jtdev··on If the Lab-Leak Theory Is Right, What’s Next?
What’s next!? Maybe we should stop fiddling with viruses in countries that struggle with basic quality control for even the most basic manufacturing?!

Why is the left so uninterested in finding the truth here? This “if it came from a lab, what next” narrative is complete gaslighting.

jtdev··on If the Lab-Leak Theory Is Right, What’s Next?
The media didn’t ask for proof of animal origin… in fact the media largely ran with animal origin with zero evidence to back that up.

There’s always been more evidence to support the lab leak theory for those paying attention.

jtdev··on Amazon acquires MGM for $8.5B
I suppose Bezos and co. will use MGM to push their cultural and political narrative much like they have done with WaPo... I'm fully on the boycott Amazon program at this point, having previously been a Prime member and heavy user of Amazon/AWS/WaPo/etc.
jtdev··on Temptation of the Apple: Dolphin on macOS M1
Why should I care? It works beautifully… I have zero concern for what rendering engine Firefox on iPad uses.
jtdev··on How Intuitive Are Macs Really?
You know what’s really unintuitive? Finding an official solution to a basic problem in Windows that requires a reg-edit… the number of times I encountered this while working daily with Windows was astounding. Never have I encountered an equivalent scenario on MacOS.
jtdev··on Microsoft has turned the Surface Duo into a handheld Xbox
Microsoft seems to have Rube Goldberg DNA.
jtdev··on Temptation of the Apple: Dolphin on macOS M1
I run Firefox on iPad with zero problems…
jtdev··on Temptation of the Apple: Dolphin on macOS M1
I quite appreciate Apple’s software and general corporate decisions. Can you tell me about a better software/hardware vendor out there?
jtdev··on 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Are you proposing that we turn roads over to foot and equine traffic only?

The air was co-opted by planes... should we turn that back over to avian only traffic?

jtdev··on 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Elitist cyclists??
jtdev··on 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Almost every major American city is also a shipping port, freight train depot, major freight airport hub, etc., etc., manufacturing is still a thing (in fact domestic manufacturing is on the rise in the last decade). Good luck feeding, clothing, sheltering, etc. the millions of inhabitants in American cities without roads that accommodate large trucks and people who do real work.
jtdev··on 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Roads are made for large dangerous machines that move fast and can hurt you.
jtdev··on 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Does being hit by a 6500 lb vehicle as a cyclist or pedestrian really differ materially from being hit by a 7500 lb vehicle...?

Constantly telling people that existing on earth as a human is bad for x, y, z is a good strategy if you want people to tune out and stop paying attention to what you're saying.

jtdev··on Ask HN: Favorite purchases of last two years?
I received a Griswold cast iron skillet from my grandmother, who received it from her mother (my great grandmother) many years ago. True heirloom, I cook with it nearly every day and it still looks and performs beautifully.
jtdev··on My Resignation from Freenode
It would be great if the author could elaborate on what exactly they take issue with about the alleged "Trumpian wannabe korean royalty bitcoins millionaire".
jtdev··on Forced Entrepreneurs
This report seems to reinforce a notion that I've had for quite some time: The latest tech entrepreneur hype cycle is churning out very enthusiastic, hopeful/jr. entrepreneurs who have nearly nothing to offer in terms of vision, product, service, technical ability, etc.

Being an "entrepreneur" is a means to and end, not and end in and of itself.

It’s difficult to feel sorry for big media when they put forth so little effort…

LOL:

“Tech audit of Colonial Pipeline found ‘glaring’ problems”

jtdev··on DarkSide ransomware gang quits after servers, Bitcoin stash seized
I would wager a foolish sum that Colonial had a complete shit security posture and had many opportunities to improve but chose to accept this risk at the executive level. I have zero sympathy for Colonial.
jtdev··on Pentagon surveilling Americans without a warrant, Senator Wyden reveals
I think U.S. based developers need to create something akin to the CCC in Germany to combat the clear abuse of privacy that many developers are now engaging in on a daily basis.

https://www.ccc.de/en/club

I know... the CCC has been the target of infiltration and compromise in various ways throughout history, but that's a reality of standing up to abusive power.

jtdev··on Pentagon surveilling Americans without a warrant, Senator Wyden reveals
Uhhhh... Obama doubled down on this bullshit.
jtdev··on Pentagon surveilling Americans without a warrant, Senator Wyden reveals
This sounds like the definition of flimflam with a splash of gaslighting...

flimflam: deceptive nonsense

jtdev··on Vue 3 drops IE11 support plan
Great… thanks Microsoft…
jtdev··on Flask 2.0
> “do I want a production Python deployment and all the headaches of deploying, managing, scaling, etc. that come with it?”

What “headaches” have you encountered with Python/Flask in relation to deploying, managing, scaling? Specifically, what headaches have you encountered that are not present in every platform/language? Are you a NodeJS dev?

jtdev··on Bob Dylan lays down what killed rock n roll (2016)
Thomas Sowell is anything but a racist… take off the blinders.
jtdev··on Bob Dylan lays down what killed rock n roll (2016)
Because culture has been weaponized against minorities:

“The poverty rate among black married couples has been in single digits ever since 1994. You would never learn that from most of the media. Similarly if you look at those blacks that have gone on to college or finished college, the incarceration rate is some tiny fraction of what it is among those blacks who have dropped out of high school. So it’s not being black; it’s a way of life. Unfortunately, the way of life is being celebrated not only in rap music, but among the intelligentsia, is a way of life that leads to a lot of very big problems for most people.” - Thomas Sowell

jtdev··on Beyond Meat’s Beyond Burger life cycle assessment (2018)
Simple answer: No, this stuff is not good for you… get ready to shit your pants if you consume this lab goo on a regular basis.
jtdev··on Doctors investigate mystery brain disease in Canada
No, I'm referring to the regulatory capture and revolving door culture at USDA that has allowed Monsanto et. al., to douse your kids cereal with glyphosate, refuse hemp production in the U.S., water down the Organic Governance Board with corporate shills, etc., etc.
jtdev··on Doctors investigate mystery brain disease in Canada
Considering the history of the USDA, I’m not okay with the USDA having final say in determining what I or my family put on the dinner table.
