jwho82··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2020 – Show and tell
Thanks.

I originally created the site back in 2011 mostly just freshen up my PHP skills, and I needed a way to keep track of my work hours. It was just a basic free to use timesheet tool for for around 4 years. It was super ugly but it was still getting people signing up but only a handful would stick around.

I decided rebuild it all and launch it was a proper SaaS in 2015.

If I had to start over today, I'm not sure what I would do. I just like to build things I would use. I'd try to find an existing tool and see if I it's something I feel I could do better.

It's been something I've been wanting do but it keeps getting pushed back. Our App needs a major update first I think and then support for QB would be next.

https://logmyhours.com - Time Tracking & Invoicing Software. Floating around the 1K mark. Been stuck here for a bit, struggling to get any more traction.
jwho82··on Ask HN: What tools/methods do you use to focus your time well?
I use my own time tracking tool (https://logmyhours.com) along with rescuetime.com to make sure I'm keeping focused. I can actually tie my timesheets right into rescue time to see how productive I was during the time period.

Ive been using clubhouse.io recently to help me keep my many todos a bit more organized.

I want to try to plan out my day the night before, but that almost never happens.

jwho82··on I was wrong about the iPad Pro
I love my little Surface Go, using it to write this reply now! I hope they release a new one this year with a better CPU, and with WSL2 right around the corner, it'll be the perfect tool for coding on the go.

Ah. Good to know :). Cheers
jwho82··on List of Tools for Bootstrappers
For sure! It's a great way to discover new tools.

Yeah good to know. I don't do a lot of writing, so always trying to improve. Cheers

jwho82··on List of Tools for Bootstrappers
There was only 2 affiliate links, the other was for rescue time, but I have removed them both.

Blog planner is just a small tool I made on the side. But yeah, I should point that out. Thanks for the feedback!

jwho82··on List of Tools for Bootstrappers
I've only used it for working with Ionic, so I can only give feedback on that. I updated the text to point that out.
jwho82··on List of Tools for Bootstrappers
Fixed with a normal link :).
jwho82··on List of Tools for Bootstrappers
Should I post it as a normal post then?
jwho82··on Ask HN: What was your experience moving from Xamarin to native iOS/Android
You could always look into Ionic. Version 4 just released recently and looks promising. Always nice to have 1 codebase for both mobile devices.
jwho82··on Ask HN: Should we shut down our SAAS?
logmyhours.com - I'm happy with it so far though, it's something I've built for myself (I log all my hours working on it) and 100% on my own and has been a great learning experience. But it is getting harder and harder to work after work.

I love that I get to chat with customers and see what really are their pain points (something devs rarely ever get to do).

If I can double the MRR and relocate outside of Vancouver, I can most likely go full-time.

jwho82··on Ask HN: Should we shut down our SAAS?
I've been working on my own Time Tracking tool since 2015 as a side project. I've managed to break 1k MMR. The competition is just insane. Every day I discover a couple new time tracking tools, and every one of them looks better than the last one. I've actually started exploring other SaaS ideas on the side (nothing too serious yet though).

Ads really suck at our pricing point. Google & Bing are $5+ CPC for most of the main time tracking keywords. Facebook ads were horrible from my experience (and none of the other major time tracking tools are running them).

I don't really have any advice, but do want to wish you the best of luck!

* Log My Hours (https://logmyhours.com)

* Time Tracking, Invoicing, Expenses & Team Management

* Launched, 1k+ MRR

* Rebuild landing pages, working on a fun new feature, and hopefully start rebuilding our mobile app

jwho82··on Ask HN: What stack you use to build websites?
LAMP with Symfony. Ionic for mobile dev.
jwho82··on Ask HN: Those starting new side projects in 2018 – Show and tell
https://blog-planner.com - A very very simple tool to help me write blog articles. You can break the article down into topics. Also wanted to play with Symfony 4, try out Webpack, and test some better continuous integration.

logmyproperties.com - Empty atm. Going to be some kind of simple property management tool, to help me manage my rental property, track expenses and create reports for taxes.

jwho82··on Ask HN: What are you hacking these holidays?
Picking away at Symfony 4, Ionic 3 and finishing up some Quickbooks integrations with my time tracking SaaS.
jwho82··on Ask HN: What’s your list of sideprojects?
https://logmyhours.com - Time Tracking & Invoicing. Hoping this one will replace my full-time job in 2018.
jwho82··on Ask HN: What are you learning right now?
Angular 4 for Ionic 3. A little bit of VueJS on the side and hoping to start working on my Cantonese again.
jwho82··on Ask HN: Those making $500+/month on side projects in 2017 – Show and tell
Launched https://logmyhours.com 2 years ago. Hour tracking and invoicing. I actually log all my hours working on it :). Launched an iOS and Android app last year that syncs up with the website.

Currently making over $700/month and growing. Hoping to go full time on it early next year.

jwho82··on Ask HN: Invoicing for contractors
I built my own time tracking tool (https://logmyhours.com) for tracking my time and creating invoices for any side freelancing I was doing. I'm actually hoping to go full time on this in the next 6-12 months.

I use a bit of Trello and Freedcamp for my todos and planning.

I also use RescueTime to make sure I'm keeping productive. I'm actually exploring adding integrations with RescueTime with LogMyHours, to see how productive you were for each timesheet, and reporting period.

jwho82··on Ask HN: Freelance Management Services/Apps
I run my own time tracking tool over at https://logmyhours.com - great for both freelancers and small teams! Built in invoicing tools, report exporting and mobile app for both Android and iOS.

If Log My Hours is missing a feature you need, reach out and I'll be happy to help :).

jwho82··on What are the worst parts of PHP?
What are you mostly working with these days? I really need to branch out from PHP...
jwho82··on Ask HN: What's your most profitable side project?
Did a bit of Bing Ads last year (Had much better results than Adwords and Facebook Ads). Nothing really now, mostly just working away at new features and making improvements.
jwho82··on Ask HN: What's your most profitable side project?
https://logmyhours.com - Time tracking and invoicing. My only side project ATM. Doubled the revenue from Jan already. Hoping to go full time next year!
jwho82··on Ask HN: What SaaS customer service tools does your startup use?
Using Tidio Chat. Seems okay so far. - http://tidiochat.com

Edit: Misread the question.

jwho82··on Ask HN: What is your side project?
Cheaper than most of the competition, easy to use, and epic customer service (Doesn't everyone say this though?).

Basically I reach out to every new user to see if LMH is working out for them, and if there's anything missing or any challenges they might have encountered. I had one user with a few employees that was looking to switch over from one of our big competitors, and he really needed timesheet tags and timesheet approval & locking. I managed to build most of the timesheet tagging while in China on holidays :) and had the locking/approval system in later that week.

I have a few more exciting things I want to do once most of the main features have been built and I'm working full time on this. Currently doing around 20 hours a week.

jwho82··on Ask HN: What is your side project?
Bit slow at first, but doing pretty good now. Been maintaining around 10% growth MoM since Jan 2015. This month has been awesome though, almost doubled last month's revenue!
jwho82··on Ask HN: What is your side project?
https://logmyhours.com Time tracking, invoicing, project & employee management. Launched it in Aug 2015, and launched the app last Aug. Hoping to go full time in the next 12 months if things work out.
