jubbam··on Ask HN: Is brogrammer a sexist term?
Probably not a success from their point of view but from my point of view it's a great ad. It convinced me immediately not to waste any time pursuing the opportunity.

In addition, I can say that the only reason I'd care to know who the stealth company is is so I can avoid giving any thought to working for/with them later on or reading any later (probably toned down) job postings.

jubbam··on Use pythonbrew to manage multiple python installations
This is what was missing from virtualenv (in comparison to RVM). I can't wait to see how it progresses and if somehow this and virtualenv merge at some point.
jubbam··on Ask HN: keeping services up and running?
I second this, supervisord is a pleasure to use, pretty straight forward and quick to get up to speed with how to use it.
jubbam··on England to win World Cup, says JPM quant model
Could it be that just the current stats collected are not enough to matter as much as the stats in baseball? Granted, it may be easier to identify stats that matter in baseball due to the discrete vs. continuous events you mention.

Maybe new stats collected at a later date will matter as much as those collected in baseball... or maybe not.

jubbam··on Boston to Develop 'Innovation District' and Funding Competition for Startups
I agree, getting other firms involved will definitely help the process and could decide it's success or failure. The building(s) in that area alone aren't going to attract startups. The whole package (location, funding, state and local laws) needs to be more attractive.

At least they've announced they're working on it though. This still could go no where, but it's nice to know startups are being talked about at the local government level.

jubbam··on If I Launched a Startup
So does that mean you aren't charging from the start? I'd hate to be collecting money and not have some sort of entity for the company set up.
jubbam··on Google: We May Offer Buzz Independently From Gmail
Maybe Facebook moving into the e-mail area scares Google?

This would put Facebook in the middle of even more conversations/social interactions.

jubbam··on Yes, Websites Cost More Than Fifty Bucks
Websites (crappy ones) could cost $50 initially if all they are is static content or generated in some uniform way without human involvement. They won't be web applications, they won't look novel or unique, but it will be a web site, a meager web presence. Obviously many people don't come in asking for this option, but it is an option. If the client only has $50 they're going to have to lower their expectations.

We can all get together and complain that there shouldn't be $50 web sites but if a client is asking for one and knows what it means then yes, there should be $50 web sites.

These people will not be gone soon. There are many people still starting their online presence, still understanding the online world, and there will continue to be as more and more people are exposed to the ability to connect to the internet.

jubbam··on Experiment: No Comment Scores
Just curious... why author? Why not just content?
jubbam··on Ask HN: The Importance of a co-founder
Anyone have any experience telecommuting as a startup co-founder or is that just adding yet another obstacle to a situation crowded with such obstacles?
jubbam··on New Social Polling Startup
I'm a long time reader/lurker, first time submitter. My friend created a startup and I thought I'd help him out by posting it on Hacker News for some feedback.

His website is called polladium.com and it borrows features from the social aspects of Twitter and the core of Reddit to define social polling. Please take a look and let him know what you think. Comments, suggestions, likes, dislike?
