jsk2600··on Atlassian enables default data collection to train AI
I've used JIRA back in 2009 and that is exactly what we did to work around shitty search function in JIRA.
jsk2600··on Atlassian enables default data collection to train AI
Atlassian made self-hosting 'less easier' on purpose. They even discontinued their on-prem products.

I thought it is reverse of EL CARO (”expensive” in Spanish)

jsk2600··on Creators of Tailwind laid off 75% of their engineering team
>Just sharing that the root cause is most developers don’t want to pick up an additional syntax when they already have the fundamentals

IF they already have the fundamentals. What I see is that more and more developers don't know CSS at all or very little; they only use Tailwind and haven’t worked with CSS extensively before.

jsk2600··on Pop_OS 24.04 LTS with COSMIC desktop environment
You do not need to have GNOME in order to run GTK apps - Pop_OS ships with GTK/QT libraries so all apps works as on Ubuntu.
jsk2600··on Pop_OS 24.04 LTS with COSMIC desktop environment
It's based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, with their own DE
jsk2600··on Ask HN: Is 13" MacBook good enough without an external monitor?
I worked on the same setup for 2 years while travelling a lot. You can get used to it, as long as you don't start connecting it to an external screen, then you'll find 13'' just small.

Consider purchasing an external portable screen to attach to the MacBook while on the go.

This is the guy who is 'browsing' web using wget+email afterall:

> For personal reasons, I do not browse the web from my computer. (I also have not net connection much of the time.) To look at page I send mail to a demon which runs wget and mails the page back to me. It is very efficient use of my time, but it is slow in real time.

Mostly tiling WMs and terminals
jsk2600··on Poll HN: What operating system do you primarily develop on?
You can just use apps on fullscreen with no tiling, that's how I use Omarchy most of the time.
jsk2600··on Poll HN: What operating system do you primarily develop on?
Windows options should be Windows (no WSL) or Windows (+WSL)

jsk2600··on Waiting 100 years for a home isn't a housing crisis, it's a moral collapse
Czechia. Also, it's very inconsistent depending on local governance. Even Microsoft bailed out their data center project near Prague for this (and other) reasons...
jsk2600··on Waiting 100 years for a home isn't a housing crisis, it's a moral collapse
>I would love to see very basic, small, apartments created by governments on a mass level

As someone living in a country where it can take five or more years to get approval to build a new house and 10+ for commercial buildings due to the government bureaucracy, I'm scared by the idea of getting the government more involved. The key issue is that the government makes it very hard to build -> less housing -> expensive housing.

jsk2600··on The Industrialization of IT
>I'm pretty sure a team of two or three senior developers with great domain knowledge would be competitive with a team of 10 average devs.

You are comparing senior vs average devs here. What will happen if a team of 'two or three senior devs' with AI/ML tools compete with equally skilled 10 senior devs with AI/ML tools?

jsk2600··on The Industrialization of IT
OCRs are quite different from AI/ML, which the parent comment is referring to. In fact, OCR existed way before the current AI wave.
jsk2600··on Google is winning on every AI front
On deleting chats, I accidentally discovered that AI Studio creates a 'Google AI Studio' folder on your Google Drive with all the links to chats. If you delete the 'link' from there, it will disappear in AI Studio...interesting UX :-)
jsk2600··on Plain – a web framework for building products with Python

jsk2600··on Bye, Prime
You own the stuff you purchased; that's the best thing about the Basecamp.
jsk2600··on Bye, Prime
You may want to consider one-time (full price) and optional annual renewal fees (a fraction of the full price, depending on the value/upgrades delivered in the new version). It's then up to the customer to pay an annual fee to get updates or stay on the old version (which may be a pain to support...).

Basically, what you mentioned—' I don't want to pay a full price' and 'try the full functionality out without paying the full price'—are the primary drivers behind customers' preference for a subscription-based model.
