jtsiskin··on Room temperature, ambient pressure superconductivity – this time for real?
You could also achieve this with 30 random sine waves of different amplitude and frequencies.

You could find patterns like “when wave B intersects wave K, there’s a global pandemic within 5 years”!

Lambda uses the money from NVIDIA to buy NVIDIA cards = NVIDIA gets equity for 70% off

jtsiskin··on Programming languages going above and beyond
It’s not just [] - it’s any amount of leading 0s.

But this is exactly the point - if you forgot about proving `ToBytes(FromBytes(bs)) == bs`, forgot about this edge case, and later tried to prove a function that implicitly relied on that fact - Dafny would let you know!

This would be way clearer as a Cartesian plot with the output of random as X, and sample number as Y.

jtsiskin··on Tile adds undetectable anti-theft mode with $1M fine if used for stalking
If they’re just making things up, why not make it a $1 billion fine? That would be 1000x more deterrent!

Gun manufacturers should start adding this to their TOS. $1M fine if used to illegally commit murder.

jtsiskin··on Sam Altman: “$30k to get a simple iPhone app created, $300 for a plumbing job”
Most comments in this thread seems to be completely missing the point.

Imagine instead, three years ago, before ChatGPT and Dall-E, he tweeted something like:

“”” 2019: $30,000 to (produce real game assets out of my programmer art sketches)|(write a well researched biography)|(animate a short film)|(narrate my documentary), $300 for a plumbing job.

i wonder what those relative prices will look like in 2028! “””

We’re not there yet, but already it’s pretty clear the prices of the former will decrease dramatically, to the point it takes a similar amount of human effort, training, skill, and experience as the plumbing job - then perhaps get even easier!

It is interesting to think why most other comments try to pick apart the original tweet instead

jtsiskin··on Spotify is first music streaming service to surpass 200M paid subscribers
A huge percent of the premium users likely started as free accounts, or heard about Spotify from someone with a free account, etc. It also gives more bargaining power, listener data, mind share.

Even if they lost money per free account, it’s worth it.

jtsiskin··on Hyperview: Native mobile apps, as easy as creating a website
No, this isn’t shipping native code dynamically, just content. Crudely, will the fetched bytes go into executable or non-executable memory? If non-executable, Google/Apple are usually lax
jtsiskin··on “Fun disabled by administrator” (2015)
The attached commit:

https://codereview.chromium.org/977323003

is bad - because it gives an error message stating the owner has disabled the dinosaur game, but gates the game just based on whether the device is enrolled. The owner has not explicitly disabled the game, nor has any way to reenable it, as the message suggests; google has.
