juanmirocks··on The Long-Term Stock Exchange Comes to Life
Very much looking forward to this idea coming into fruition. The post doesn’t give much information though. I‘d so wished, that a service like Robinhood and this too were available in Europe.
juanmirocks··on High Sierra macOS freezing and stops
My data point: I use my MBP for its hardware and OS (which I find reliable) but nearly all the software I use is from third parties, most significantly Google, which does a much better opinion in this matter IMO. Only notes and reminders get my attention.
juanmirocks··on India’s IT industry laid off more than 56k employees this year
If I read the article correctly, mostly or only the low-level jobs in the industry are laid off. Does this even consider all other low-level personnel like cleaners? That would make the whole story quite different.
juanmirocks··on Warren Buffett: Bitcoin Is Pure FOMO
Doesn’t have to be Bitcoin, and, I assume, Buffet doesn’t mean it either explicitly. Often Bitcoin in many contexts in understood as a synonym of this new digital money.
juanmirocks··on Warren Buffett: Bitcoin Is Pure FOMO
Absolutely, and that’s always the good strategy. Invest only in that what you understand. He doesn’t have to understand tech nor invest in it; his numbers show it. I for one, and I assume many more here, often suffer from the bias that and consider that everything is tech. Wrong.
juanmirocks··on Warren Buffett: Bitcoin Is Pure FOMO
He only invested in it this year, and because, by his own comments, he doesn’t see Apple purely as a tech company any more, but a services one.
juanmirocks··on Warren Buffett: Bitcoin Is Pure FOMO
Answering you here but answering many too. I don’t mean BTC in particular, I mean cryptocurrencies in general. Yes, BTC and ETH currently are suffering slow downs. These both assets and many more will overcome those challenges. The tech is relatively in its infancy.
juanmirocks··on Warren Buffett: Bitcoin Is Pure FOMO
Sending small to large quantities of wealth worldwide quasi instantly and with small fees does have a tremendous value. Ask families of immigrants.

Buffet hasn’t even invested in digital tech stocks. IMO, even after all the huge respect he deserves, he doesn’t get this technology. Other than that, I don’t doubt that many current “investors” are only FOMO movers

juanmirocks··on Gittup, a Linux distro on top of Git
Good idea. Reminds me of hombrew in macOS
juanmirocks··on Ray: A Distributed Framework for Emerging AI Applications
How does this stack against flink or spark or is it trying to solve something else ?
juanmirocks··on Ask HN: What's the best way to recover from burnout?
Food-binge for a weekend or longer to the point of becoming sick, hate yourself and promise you not to ever do it again, ... work for a couple of weeks or months like crazy. Repeat.
juanmirocks··on Shanghai sets population at 25M
I don’t know and so I ask: how much is the Chinese public opinion against pollution affecting if at all the directives of their government? Is there more public concern ?
juanmirocks··on AI Failures in 2017
We as humans can try to make fun of robots and AI as much as we want. However, the list of AI failures will shrink year after year.
juanmirocks··on One-on-one meetings are underrated, whereas group meetings waste time
I’ve barely been in a group meeting that felt productive. The problem is: no body has the responsibility.

Even with friends, one-to-one or maximum 3 friends together is the most efficient way to know the people.

juanmirocks··on Tricks to make yourself effortlessly charming
So you click on it. It worked.
juanmirocks··on Netflix: What Happens When You Press Play?
Agreed and disagreed. Netflix or YouTube prowess is indeed only because they have to push their agenda. Torrents solved that problem already. But torrents indeed did not solve the problem of paying to creators. I am looking forward to new decentralized solutions using Blockchain.
juanmirocks··on Netflix: What Happens When You Press Play?
Popcorn has a better interface than Netflix IMO
juanmirocks··on Netflix: What Happens When You Press Play?
It records your like/dislike, but it doesn’t distribute the change to its database immediately. Same for YouTube or so many other services.
juanmirocks··on Netflix: What Happens When You Press Play?
The recommendations don’t work for me. The media selection by Netflix is not for me yet. Ultimately, I want a service that recommends me only three possibilities, and at least one is a total hit.
juanmirocks··on We Only Have Hours Left to Stop the NSA Expansion Bill
Tough times in the US; too many attacks on rights and liberties at once. I feel for you.
juanmirocks··on Magic Leap One
Agreed. All previous not-really-showing-anything videos were awe inspiring. This website let me: meh.

Either way, looking forward to having a set in my hands/head.

juanmirocks··on Tacotron 2: Generating Human-Like Speech from Text
Yes, just tried to record my voice, but the service didn't finish. Can be a temporal glitch.

The fake voice by Donald Trump is terribly close.

This definitely has a repercussion for fake news and overall trust. We will just not be able to trust what we see (computer-rendered images) or hear (rendered voice).

juanmirocks··on Image text recognition APIs showdown
I would be curious to know if anyone in this community is indeed already using one of these APIs for a product and what your real-life experience is. Care to share your use cases?
juanmirocks··on Tacotron 2: Generating Human-Like Speech from Text
> Being able to re-hire the same actors for future sequels is also not guaranteed.

Wow, it was not in my radar that AI could replace voice actors' jobs, but your comment has opened me to this idea.

To give an example, in Spain (I'm Spanish), in the Simpsons series after several seasons the much beloved voice actor for Homer Simpson died. They had to replace it ofc with another one. Yet, I know that many people in my circle started stopping watching the Simpsons at that time because they couldn't stand the new voice. Regardless of whether the new voice was "worse" or "better", it was certainly different, and we humans get weirded with that.

In light of this, I could see animated pictures with fully AI-rendered voices. Incredible.

juanmirocks··on iPhone Performance Degrades as Battery Ages
This is very enlightened. As a consumer, I personally do not care so much for a modular phone, yet I do pretty much care about maintaining the same level of performance for my current device. Swappable batteries to increase performance is/could be a good selling point for modular phones.
juanmirocks··on iPhone Performance Degrades as Battery Ages
Handy. It didn't log "BatteryHealth" but other Battery infos. Do I miss something?

Stuff that I could see is the battery percentage, example:

``` default 08:44:30.015519 +0100 coreduetd CDDBatteryMonitor: received batterycallback, currentPercentage:94.555824! ```
juanmirocks··on WhatsApp told to stop sharing user data with Facebook by French authorities
Thank you very much for this background information, I was ignorant of it.
juanmirocks··on WhatsApp told to stop sharing user data with Facebook by French authorities
I’m with you that Cash has the benefits of anonymity and no fees. However, it’s also inconvenient, specially when you are traveling. Digital transactions are also faster. — On a side note, that’s why I’m, besides all the hype, a strong believer of cryptocurrencies.
juanmirocks··on WhatsApp told to stop sharing user data with Facebook by French authorities
I live in Munich, Bavaria, and, to give an example, in most restaurants you will not be able to pay with a credit card. Having said that, you can pay once you reach a minimum amount with what they call an "EC-Karte", a sort of debit card.
juanmirocks··on WhatsApp told to stop sharing user data with Facebook by French authorities
No. You are not misunderstanding me. You are right that there are several European countries with a well spread normalization of using credit cards. In the European countries that I've spent most of my life, and which are also some of the biggest ones (Germany, France, Spain) have still IMO a poor acceptance of credit cards. -- In contrast, for example, in London you can pretty much live without cash whatsoever.
