jtreanor··on Wire open-sourced
This is usually because the default scroll position of a conversation is at the bottom rather than the top so it significantly simplifies scrolling logic (which can get pretty complex).

I am surprised they are using a table view rather than a collection view for this though.

jtreanor··on Writing a Big App in Swift
I think it's fair to say storyboards haven't improved much since then, although it's a fairly divisive topic.

Personally I still very much fall on the side of not using storyboards for non-trivial UI.

jtreanor··on Dear open-source maintainers, a letter from GitLab
Just bought the app from these recommendations. It is beautifully made. Nice work :)
jtreanor··on Setting up iOS continuous delivery with Jenkins and Fastlane
We use two Mac Minis with Teamcity at my current job and it works great.

Every once in a while I VNC in and update Xcode/OS X. That has never been an issue.

jtreanor··on Implementing a Sticky Input Field in iOS
Interesting work, thanks for sharing.

The input field is subview of the keyboard’s window. This is likely undesirable, especially for chat applications.
I am curious as to why this is undesirable. It makes sense to me that something docked to the keyboard would be in the same window.
jtreanor··on Is the web dead?
It seems the crap HTML is intentional. From a comment in the html:

<!-- And you can even code like it's 1995 and modern browsers will eat that HTML up for breakfast! High five Costanza. ...
jtreanor··on 37 percent of adults cannot swim the length of a 25-yard pool
I had the exact same experience while taking swimming lessons as a young child in the west of Ireland. The instructor just chucked me in. She still works there.

I didn't swim for years afterwards but eventually went back to lessons when I was around 12. Strangely enough, I now love the sea. I am an avid surfer and scuba diver.

jtreanor··on Popcorn Time is back
Popcorn Time previously just showed open domain films in the screen shots. The new one has pictures Game of Thrones and company. It looks like they have stopped pretending this is not for piracy.

edit: clarification

jtreanor··on Show HN: We've open-sourced our bootstrapped startup, ShareLaTeX
This is really great. Thank you! What made you decide to open source it?
jtreanor··on Show HN: It's Popcorn Time - Stream movies using node-webkit and backbone
Ah I see. A very polished looking app all the same. But most certainly shady as far as legality is concerned.
jtreanor··on Show HN: It's Popcorn Time - Stream movies using node-webkit and backbone
What is this? There doesn't seem to be an explanation. Perhaps an aggregator for streaming services? Or just an easy way to pirate films?

jtreanor··on Pixate Engine Now Free
This changes things quite a bit. I recently started a new project and decided on NUI (https://github.com/tombenner/nui) over Pixate. I have been very impressed by it so far. Does anyone have experience with both? How do they compare?
jtreanor··on Kim Dotcom's New Mega Encrypted Cloud Storage
"“Each file will be kept with at least two different hosters, [in] at least two different locations," said Dotcom." from http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/01/building-mega-ars...
jtreanor··on Kim Dotcom's New Mega Encrypted Cloud Storage
Mega's launch site (http://kim.com/mega/) appears to be down. It does seem to be getting lots of attention.
