing how this falls under misinformation here, but maybe I'm misguided ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

jxm262··on The Rise of the Non-Working Class
I'm confused why this would be flagged? At the time of my post here, there's 71 comments in < 2 hours. It's obviously a discussion point for folks here.

What did part of the submission guidelines does this article go against?

Curious for future submissions myself

jxm262··on How do you break into a career in machine learning? (2020)
Thanks for sharing your input here.
jxm262··on How to learn hard things in tech
I don't even work nor have much interest in ASP.NET Core , but I just starred your repo and plan to read through it.

First time I've seen such a well put together list of code samples for a language. Would love this in other languages

jxm262··on How do you break into a career in machine learning? (2020)
This is literally opposite of me. Would you mind elaborating a bit on the negatives of working on the ML side of things?

Definitely not saying your wrong or that it's better than backend dev (it's probably just personal preference). But as someone considering it, I'd like to hear the good and bad of each type of role.

jxm262··on Ask HN: Does anybody still use bookmarking services?
Ive never even considered something like this before, but its genius!

The offline caching sounds awesome.

Thanks for sharing

jxm262··on You can create a great looking website while sucking at design
Apologies, just scrolled down and read some other comments. Means Information Architecture
jxm262··on You can create a great looking website while sucking at design
Sorry im new to design and not familiar with the acronyms. What does IA mean in this context?
jxm262··on How to Walk (12 miles a day)
I've been taking a walk every day since covid. Part of my daily routine now, early as soon as the sun comes up. It's usuallly 30(ish) mins, but your comment just made me change tomorrow's time to 90 mins.

Just wanted to say thanks, ill seriously give this a try.

jxm262··on Measurement of the W boson mass reveals 7σ deviation from calculations
oh wow, thanks for pointing this out :)
jxm262··on How Zillow's homebuying scheme lost $881M
Hey thanks for this!
jxm262··on How Zillow's homebuying scheme lost $881M
Im genuinely curious to read more on this. Know of a source for that number or some resources I can try to research on the topic? I just mostly see people reaching for conclusions but see very little data to back it up.
jxm262··on How much do founders pay themselves? A European data set
never heard this before, but that makes perfect sense. thanks for sharing
jxm262··on Ask HN: What do you do to jump start your brain in the morning?
This was a game changer for me as well. Set my alarm to go to sleep, not to wake up (though i set that too in case i accidentally oversleep on an important day)

I find my body gets into a natural rythm. And 8 hours of solid sleep makes my mornings so much more productive.

jxm262··on Poll: What does “Full Stack” mean?
^ bingo. This is exactly how it's framed in my mind. Mostly it's the same work (In concept. Though it's infinitely more complicated now), just the verbage has changed.
jxm262··on The unreasonable effectiveness of just showing up everyday
> creativity comes in bursts and you don't know when it's going to show up so you need to be the one showing up every day to work on it.

This comment right here adds alot of clarity for me. When worded this way, it makes total sense why this is so effective.

jxm262··on Ask HN: Co-founder wants me to leave but won't entertain a buy out offer
This is pretty interesting to read through. I'm aware of a thing called "ERISA" , where (I think) there's law forbidding termination before vesting (retirement funds though).

Are there any similar legal protections in place to prevent termination based _solely_ on equity vesting?

And to all the comments here saying to just walk away and keep your peace; ie - just take it as a learning lesson. Which learning lesson is that exactly? Sounds to me like this is a pretty typical situation we engineers can get ourselves into. What other protections (learning lessons) could they have done to mitigate what's happening here?

jxm262··on Ask HN: Co-founder wants me to leave but won't entertain a buy out offer
Think I got mine around 500, iirc
jxm262··on Show HN: After 2.5 years on my side project, it has hit £500/month revenue
This is a brilliant perspective. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
jxm262··on Show HN: After 2.5 years on my side project, it has hit £500/month revenue
Congrats! Posts like this give me massive inspiration. Like many here, I have tons of side project/toy apps stored in private repo's; that will probably never see use by anyone other than myself. However, some of this code _does_ make me profit (trading bots). Been contemplating taking portions of my trading app and generalizing into a product, but always seem to lose motivation.

Glad I saw this post + thread today, y'all just gave me another boost of energy.
