justaman··on Ask HN: Does your employer want you to state pronouns in email signature?
I think there is a problem today when people put their sexuality as a cornerstone of their personality. I think its an important aspect of who you are but far from most important. This over emphasis on self identification can create negative feelings about the self if one were to not conform to whats expected.
justaman··on Ask HN: Does your employer want you to state pronouns in email signature?
No and I wouldn't if they asked.

I don't think gender has any bearing on how one performs their job and to promote such a thing could do more harm than good.

When I see someone with their pronouns on twitter I usually don't engage with them. People who do this more often than not tend to make everything about gender politics where it would otherwise be irrelevant.

justaman··on Reddit bans subreddit group “r/DonaldTrump”
I'm generally against the idea of banning subreddits because they just move elsewhere. However, if this is going to be the official stance of Reddit admins, I encourage them to take a look at /r/sino and a few other communities that regularly violate the rules.
justaman··on Ten year study: No link between violent video games and aggressive behavior
And depression. Seriously there is a significant overlap between people who game daily and anxiety/depression/personality disorders.
justaman··on Chinese Demography
>Imagine if we lived in a society where public school didn't exist.

This assumes the market wouldn't self correct and private schools became the norm.

justaman··on Ask HN: What Lived Up to the Hype?
You can't compare the two. Look at each as individuals. They have each changed the game of basketball in their own way. There will never be a single "GOAT". Every generation builds on what the generation prior created. Dr. J -> MJ -> Lebron. All dominate players in their own era that made everyone around them, and after, better players.
justaman··on Record Breaking Number of Journalists Arrested in the U.S. This Year
Wow, downvoted hard just for bringing this information to light. This forum is going downhill and its not because of an "authoritarian" trend in this thread.
justaman··on Record Breaking Number of Journalists Arrested in the U.S. This Year
Several of these cases involved a blogger(or other small syndication) confronting police who were responding to an incident. You don't have to look far to see these encounters on youtube. I'm not justifying the police in these situations, however the "journalists" were doing much more than observing; bordering on obstruction.
justaman··on U.S. Treasury, Commerce Depts. Hacked Through SolarWinds Compromise
It is an act of war. Be suspect of anyone downplaying.
justaman··on An AI Girlfriend Seducing China’s Lonely Men
The west does have anime waifu body pillows, fleshlights, hololive, and a porn addiction.
justaman··on SEO Is Gentrifying the Internet
"Gentrifying" was used to stoke images of class warfare and racial divides. They used the term to get you angry. Using that word is nothing short of propaganda.
justaman··on Reddit is buying TikTok rival Dubsmash
Its a terrible thing to see companies failing to compete or in this case fix their shit then arrive at the conclusion buying up smaller companies will solve their problems. The SV mindset with deep pockets is a problem.
justaman··on US House passes federal cannabis decriminalisation bill
Comments like this add nothing. By this logic, the inverse is also true.
justaman··on Reddit Claims 52M Daily Users, Revealing a Key Figure for Social-Media Platforms
It certainly is a propaganda tool. I don't have concrete proof just yet, but I suspect subs like /r/blackpeopletwitter are being heavily manipulated. Comments deleted en mass and rabid vote manipulation are a regular occurrence.
justaman··on S&P Dow Jones Indices to launch cryptocurrency indexes in 2021
Drugs, the answer is(and was) drugs.
justaman··on How the CCP Does Job Promotions
Here is video of a Chinese ghost city. It was made by a bloggers that were forced to leave the country for fear of their lives.

> At every level, there is total abdication of responsibility. The whole system incentivizes this.

Exactly like the USSR and Chernobyl.

justaman··on Walmart router, others on Amazon, eBay have hidden backdoors to control devices
When will the world realize this for what it is. An act of war in the information age.
justaman··on DEA Pursues Vast Expansion of Patient Surveillance
I don't trust the government. I don't trust the DEA.

I also don't think DEA agents [signed up to punish minorities]. You might be projecting your bias.

justaman··on Nvidia's Arm deal sparks quick backlash in chip industry
I wouldn't expect any government to consider this point before making this decision.
justaman··on Tim Sweeney on Apple and Google
The CCP puts the US/EU is a tricky spot because of their state sponsored corporations. On one hand, they adopt capitalism; on the other, communism. If the CCP can pump a near endless flow of cash into something that will compete with a major corporation elsewhere in the world, is this a bad thing? Would Amazon be a monopoly without Alibaba? Is it reasonable to hold the position that both Alibaba and Amazon should be broken up into small companies? I think so. The CCP certainly will not agree.
justaman··on Thomas Sowell interview
Its so difficult to put forth effort when the basis of their beliefs are rooted in power dynamics and conformity.
justaman··on Thomas Sowell interview
Depends on when this was said. 2015, there was a long list of republicans who didn't like Trump.
justaman··on Bloomberg chief editor: We publish too many mediocre and long enterprise stories
How many people hit up google search for news? Doesn't most news come from social media feeds these days?
justaman··on The end of the Arab world’s oil age is nigh
I feel like this is a solvable problem for solar panels.
justaman··on Twitter is at its best when verified accounts can’t tweet
I've been on twitter almost as long as its been around. I remember when I first got a blue checkmark after I tied my phone number to my account. At some point a few years back, that checkmark was removed. There was some rumors that accounts following certain controversial people had their checkmark removed.
justaman··on U.S. Supreme Court deems half of Oklahoma a Native American reservation
Most reservations are not great places to live. A google search shows there's lots of crime, depression, and poverty. I think these people should realize its difficult to live in relative isolation these days and move forward. Let them keep this land but don't attempt autonomous independence. Pick your source. An oversimplification: white-guilt. You're being downvoted because people assume this comment is racist when I think you're just asking for information.
justaman··on Ask HN: Are YouTube ads getting worse?
Recently ads have been getting through my adblockers or videos fail to load if the ad is blocked. Refreshing the page or adding a '.' to the url seems to fix this.
justaman··on Video Game Industry Rocked by Outpouring of Sexual Misconduct Allegations
There's something to be said about the mental health of employees in the industry. In my personal experience, gamers are not always the healthiest people. Sitting at a desk working all day then going home and sitting at a desk gaming all night. On top of that, these people are put through high stress, cut-throat, deadline driven environments, and you get a recipe for disaster. Now add the fact that people attracted to video games tend to edge on the anti-social.
justaman··on macOS Big Sur Preview
My first thought was how childish it looked. Reminds me of a sanitized children's book somehow.
justaman··on Reddit started banning accounts that voted for content “against their policies”
Can't happen soon enough. The days where forums were the defacto place for discussion were just better. The communities would self-police and alternative opinions weren't suppressed nearly as easily. Reddit is a meme slideshow, not a place for discussion.
