jumping_frog··on We only learnt of our son's online life after he died at 20
Would you say "Our lives have been digitally unbundled" be accurate characterization?
jumping_frog··on The Remarkable Life of Ibelin
Even Spotify. Just saw their short audio clips feed of interesting sections of songs, tracks.
jumping_frog··on Money Buys Happiness, Even If You're Already Rich
Happiness is being able to do what your mind desires i.e. having lot of Freedom. Money unlocks freedom. But tasting too much freedom can be distressing and disorienting. A river dries out if not restricted by banks.(e.g. Britney Spears). So we need exoskeleton of externally imposed restrictions to keep us in shape so that our guts don't fall out. Anxiety is the dizziness of Freedom.

I sometimes think private individuals in America are held to much higher standard than public representatives. Somehow, it is like "all things considered" my party did the right thing under the circumstances but that "all things considered" leniency is not shown to private individuals.

This is also the reason why game industry is very evil. That steady supply of youngsters trying to prove themselves on their teenage profession choice are taken advantage of. If they pivoted to other software domains, I can understand.

I think Nvidia should publicly declare that they will continue to build (even if Meta decides to stop) open llms so that their hardware is sold. Give away the software so that hardware gets sold. Similar to Google gives away Android to OEMs.
jumping_frog··on Bots, so many bots
Pay per impression is a metric adexchanges use. So it is not in best interest of companies to remove bots. Bots create "economic activity" when such metrics are used.

One doesn't even need to use llms. I caught a bot which was cross-pollinating comments from youtube's comment section into reddit when that youtube video was shared on reddit.

How about a totally fake social media populated by llm bots and rake in VC moolah?

Governments can have their "Deep State".

Social Media should have "Surface State" to save the humanity from Deep State. Interconnected group of vigilante people trying to reveal disguised deep state nefarious intentions before those are put into action.

jumping_frog··on If AI seems smarter, it's thanks to smarter human trainers
The problem is my back and forth with Claude is just Claude's data not available to any other. Unlike stack overflow which is fair game for every AI.
jumping_frog··on Amusing Ourselves to Death (2014)
Even if people wake up and "do something", govts will just tire us out. Similar to how online protests against reddit, (or on ground protests like occupy [X], and so on) and others failed. We have no option but to accept what is handed out to us.

I think there was a quote by a Nordic writer (possibly Hans Christian Andersen) in which he talked about how circuses and amusement parks keep people distracted and busy so we don't focus on important policy issues.
