justindeguzman··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours? (2022 edition)
I've been using clickhouse-local (the CLI tool, not the database) a lot recently to do data analysis work. It's simpler/better developer experience when using local files for quick data analysis compared to writing python scripts. As someone who does a lot of data science and is not a software engineer, it feels more natural to write SQL vs. having to write actual code–and it's super fast...

After you create an account or click "continue without an account", all errors/crash reporting can be turned off from the Settings page. In the future, we'll add an option to turn this off in the initial page.

We <3 PlanetScale. If we have some data types that aren't showing up for you, please let me know at justin at arctype.com, we'll get those fixed asap!
justindeguzman··on Show HN: Arctype, a cross-platform database GUI for developers and teams
We started building the app about two years ago where these frameworks were a lot less mature (and I still think Electron is the most battle-tested today). If we were to start over, I'd definitely consider Tauri or using Rust directly for a lot of the app. I suspect over time we'll slowly transition parts of the app to more native code.

Hi Micah, thanks for the feedback! We had a particularly nasty memory leak for some Mac users about two months ago (likely when you used it) but that's now since been fixed. I appreciate you giving us a try!

Feel free to email me about the quirks at justin at arctype.com and we'll get those fixed for you :) Thanks for using us!
justindeguzman··on Postico: A Modern PostgreSQL Client for the Mac
Postico is amazing! I'm glad to see a new version come out.

The one major thing that's missing is that it doesn't support collaboration features (to share queries, manage access across your team, etc). If you need that functionality and want a more Superhuman/Linear-style modern UI with lots of keyboard shortcuts, I suggest you try Arctype (https://arctype.com). Disclosure: I'm a founder. It supports not just Postgres but also MySQL, SQLite, PlanetScale, Yugabyte, etc.

justindeguzman··on Ask HN: Tools to visualize data in SQL databases?
We're huge fans of TablePlus but Arctype is free (all features) for most developers. We charge a low price for teams/startups above 10 users in a typical SaaS model. TablePlus is a great piece of software but it charges $79 for individuals (one year of updates) to unlock all features such as having multiple tabs. We're also focused a lot more on visualization and collaboration.

You should check out Arctype! (https://arctype.com)

We're trying to re-imagine popular SQL clients (phpMyAdmin, MySQL Workbench) to have the design and software quality of modern tools like Superhuman, Linear, etc. We make it very easy to query and create charts from your database then share it with your team.

We currently support MySQL, Postgres, PlanetScale, Yugabyte, and in the next couple of weeks SQLite and ClickHouse.

justindeguzman··on Ask HN: Would you want to run SQL queries on application data inside SaaS apps?
We're considering building this as a native feature for our new SQL client: arctype.com.

Let me know if you want to jam on this and discuss :)

justindeguzman··on Software Development Trends of the Past Decade
Agreed that user-written isomorphic JS is probably overrated, but sharing libraries and tooling across client/server is definitely a huge productivity booster for the ecosystem.
