jsbaby608··on Cross-national CCTV footage shows intervention is the norm in public conflicts
This is exactly my point. Because guns are banned, they need to have cameras everywhere to reduce crime, which seems to be working.

I feel like I can't even have a regular conversation on HN, if it`s against groupthink, without being down voted to death.

It`s sad that a seemingly intellectual group has to be so close-minded.

jsbaby608··on Cross-national CCTV footage shows intervention is the norm in public conflicts
My theory is that because guns are banned in the UK, the only real way to reduce crime is to have cameras everywhere.
jsbaby608··on [dead]
I see just as much far-left propaganda..but everyone just accepts it as fact.
jsbaby608··on Ask HN: Is it still possible to earn a living with an ad-supported blog?
It's better to use a blog to promote your own product. You can make a living with ads, but you will need an order of magnitude increase in traffic, which isn't easy.
jsbaby608··on The power of SSH tunneling. How it can make your developer life easier
I regularly forward mysql ports over ssh, so they don't need to be exposed to a public IP address.
jsbaby608··on 'A grand experiment': how 'shrooms made Denver America's most drug-friendly city
Legalizing MJ never got rid of the illegal market. I can remember arguing with so many people here on HN before it was legalized in CA and CO.

Last I heard, the illegal market is booming in california and putting legal businesses under because they can undercut the prices. Mostly because they don't have to follow any regulations or pay taxes.

Which also brings up the fact that the state is not getting the tax money it should.

I feel like proponents want legal drugs with no regulations or taxes...which will never happen.

jsbaby608··on Taiwan Passes Law Allowing Same-Sex Marriage–A First for Asia
Something I've been noticing about the reporting of this is that many news outlets are referring to Taiwan as the "country of Taiwan".
jsbaby608··on [dead]
How is it a "myth"? She committed welfare fraud and was convicted as a result. The dollar amount is also accurate.
jsbaby608··on China’s new ‘social credit system’ turns Orwell’s ‘1984’ into reality
You get denied from jobs, school, and are essentially outcast from society because of your low score and then sent to a re-education camp because your score is too low and likely to commit a crime.

After destroying a person's livlihood, friends, and family...why wouldn't they resort to crime? It will most likely be the only way to survive.

jsbaby608··on Blue-collar workers who become white-collar later in life
maybe you don't see what I'm talking about because you don't live it?

American culture hasn't been 'backwards' for many years. Instead, we are living in a clown world where white men are openly disriminated against because they somehow deserve it and even questioning it is somehow considered racist or sexist.

The latest wage research from google showed us that men are actually being paid less than women. Where is the outcry? The protests??

I've seen so many companies advertise their "diversity" by showing us entire teams of all women. Real diversity there!!

Yet, there are people still convinced the US is a sexist and racist country. Want to see real racism? Go anywhere in Asia to get a job, where a headshot is required and you will be told flat-out that they won't hire you because you are fat, a woman, muslim.

I want a world where race and gender don't matter...instead of being the only thing that matters and racism/sexism of any kind, even if you are a white male, is not acceptable.

jsbaby608··on Blue-collar workers who become white-collar later in life
Your thoughts about minorities and women in positions of power are about 2 decades out of date.

I've worked at many companies, big and small, in many states, and I never saw anything you described.

What I do see is that when a woman is in power, other women try to take that woman down a peg. Men are respectful and now have to walk on eggshells because if you even breathe the wrong way, it can be construed as some form of harassment.

Disagreeing (even if you have facts to back your argument) is called 'mansplaining'.

jsbaby608··on Blue-collar workers who become white-collar later in life
Find remote work. I've been working remotely for over a decade, because I felt an office confining and I missed being able to go outside.

With no commute, I also use that extra time to spend with my family.

I have my own office and many times work outside in the summer. I've even traveled to other states/countries and worked from there. You just need a good Internet connection.

It does take a lot of discipline. I basically have no manager now after proving that I can get my work done without being watched.

I've seen lots of remote developers come and go because they couldn't handle working remotely without someone sitting over their shoulder/telling them what to do.

jsbaby608··on Facebook bans Israeli company it says aims to disrupt elections
Facebook itself is disrupting the US elections by banning right-leaning activists. They are also banning misuse of their data if they suspect Trump might be using it it to win in 2020.

Who is going to moderate the moderators?

jsbaby608··on Facebook sues analytics firm Rankwave over data misuse
Obama misused Facebook data during the 2008 election. He was lauded as a tech genius and I saw countless articles about how this was the future of politics.

The only reason Facebook is even bothering to go after these companies is because they don't want to be responsible for re-electing Trump.

It's the same reason they just banned multiple right-leaning influencers from their platform.

It's scary to think what kind of stuff politicans will get away with when they align with FBs politics.

All you need to do is lean left..and you can get away with murder.

jsbaby608··on Why Europeans Don’t Get Huge Medical Bills
The WHO list is heavily biased toward quantity of care (IE: socialized) and not quality. So, it's not really a good judge of the best quality.

If 10x Americans are getting surgery overseas because it's cheaper, this doesn't mean it's better. Our disussion is about the best quality, not on price.

Show me the studies where government-run care saves money, yet has the exact same quality as US care.

Judging outcomes and life expectancy is a red herring, because different populations have different diets, lifestyles, and genetics, which definitely leads to different outcomes.

If are sacrificing quality for cheaper care...no thanks.

I also see my mention of Surgery by committee is ignored in your comments. I'm assuming this means you know this is true. Why would I want this?

jsbaby608··on Entrepreneurship Isn't Cool
it's mostly a slog that hopefully will make some money after a couple of years.

I've known a few people that wanted to start a business and thought they just needed to come up with a few good ideas, find someone else to do the work, and collect the money.

They wanted to partner with me and essentially be my boss/manager instead of a partner. They all ended up getting jobs, while I'm on my second successful business.

So many people are in love with the idea of a business, but won't be able to follow it to success when things get to tough or they need to actually put the work in.

Very few people have the discipline to start and run a business.

jsbaby608··on Why Europeans Don’t Get Huge Medical Bills
government-run care doesn't work well for major surgery. As I said earlier, decisions are made by commitee and many people don't get the care they need.

Health insurance, like the student financial aid situation in the US, has created a situation where the true costs are inflated because the hospitals know that the average person isn't footing the bill, the billion dollar insurance company is. It's why you see $80 bills for asparin.

Your rainbows and flowers ideas about healthcare sound great in theory, but the reality is that the middleman is creating these balooning and insustainable costs. Government-run care just replaces this middleman with the government and doesn't do anything to reduce the cost or make the care better for anyone.

The US has the best quality care in the world. It's why everyone with the means comes over to the US to get treated for major illnesses. Upending the systen to make it like all of the other, worse, systems in the world isn't thr answer.

jsbaby608··on Princeton Looks to Break Up the White Male Money Monopoly
How is this not blatent discriminaton? They are only choosing donors based on gender and race.

This doesn't really set a good example when we are trying to get away from this backwards thinking.

jsbaby608··on Why Europeans Don’t Get Huge Medical Bills
European care is good when you're young and healthy. When you're old and need urgent surgery, it many times goes before a committee and can take many more months or even years to get approved.

I want private care with no insurance. Costs will go down to managable levels and we can still have help for people that can't afford to pay it.

jsbaby608··on Tech workers organize protest against Palantir on the GitHub coding platform
If these families are here ilegally and breaking the law, I see no problem.

It's strange to me to see people push for many government-run programs and at the same time push for no borders, which will over burden and destroy said government programs.

jsbaby608··on What I gained, lost and learned while working for Microsoft
This last part confuses me. She admits she lacks in technical experience. Why would she ever work on the VSCode team?

She also mentions that many people at the company didn't respect her position in the beginning. I wouldn't either. Shes paid to party and network and doesn't seem to have any of the technical knowlege to work at a very technical company.

jsbaby608··on Ask HN: Remote opportunities that don't require an insane costly signal?
Is what you are asking is to have challenging remote work, without being a senior developer? If so, it's going to be difficult.

Most companies aren't going to give you challenging work, unless you have the experience to handle it. This is happens even more with remote work, because you will be unsupervised for long periods of time.

jsbaby608··on Journalism's dependence on part-time freelancers
He said 'as needed'. Which I assume is a handful of hours/month.
jsbaby608··on Facebook admits huge scale of fake news and election interference
Banning people like Alex Jones and Paul Joseph Watson IS election interference.

It's really strange to me that it's supposed to be about banning hate speech, yet only right-leaning people are banned.

Logic dictates that there is hate speech on the left, but I don't see it getting banned at the same rate.

jsbaby608··on Paying for Open Source Contributions
You are correct. But, the biggest projects we all use (apache, linux, php, etc) all have many paid maintainers through large companies.

If these people weren't paid, I don't think we would have any of the quality software we see today.

jsbaby608··on 'Passengers are afraid of this airplane': How Boeing is handling 737 Max problem
They will rebrand and eventually everyone will forget about it.
jsbaby608··on Facebook teams with rightwing Daily Caller in factchecking program
This is a good move. I also don't consider tucker carlson 'far right'.
jsbaby608··on If I Sleep for an Hour, 30 People Will Die (2016)
Family separation started under Obama and the rise in hate crimes is a false narrative. Violence has actually decreased over the past decade. Journalists are only covering specific cases because it pushes the idea that Trump=bad.

The vietnamese that got deported also committed crimes. He didn't deport everyone, which isn't really that bad.

Again, he hasn't really done much of anything and is mostly a lame duck president.

jsbaby608··on If I Sleep for an Hour, 30 People Will Die (2016)
What 'terrible' things have happened with Trump? Im in the us and it's business as usual.
