jrhizor··on Three sites made 215,128 “best software” pages for AI. Perplexity cites them
There are a lot of ways to make this a lot better easily. First of all, they could use a blacklist of sites that sell guest posts on adsy/etc.Also, if an article only links to one of the products listed, or only one is a dofollow link, they should also be excluded.

That'd probably cut down on a huge portion of spam by itself.

jrhizor··on Running Kimi K3 on a M1 Max
Super cool, and I appreciate the upfront speed disclaimer
jrhizor··on Guide to data tools landscape for developers
Really a great layout of the space! I like how it doesn’t try to enumerate all options.
jrhizor··on Show HN: StackScope – I crawled over 40k indie launches to see what they ship
This was interesting to look at for my own launch https://stackscope.dev/launch/xisjc21x/elmo

I'm a little surprised you can't see the analysis for StackScope itself!

Also, it'd be interesting to see the trend of vibe score over time.

jrhizor··on Walking slower? Your ears, not your knees, might be the problem
This style of clickbait headline feels very out of place on HN
jrhizor··on Audiophiles can't distinguish audio sent through copper, banana or mud
I'd recommend AudioScienceReview for anyone looking for measurements-based evaluations of audio equipment instead of the weird and wrongly incentivized audio review ecosystem.

jrhizor··on Timeline for Selling a Micro-SaaS
It's really hard to estimate the amount of time. Even spending 40hr on it wouldn't be worth it from a purely financial perspective even if you ignore ads and other costs, and I spent many times that in terms of time.

But at the same time, doing this helped me reach over $6k MRR this year. Could I have gotten out of the tar pit faster? Definitely.

jrhizor··on Timeline for Selling a Micro-SaaS
I think micro-SaaS is starting to catch on https://www.google.com/search?q=micro-saas
jrhizor··on Ask HN: How are you acquiring your first hundred users?
For https://poach.vc/ and https://data.poach.vc/ I just emailed and LinkedIn DM-ed a ton of people. Since the newsletter features founders and investors, I also tag them each issue on Twitter, which is a small but evergreen source of exposure.
jrhizor··on Launch HN: Double (YC W24) – Index Investing with 0% Expense Ratios
Yeah, it's a really tough sell.
jrhizor··on Never Missing the Train Again
That's really great! So many nice touches, like how it shows the side of the street and the overall direction of transit!
jrhizor··on Bots, so many bots
You mean the "following" tab, right?
jrhizor··on Tech, Crunched: How the go-to site for startup news lost its way
It looks like Michael Arrington agrees https://x.com/arrington/status/1812902866899902857
jrhizor··on Show HN: I created an After Effects alternative
It went viral on Twitter this weekend, which is probably why more people are noticing it now.
jrhizor··on Building a Waitlist (The Wrong Way)
That’s why I found the search volume interesting. It seemed like there was more overlap between developers and photography tools than I thought.
jrhizor··on Building a Waitlist (The Wrong Way)
Yeah, this is what I was thinking.
jrhizor··on Building a Waitlist (The Wrong Way)
Most of what I read actually referenced 20% as an average for paid waitlists if there’s a fast enough turnaround behind a release. Here’s one example:

https://www.lennysnewsletter.com/p/what-is-good-waitlist-con...

Obviously not without proper diligence!

jrhizor··on Building a Waitlist (The Wrong Way)
I didn’t think that photographers had the cash, I thought that developers handling photos in some way had cash. Such as the various AI photo generator sites that might want to homogenize the style of images they create for ads, headshots, etc.

For actual photographers, they’re probably manipulating all of the photos on their own computers with Desktop software.

Photoshop’s pricing for this is 15 cents per image which is prohibitively expensive for nearly any image generation use case.

That’s actually the type of tool I was playing around with implementing when I came across this as an issue I wanted to solve for myself.

jrhizor··on Amazon ditches 'just walk out' checkouts at its grocery stores
In robotics this was called a "wizard of oz" approach. Where when you pull back the curtain it's much less impressive than it seems on the surface.
jrhizor··on Show HN: I built an open-source data copy tool called ingestr
I like the idea of encoding complex connector configs into URIs!
jrhizor··on Ask HN: What have you built with LLMs?
https://www.mealbymeal.com

It's macro + calorie tracking over text message. You just text what you eat and it matches against a food database to estimate your food intake. It's basically an easier alternative to MyFitnessPal.

My stack is OpenAI on Azure, Vercel, Convoy, FatSecret API, Postmark, NextJS.

jrhizor··on Launch HN: Dashdive (YC W23) – Track your cloud costs precisely
How does this compare to Ternary?
jrhizor··on Show HN: Elelem – TypeScript LLMs with tracing, retries, and type safety
I've had a bit of trouble getting function calling to work with cases that aren't just extracting some data from the input. The format is correct but it was harder to get the correct data if it wasn't a simple extraction.

Hopefully OpenAI and others will offer something like https://github.com/guidance-ai/guidance at some point to guarantee overall output structure.

Failed validations will retry, but from what I've seen JSONSchema + generated JSON examples are decently reliable in practice for gpt-3.5-turbo and extremely reliable on gpt-4.

jrhizor··on Show HN: Serverless VPN, pay as you go, unlimited devices, no subscriptions
seems very expensive
jrhizor··on News Minimalist – Only significant news
Would getting a summary from ChatGPT with a prompt to eliminate clickbait/bias be helpful before evaluating the event?
jrhizor··on Kanopy – Stream films with your public library or university card
I recently started using Kanopy. They have many great movies that aren't available on other paid streaming plans.
jrhizor··on The deck we used to raise our seed funding
Some of our sources are written from scratch, some are wrappers directly over Singer, and others are wrappers over forks of Singer taps that we've updated/improved. All of our destinations right now do not depend on Singer.

The high level strategy of orchestrating sources/destinations is similar although configuration, state management, source/destination installation/isolation, normalizing data, etc. are quite different.

jrhizor··on Iyashikei: Japan’s Genre of “Healing Games” (2018)
This reminds me of Cloud, a 2005 game that let you arrange clouds in the sky to solve puzzles. It was very relaxing to play.
