jv22222··on Show HN: Breadcrumb, record everything on your mac + context manager for AI
I think it's going to be the UI to manage your data as that will bring higher value to existing users. I'll make that surface in HTML which will enable porting to be easier.
jv22222··on Show HN: Breadcrumb, record everything on your mac + context manager for AI
The plan is to port it to windows and linux. The architecture is already there.

I need to decide between building a UI editor for moments, memories and meetings OR the port to windows/linux work.

What do you think I should work on first? (Asking everyone actually!)

jv22222··on Show HN: Breadcrumb, record everything on your mac + context manager for AI
While they do technically ride every request, they're cached in all good clients, so usually pretty cheap. Also Claude Code just loads names and defers the full definitions until it thinks it needs one.

Hahaha

What a rookie mistake!

jv22222··on Plan mode is dead
I think over time more and more will be peeled back to just the model and markdown. I have a beautiful factory running with key personas all it is is a few markdown files it is building a mac app fantastically well.

jv22222··on Show HN: Lossless-memory – a personal AI memory that never summarizes
It’s not in there yet, but there will be a lot of data management options. It just hasn’t existed long enough yet for it to cause the storage problem for anyone but that’s something I’m going to get too real quick.
jv22222··on Show HN: Lossless-memory – a personal AI memory that never summarizes
Fair enough I will try to unlock download in next few days.

I guess I'll do a Show HN too but I really wanted a few more users before that but yolo.

jv22222··on Show HN: Lossless-memory – a personal AI memory that never summarizes
Its working pretty well to be honest! here’s some more background :)

jv22222··on Show HN: Lightspeed, build real time apps the Laravel way (+asteroids demo)
They're on the idle screen under the title, but easy to miss: space (or W / up) to fly and fire, one key does both, A D (or arrows) to turn, S for shield. On a phone, turn it sideways and tap to fly.
jv22222··on Show HN: Lossless-memory – a personal AI memory that never summarizes
Oh cool. I'm working on exactly that here!

jv22222··on Show HN: Lightspeed, build real time apps the Laravel way (+asteroids demo)
It doesn't! Livewire is a way to build UI/form interactions over http/js.

Lightspeed is a websocket server.

Livewire talks to the server over normal HTTP requests and for anything pushed from the server it uses Laravel Echo. Lightspeed is a Pusher-compatible server so you'd point Echo at it like you would Reverb.

The thing Lightspeed adds is letting the browser send messages back into Laravel over that same socket, with auth on each one. Livewire doesn't do that its actions are still HTTP.

For most applications Livewire would be the goto. Lightspeed is kind of a high speed specialist option for building real time apps like you might do with node.js for exmaple.

> I can't really think of a single example where lying is actually a good thing

Comforting a toddler/child often requires bending the truth and is pretty essential imho.

jv22222··on Show HN: Screen memory without screenshots, just text to Markdown
Nice constraint. I've been building in this space for a while now and the lossiness question is a real one. The accessibility tree works for a lot of things but the more I worked on it the more stuff I found needed pixels.

YMMV.

> 6.90 CHF - locks your Mac's keyboard, trackpad and mouse and shows a black screen while you clean. Free 7-day trial.

> 4.90 CHF - opens macOS's color loupe on any pixel on screen and instantly copies its HEX, RGB or HSL code to the clipboard. History of your last 8 colors, with a real magnifier that zooms into pixels. Free 7-day trial.

That's weird that the more techy thing is cheaper.

> Going forward, I won’t be using AI in this way to create any more web stuff, and I do not use it to anything close to this extent on iOS software.

'comon now, let's not throw out the baby with the bath water.

That's a bit of an scorched earth extreme response imho.

jv22222··on Devtools must be open source
Conversely, software that is not open source, but that has a really good API and SDK (like obsidian) is also very easy for your agent to do anything it wants with.

This gives the end user all the customization they need and gives a company like obsidian the capability to have a little bit of secret source in today’s day and age.

jv22222··on Severance
I've been in a few meetings like this. In all cases it was because they, as business leaders, were not able to run a profitable company.

That's the most irritating part.

jv22222··on It's not empowering to hand off the details
Agree.

Creating products with AI is like creating a tightly packed ball of wool. Then, to try to understand what happened you have to somehow pick a strand and pull it out to have a look. Very difficult with tightly packed wool.

I've run some experiments in the past month that get me closer to being able to work with this opaque bundle.

It's the main thing I think about every day, how to solve this problem.

jv22222··on Terence Tao's ChatGPT conversation about the Jacobian Conjecture counterexample
Came to say the same thing. Experts in any field have a huge unlock from AI.
jv22222··on John C. Dvorak has died
Nooooo! Sigh. RIP JCD :(

I was very lucky to get a chance to interview him on our podcast back in 2010 [1]. He of course was very funny and insightful.

So kind of him to even come on our unknown show.

I used to love listening to him in early No Agenda [2] talking about his takes on all sorts of worldly things especially fine dining, spices, and all the famous people he'd had run-ins with.

Yeah, I have been thinking exactly the same. Makes all the sense in the world and is inevitable as far as I can see.

You should be able to fix this by playing with the mic speech floor. It happens when to much ambient stuff slurps in.

It's actually gaslighting you, you don't say that many ums and ahs ;)

jv22222··on Show HN: Docket (system for active note-taking) now self-hosted after HN asked
Nice work on making a self hosted version I think that kind of privacy is something a lot of people want these days.

jv22222··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (July 2026)
I'm working on a Mac OS memory app for AI. Not quite ready to share the link, but just wanted to put the periscope above the water.
jv22222··on Why Vanilla JavaScript
4 years doing this before AI. Then I felt my tool was not quite right for the AI environment. Now I'm building something else with AI.
jv22222··on Why write code in 2026
This is weird but I think I like to focus wherever I feel needs polish.

So, making a real time collaborative tool from scratch there was a lot of deep work in things like sockets, queues, memory structures, etc. That's just what needed attention.

Right now I'm building a memory app for AI.

So far I haven't spent much time looking at code on the swift side of things. But I have spent a lot of time up front working on domain driven design, screaming architecture, and module based design.

I think with AI the polish is in deep QA, design taste, running trace logs and constantly asking it to do html diagrams of the architecture and such.

ngl I miss "knowing what's going on" at the code level, but it feels like not a good use of my time to go into those weeds.

When I look at the code it seems well structured due to screaming architecture, and module based design.

jv22222··on Why write code in 2026
At this point I haven't looked at code for many months. Before that, I spent 4 years hand coding a Google Docs competitor in JS without any libraries.

My brain feels equally as exercised (in fact more so as I am not as good at agentic coding as I was at real coding)

But now I'm making highly polished Mac OS apps and I really like that move from JS.

I feel... conflicted.

Ah. My bad. I didn't review them I was just paying more attention to the op asking for a list of open source ones.
