Right on about the ethics, too. Someone who builds their business on a purloined platform can clearly not be trusted in general.

It's not really a sign of reliability how I can't even get their blog to load.... It's been loading the entire time I was writing this and I've only received the page title so far! What's going on over there?
The racism in the comments over at engadget sure is unpleasant. Also, the green screened pictures is certainly doing them a disservice!
Is IE6 really that prevalent still? I don't work on a particularly tech-oriented site, and only about 3.5% of our visitors appear to use IE6.
I don't really know what the difference is between our site and the sites that say they have 65% IE still... it's not at all oriented towards techy type people. We have 45% FF and 15% Safari.
It's a significant enough number of people to test new features with IE6, but not enough to go wild trying to make it perfect. If I was developing sites for clients, I'd go for option #1.
However, I agree that since so many people use Facebook, it's a useful and important place to promote your business and for which to offer services.
It used to be that when we released widgets it was important to test on Blogger, Typepad, etc. but these days more potential users are on Facebook than Blogger. Of course, Facebook makes you jump through hoops to integrate anything with their site, but the large potential audience makes it worth it.
To be honest I think Stack Overflow needs a bit of a redesign. The fonts are all a bit too large, and it's the same on this new site. The size of the font for the questions titles is too large for me to read the titles comfortably.
I'm having issues with Firefox 3.0.15 on Linux, though. It slowed to 5 fps and essentially froze. I'll try Chrome.
It's like calling FreeBSD 'NoNT' or Linux 'NoWindows'. Just because SQL is what people are used to using for persistence doesn't make this a good name for an alternative style.
Indeed, my first idea was indeed to install nginx for images really quick. However, I have no experience with nginx. Thankfully, we had a spare server and I offloaded the images to there for now... Throwing more hardware at the problem usually works.
Most newer ones are fine, too. I installed Ubuntu on my mother's laptop and she's been very happy. Her camera works fine, just plug it in and it works. I've not had any issues installing printers.
They had a GPS device they wanted to use, and that didn't work since the driver is very specific and it's not very common. For most purposes, though, it's quite easy to set up.
There is no legitimate reason for anything other than \w to be in there... how about a real filter? Twitter has been lazy and generally pathetic in just about every area since they began... talk about getting lucky with a good idea.
