jsferrei··on Ask HN: What is the most exciting development in your field right now?
I was talking to a friend in medicine about this recently. Is total automation actually required right now? As others have said, I'm sure politics is a big chunk of why that hasn't happened yet. What if we had tools to help radiologists identify where they should focus their attention in a particular image, and even give them some hinting specific to the contents of that particular image. It would not only save time, but have the added benefit of helping stave off errors caused by fatigue.

jsferrei··on The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 awarded to Bob Dylan
In general, I'd have to say no, but artists like Dylan operate on a totally separate level. This is well deserved.

Very true. It took 8 years for Craig Mello and Andrew Fire to be awarded for RNAi (published 1998, awarded 2006 -- and that was considered fast). CRISPR as a gene engineering tool isn't even that old yet, so we've got a few years.

Total disaster. But it is possible to promote business growth without loaning $75 million out to a guy with no previous business experience (never mind technology company experience), right?
