jshb··on Cloudflare Network Performance Issues
Tried to go to some usual places where people discuss outages and met with outage. Ouch.
jshb··on Chrome Is Scanning Files on Your Computer
As far as I could tell as a non Chrome user, Chrome Cleanup Tool is a separate download from Chrome. Chrome may prompt to install it under some circumstances. However, what's described in the article does not appear to be a functionality that exists in normal Chrome installation.
jshb··on Tesla crash victim had complained about auto-pilot in same location
There is zero reason for not using the autopilot at the location based on Tesla's own explanation.
jshb··on Testing Cliqz in Firefox
Ask toolbar lives again, this time in Firefox.
jshb··on Add Amazon root certificates
What's the problem? It seems totally fine to me, but I'm no English native.
jshb··on Sourceforge Hijacks the Nmap Sourceforge Account
Why would they care about something that had 150 downloads since 2014? Seems like it may just have expired due to inactivity on the account.
jshb··on Quantifying the Effects of Firefox’s Tracking Protection (2014)
It appears to me like it's a ludimentary, stripped down version of uBlock/AdBlockPlus that blocks predefined domains. I don't know why that should be compiled in the browser rather than being an add-on even if it speed up some websites by 44%.
jshb··on A Look at Backblaze’s Toshiba Hard Drives
Didn't you brag about taking out HDD out of external drives to use in your DC? But now you are saying you can't even put a label on a drive?
jshb··on Bup – towards the perfect backup
Can this new tool do incremental realtime disk image backup like Acronis True Image?
jshb··on What if mega-rich people could buy places on clinical trials?
So what happened to the 2 million pounds?
jshb··on Microsoft Band
>-The whole thing is projected as health device and makes me feel that it's designed for fitness nuts. This is going to severely limit the audience and very bad marketing strategy.

Yeah, designing product to specific target audience didn't work out so well for GoPro I'm sure.

jshb··on The People Behind the Wayback Machine
What's the difference between these folks and the Pirate Bay?
jshb··on TrueCrypt suggesting migration to BitLocker?
Perhaps the TC devs were ticked off that this audit kickstarter/indiegogo has netted so much money none of which goes to the devs. And this is their way of not playing along with the whole shenanigan.
jshb··on Eudora Goes Open Source
Seems to be it's just Thunderbird with UI tweaks. I would've preferred the original Eudora codebase from the 90's. Didn't even know they ditched it.
jshb··on What is 1e100.net?
Why do Google continue to aquire IP4 adresses other than 66.0.0.0/8 they already own but do not appear to be using much at all. Do they even have legitimate purpose for assignment of 66.0.0.0/8 under ARIN justfification?
jshb··on What Designers Can Learn from Target’s Checkout Form
That would be no problem I'm sure assuming English was the only language I need to display on my browser. Unfortunately I don't fit into that profile.
jshb··on What Designers Can Learn from Target’s Checkout Form
I wonder if they did a study into what percentage of their users have font smoothing turned off, because their HTML text everywhere site looks horrendous on my PC with font smoothing off. It's especially ugly when you can easily see where they are using graphic text on a few select spots.
jshb··on Google Makes Web Pages Load Instantly
Google wants to DDOS eHow and ExpertExchange?
jshb··on Google Makes Web Pages Load Instantly
I could care little about privacy concern, but I would rather wait a couple of seconds than waste bandwidth downloading pages that I would most likely never look at. Also from web developer point of view, I would like to see how any given site loads under standard use case anyway.
jshb··on Wikipedia deleting Programming Language articles again
Go, too. But they run the show so who cares. Golang manages to show up as 3rd result on Google for term go. On bing, it's 37th.
jshb··on Apple iCloud
The service is intended to turn ripped songs from already purchased CDs. It doesn't magically turn illegally downloaded music to legal ownership even if Apple's service can't/won't enforce the difference. It's still gray.

The bottom line: No one cares about music any more. It's worth less than $25/year.

jshb··on Cool, but obscure Unix tools
Why does cat need the ability to add line numbers anyway? It seems outside the scope of it's purpose. Next it'll need ability to translate Russian to English.

If I ever needed line numbering, I would output into a file and open it in a far more capable text editor/viewer that was designed for doing that well.
