jtardie··on Can we stop with the maps? Or do something better?
There certainly is a better way!

http://mapbox.com/ http://leaflet.cloudmade.com/

Both have been gaining quite a bit of traction lately. Certainly worth checking out I think.

Regarding comprehension, maps seem to be efficient. Not sure of any ways that intuitively make as much sense as a well made map.

Just finished reading Csikzentmihaly's 'Creativity', which follows in the same vein.

Did my best to pull out the good parts on github if anyone's interested...

jtardie··on Household debt is holding back the US economy
The Fed keeping interests rates as low as they have punishes savers. Can't put all the blame on households for that.
jtardie··on Python Koans: Learn Python by making tests pass
Going through it now.
jtardie··on Ask HN: Should I get a master's degree or a job?
I was in the same situation 3 years ago.

In short, I'm happy I chose a job. Granted, I was lucky to get one that is doing work I consider meaningful. But having that job has made it much more clear to me what I'd like to do in the future. The MS I'd apply to now is dramatically different than the one I'd have applied to before having the experience. Which is a good thing I think.

jtardie··on Ask HN: What (technical) skills would you recommend to your younger self?
It's too easy to lose yourself in gaming/browsing. I was aware that I was passionate about the web long before I decided to 'learn' it.
jtardie··on Ask HN: What (technical) skills would you recommend to your younger self?
Self-awareness, financial intelligence, and confidence in doing the things you enjoy will always get you far.

Aside from that, I'd love to be further ahead with geospatial python and statistics than where I am now.

jtardie··on Ask HN: what are some good resources to understand economics?
Personally, I really like Austrians.

Mises.org is a good place to start in that regard.

jtardie··on Ask HN: I'm looking for a self-managing bookmarking service
try pinboard.in, it's great.

Maybe a little different than what you were asking for but I think you'll like it.

jtardie··on Ask HN: Where to find good icon sets?
I think Helveticons is a popular set. Otherwise, I'm not quite sure.
