junkbit··on Using the Google Cr-48 for Coding
If you run "Shell In A Box" on the server you can browse to a full bash prompt in a browser tab. It even has Tab-completion and works with ncurses apps too.

You just run a tiny daemon and then connect to it such as https://192.168.1.1:4200

junkbit··on Go compiler now committed to gcc mainline (to be gcc 4.6)
"Release gccgo in gcc is going to introduce a difficulty for Go programmers who use it. The Go language continues to evolve, but gcc 4.6 will not. That means that people using gcc 4.6 will be using a language which will be increasingly out of date. I don’t think there is any way to avoid that problem at this stage. The language will become more stable over time."

Great video. I don't pretend to understand functional languages but the ideas about memory layout and DSLs for r/w of Ethernet frames seemed really elegant.
junkbit··on Britain poised for third phase of industrial revolution
He would have made a better argument by using ARM as an example of developing British IP and licensing it to others to manufacture.
junkbit··on Ubuntu To Ditch X Server For Wayland
Nvidia is really pushing CUDA and OpenCL these days. If you follow the developer conferences the graphics feels like less of a priority to them.
junkbit··on Unity on Wayland
This is great news. I've been following Wayland on Phoronix and I was hoping Google was going to do this when they announced Chrome OS

junkbit··on How to Identify a Programmer's Personality by Just Watching Their Keyboard Moves
Yes I am interested in the work around using the cadence and rhythm of typing a password as an additional ID. Apparently it is quite distinctive, given a long enough sample.

junkbit··on Mark Shuttleworth announces Ubuntu 11.04 will use desktop version Unity
I just installed Unity in Maverick and it now comes preloaded with a workspace button that zooms out like Gnome-Shell to show you 4 desktops.

junkbit··on The End of x86?
The last time I had an architecture issue was with a SNES emulator that had pieces hard coded in 32bit Asm.

Pretty rare these days. Maybe things like VirtualBox too.

junkbit··on The End of x86?
Yes, they don't disable 1 core out of spite, it is because of the difficulty/cost of a high yield

The one thing we are good at is SIGINT.

We may have a stifling bureaucracy and an overstretched military, but at least the British Foreign Office actually has local knowledge and people who speak the language.
