jwblackwell··on Gpt4free repo given takedown notice by OpenAI
Good on OpenAI
jwblackwell··on Ask HN: How would you build a ChatGPT detector?
Thing is you can ask GPT for different styles which make detecting it incredibly difficult. Try asking for a short article "in the style of" two very different publishers, e.g. Fox News and The Economist.

Sorry! Had to quickly tweak some backend limits because my api credits are almost out

I agree file upload would be great. I almost added before launch, but figured it would take a while to do properly. I'll try and monetize it a bit this week as the bills are getting high quickly, this can probably be a paid feature.

I will be adding an API and some integrations. Please register a free account now and I'll send out an email when it's ready: https://quizgecko.com/register

Yeah, sometimes the site can't be scraped. Best to copy and paste for now if that happens. I'll try make the scraping more reliable soon
jwblackwell··on Show HN: Generate quiz questions using AI
Did you give it a try?
jwblackwell··on Show HN: Generate quiz questions using AI
Yeah some integrations with learning management systems are on the cards.

This has blown up more than expected. Thanks, everyone.

I will unfortunately have to put a restriction in place though as I am going to exhaust my OpenAI quota. I am waiting for them to approve an increase.

Please follow me on Twitter and register an account on the site for updates. I'll give the first 100 or so users extra free credits in the future

Hit a rate limit, should be working again but I will have to limit access to non logged in accounts as this has blown up

Quizgecko gives you the answers as well ;)

Thanks. You can enter a Wikipedia URL in already! Just hit the URL tab at the top.

I will keep it free for occasional users. The GPT3 bill will need to be paid, though, so if there's demand, I'll add a paid tier.

Thanks! It’s very much a first pass but surprisingly effective.

I have a few ideas to improve quality. Fine tuning for example

jwblackwell··on Stripe has decided to nuke my entire business
It’s becoming increasingly clear that we cannot rely on big centralized payment processors. First it was PayPal, now it’s Stripe.

I know HN has a natural dislike to anything crypto, but I really hope crypto can eventually bypass this bullshit

jwblackwell··on My First Impressions of Web3
Yeah I read the article more as a list of valid suggestions for a nascent industry. Not an attempt to suggest that crypto is going to disappear entirely.
jwblackwell··on My First Impressions of Web3
There's a huge amount happening in the crypto space beyond NFTs.

The article focuses on that area, which is fine, as they were the flavour of 2021, but it's worth keeping in mind that very few techies in the space saw the NFT hype train coming, Vitalik included: https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/147740467160615321... so it's probably to be expected that a lot of the hacky, centralized fixes pointed out relate to NFTs.

jwblackwell··on My First Impressions of Web3
> People don’t want to run their own servers, and never will

If only 0.01% of the population ever run a node / mine, isn't that still infinitely better than what we have now? Especially so when money is involved.

The current alternative is 100% centralized. In other words, it's 1 DB vs ~700,000 or 1 company vs 700k individuals etc.

jwblackwell··on Mozilla Foundation pausing cryptocurrency donations
At this point, Mozilla is basically irrelevant anyway
jwblackwell··on Keep the web free, say no to Web3
> Personally, I'm curious to see a project like Mastodon or Peertube fund itself using a token

Agreed. Most of the people criticizing Web3 are underestimating the power introducing token incentives will have. "Ordinary people" just don't care enough about decentralization of data for projects like Mastodon to take off otherwise. They've been around for a while, and they're not competing with Big Tech. A Web3 platform that rewards successful content creators natively with a token and not hearts/likes might though.

jwblackwell··on Keep the web free, say no to Web3
The article raises some valid concerns, all of which can be addressed.

What it doesn’t do though is propose any sort of solution.

jwblackwell··on Tracking Covid-19 variant B.1.1.529
The number of cases in South Africa before this was very low as well, there aren’t many other cases of delta to compete with
jwblackwell··on Tracking Covid-19 variant B.1.1.529
Keep in mind that South Africa is currently pausing shipments of vaccines because there’s not enough demand for them.

I’m not saying that vaccine availability isn’t a problem anywhere in the emerging world but it’s not the only issue.

jwblackwell··on The City of London Is Hiding the World’s Stolen Money
Capital controls would no doubt lead to a flood of money into Bitcoin
jwblackwell··on SafeDollar ‘stablecoin’ drops to $0 following DeFi exploit on Polygon
> it's rare for gigantic new flaws to emerge

There are countless instances of rouge traders, high level financial crime and corruption.

Wirecard is one recent example costing billions. The Libor scandal another that comes to mind.

jwblackwell··on Andreessen Horowitz starts a $2.2B crypto fund for ‘all weather’ markets
This seems to be assuming that all tokens do not generate any income and serve no other purpose other than speculation. In the case of many Polkadot, that is not the case. The tokens are more analogous to a stock.

jwblackwell··on When Bitcoin miners take over a town (2018)
> Bitcoin solves a problem for almost nobody

This is a very Western centric view. Also, I live in the west and see Bitcoin as a good alternative store of wealth.

jwblackwell··on When Bitcoin miners take over a town (2018)
Can you elaborate more? It seems to be that a lot of very smart people think the opposite and are investing huge time and money in it
