I learn something new everyday. For a learning experience we launched a new site using only HTML5. That was a fun learning experience, but it wasn't a really hard problem. And yes, it is part of our core mission.
Another example is how our company is always looking at new technologies. The concepts can be challenging and fun to learn for a developer. A couple of the more recent ones we've used are MongoDB, Node.js, PhoneGap... I'm sure there's more. Oh, right... we're building our first Rails 3 site. Now that's fun!
I want to hire people that have genuine passion for what they do. If they're passionate about my company, that's just icing on the cake.
I expect that they'll move on. I want it to be on good terms.
True engineers will always want to learn more. My goal is to provide an environment for a massive amount of learning.
But, can this attitude be said for lots of cities?

Technologists wanted. Web/Mobile engineers needed to help build out future properties. iPhone, Android knowledge is a big plus, as is optimization skills. (aka Page Speed nerds) Technologies include jQuery, HTML 5, CakePHP, Rails 3.
Mid to senior level is ideal, but the right entry level person will be considered. There's always more to learn.
Our app servers (on Slicehost) were getting hammered yesterday, so I issue a resize (1GB -> 2GB). After about 20 minutes it gets to about 97% and then stalls. In a panic I log into the server and kill all the apache2 instances. I look at the Slicehost console again and it says 40%. It actually started over. By the time it actually restarted with the resized slice it was over an hour later. The traffic was already gone by the time the resize finished.
it was a pretty fun project for MTV. they launched a show about it called Head and Body... After a quick googling it seems the show never took off.
