julianz··on Google Antigravity TOS: 3rd party usage can get Google account suspended
Speaking from experience here, they don't ban your entire Google account, they block access to Antigravity (and only that, other Google AI services are still available). Pi very briefly supported logging into Antigravity a few months ago, I did so and made a couple of toy queries and then didn't use it again, and my Antigravity access was suspended until a few weeks ago.

The process to get un-suspended was completely byzantine and Google's own support desk wasn't able to do anything. I just kept trying newer versions of Antigravity until it eventually grew the ability to explain what was going on and then let me request access back.

julianz··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
Only some varieties of plum will turn into a prune when you dry them. Many will become a moldy pile of fruit flies instead.
julianz··on DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813
There is only one provider for this model, so shouldn't be running into that.
julianz··on Are AI labs pelicanmaxxing?
I asked Gemini 3.6 Flash for a pūkeko on a unicycle yesterday and the results were very stylish. The thinking notes were cool too, making sure it got all the high points of what it means to be a pūkeko (distinctive swamp hen found in NZ and Australia for anyone not familiar) and then figuring out how the legs would work with the pedals.
julianz··on Cursor 0day: When Full Disclosure Becomes the Only Protection Left
I don't think it does?

   > cd C:\Temp
   > copy "C:\Program Files\Git\bin\git.exe" .\fred.exe
   > fred
fred: The term 'fred' is not recognized as a name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or executable program.
Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.
julianz··on dBase: 1979-2026
My very first paid gig, aged 12, was figuring out how to print mailing labels from a Bondwell CP/M laptop running dBase II. Didn't enjoy it.
julianz··on I won a championship that doesn't exist
Gemini answers with 3 different champions dating back to 2024 and the list of events that the matches were played at. None of the results mention this guy.
julianz··on Used La Marzocco machines are coveted by cafe owners and collectors
What data do you think they're "harvesting"? If they're counting how many shots I pull and judging me by my choice of brew temp, I can live with that. The app adds a lot of convenience and saves having to have some sort of UI or manual control on the machine itself.
julianz··on Used La Marzocco machines are coveted by cafe owners and collectors
250ml brew boiler with a small saturated group, and a separate 1.6L steam boiler. It's definitely aimed at a home environment but will easily keep up with making several drinks in a row. Compared to previous HX machines I've owned, it heats up much quicker and is more stable. I think not having a massive lump of brass like an E61 style machine helps a lot.
julianz··on Used La Marzocco machines are coveted by cafe owners and collectors
La Marzocco Micra is up to temp in under 10 minutes and will stay there all day, it works very well indeed.
julianz··on FSF trying to contact Google about spammer sending 10k+ mails from Gmail account
Yup, same. I'm blocking bc.googleusercontent.com and also firebaseapp.com for now. The reverse DNS should also be able to be used, as the fakey spam domains don't match up with the PTR record, but I want to wait until I can watch the logs for a bit to make sure that works nicely.

e.g.

PTR: 53.220.83.34.bc.googleusercontent.com

HELO: sax.co.uk

julianz··on Archive of BYTE magazine, starting with issue #1 in 1975
There's a great display wall of Byte mag at the Computer Museum of America in Atlanta, they've got original cover artworks and possibly every issue. Loved it. Also more Crays than you've ever seen in one place.
julianz··on Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? My quest to unmask Bitcoin's creator
60? Not even 40.
julianz··on How the Sriracha guys screwed over their supplier
Flying Goose is good, my favourite is Ox brand. It's very punchy, heavy on the garlic.
julianz··on FDA intends to take action against non-FDA-approved GLP-1 drugs
My grandfather was one of the originators of the technology that became CPAP. He did not get rich from it.
julianz··on A Crisis comes to Wordle: Reusing old words
They removed WENCH from the list of upcoming solutions fairly quickly, but forgot to add it back to the list of available words so you couldn't use it as a guess for a little while. It made it back to the list eventually.
julianz··on Two days of oatmeal reduce cholesterol level
Two days isn't long term though.
julianz··on Instabridge has acquired Nova Launcher
I used Nova paid for years, but moved back to the stock Samsung launcher when Nova started having issues with widgets not refreshing (Outlook calendar view was the worst, it would work for a day or two and then just get stuck). I guess I should try something else now.
julianz··on Ozempic is changing the foods Americans buy
Not so much when you consume it along with the fibre which is typically also included in the fruit.
julianz··on Package managers keep using Git as a database, it never works out
The Start menu is not an Electron app. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
julianz··on Advent of Code 2025
Yep, the years I've made it the furthest have been around the 11-12 day mark. The inevitably life and kids and work get in the way and that's it for another year. Changing to a 12 day format is unlikely to affect me at all :)
julianz··on Unofficial Microsoft Teams client for Linux
I don't see this behaviour at all, and I live in Teams on Windows, web and Android. It has improved over time.
julianz··on Affinity Studio now free
I paid for V1, it had incompatibilities with graphics drivers that mean it stopped working properly shortly after V2 came out and is now useless. Any hardware assisted graphics operation corrupts the image. Who knows if V2 will suffer something similar?
julianz··on Hyperflask – Full stack Flask and Htmx framework
300ms of latency to click a checkbox is a horrible experience, though.
julianz··on Environment variables are a legacy mess: Let's dive deep into them
The RSS feed has an attribute that suggests Hugo.
julianz··on Betty Crocker broke recipes by shrinking boxes
This does seem like a very US-centric problem. None of the recipes I was brought up on base their quantities on third party packaging, and generally don't use premixed ingredients. It's very strange.
julianz··on Ubiquiti launches UniFi OS Server for self-hosting
Yep, now that TP-Link have fixed the weird Deco bug where you couldn't forward more than one (non contiguous) port to the same internal machine I'm very happy with them, the wifi coverage is ridiculously good.
